Mesenterial histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis. Case report.

A 14-year-old girl was hospitalized with fever, jaundice, vomiting and right sided abdominal pain. A laparotomy was performed because of muscular defence and ascites. There was a mass of enlarged red and blue colored lymph nodes in the mesentery of the lower ileum loop. The histologic diagnosis of HNL without granulocytic infiltration was made. A septic-toxic shock developed after surgery. Respiratory insufficiency necessitated the use of a respirator, and acute renal failure with oliguria made hemodialysis necessary. The dramatic clinical course of the illness and the localization of the affe

Acute neutrophilic dermatosis with diffuse histiocytic lymphoma.

We report an elderly man with acute neutrophilic dermatosis (AND) associated with a diffuse histiocytic lymphoma. This cutaneous marker of internal malignancy is usually associated with myeloproliferative disorders. To our knowledge this case is the first linkage of AND with this type of lymphoma.

Histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis without granulocytic infiltration.

About 50 cases of histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis without granulocytic infiltration were published till now. The authors describe the case of a 19-year-old patient with the right ear and the right ring finger bitten by squirrel about 40-50 days before the appearance of an axillary homolateral painful lymphadenomegaly and fever. Histopathologic examination of excised lymph nodes showed areas of necrosis, necrobiosis and nodular histiocytosis. Histiocytes were dystrophic or showed evidence of macrophagy. Problems referring to morphogenesis and etiology are discussed.

[Association of hepatosplenic schistosomiasis mansoni and histiocytic lymphoma].

A case of one patient with hepatosplenic Schistosomiasis mansoni in association with histiocytic lymphoma is presented. The authors discuss the concomitance of the two pathologic processes, by comparing with other cases of the literature and speculating about its significance, there is the possibility of the schistosomiasis being related as the causing factor of the malignant disease.

Reticulum cell sarcoma (histiocytic lymphoma) of the orbit.

The clinical and pathologic features of 13 patients with biopsy-proven reticulum cell sarcoma of the orbit are reviewed. All of the patients were adults, in contrast to many previous reports that have emphasized how common this tumor is in children. Eight patients presented with proptosis and without prior diagnosis of lymphoma, and 5 patients developed orbital deposits in the course of a known systemic lymphoma. Of the 8 patients whose orbital biopsies established the diagnosis, 4 were found concomitantly to have other sites of disease, and 4 patients developed other evidence of lymphoma from

Mixed histiocytic sarcoma in a Bernese Mountain Dog.

An 8-y-old, spayed female Bernese Mountain Dog was presented to a referral center for evaluation of right thoracic limb lameness and previously suspected Evans syndrome that had been poorly responsive to immunosuppressive therapy. Based on review of examination findings and laboratory data, Evans syndrome was deemed unlikely and hemophagocytic histiocytic sarcoma (HHS) was strongly suspected. On blood smear evaluation, atypical, histiocytic cells were noted, some of which exhibited siderophagia. Considering that circulating cells are not typically observed in dogs with HHS, additional diagnost

Histiocytic sarcoma of the suprasellar region: illustrative case.

BACKGROUND: Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare malignant tumor of histiocytic origin, both morphologically and immunohistologically. Herein, the authors report the case of a suprasellar tumor confirmed as HS after craniotomy, which presented a diagnostic challenge. OBSERVATIONS: A 58-year-old man presented with panhypopituitarism. To protect the patient's visual function and obtain a diagnosis, craniotomy was performed for tumor removal. Based on the immunohistological staining results, the tumor tested positive for both CD68 and CD163 and negative for CD1a, CD21, and MP0. Hence, the patient

Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis and Other Histiocytic Lesions.

BACKGROUND: Histiocytoses, including Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH), comprise a diverse group of histiocytic disorders characterized by the abnormal accumulation and proliferation of histiocytes in various tissues or organs throughout the body, ranging from benign, self-limited conditions to aggressive malignancies and systemic inflammatory syndromes. These lesions present unique diagnostic challenges due to their broad spectrum of clinical presentations, overlapping histopathological and immunophenotypical features, and genetic complexity. METHODS: This review analyzes major histiocytic…

Systemic histiocytic disorder in a jaguar (Panthera onca).

A 7-year-old captive female jaguar (Panthera onca) was presented with a 7-day history of dyspnoea and weight loss. Clinical examination reve … grey areas in the lungs. Histological examination revealed neoplastic proliferation of pleomorphic histiocytes arranged in cohesive sheets in the lungs, liver, spleen, kidneys and lymph nodes. Neoplastic cells had intense immunolabelling for vimentin and ionized calcium-binding adaptor molecule 1, and were immunonegative for pancytokeratin, E-cadherin, CD20, …

Histiocytic Sarcoma: Challenging Course, Dismal Outcome.

Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare hematopoietic neoplasm derived from non-Langerhans histiocytic cells of the monocyte/macrophage system. With an incidence of 0.17/million individuals and a slight male preference, HS presents with a wide age distribution. Most commonly, it occurs as a primary malignancy. In approximately 25% of the cases a presumed transdifferentiation of a preexisting hematolymphoid disorder can be demonstrated. The clinical presentation varies from a localized solitary mass to severe disseminated disease often with extranodal involvement including skin, soft tissue, the gas

Disseminated mucocutaneous trichosporonosis in a patient with histiocytic sarcoma.

Trichosporon asahii is the causal agent of trichosporonosis. Patients with immunosuppression or hematological malignancies are at higher risk of infection. Skin and mucosal involvement appear as fast-growing papulonodular lesions and necrotic ulcers. Internal organ dissemination is lethal. Therapeutic success depends on the underlying disease. Here, the authors present the first case of disseminated mucocutaneous trichosporonosis in a patient with a post-mortem diagnosis of histiocytic sarcoma, a rare and aggressive haematolymphoid neoplasm. Regretfully, death occurred despite treatment with l
