Comparison of the Effect of Two Different Doses of Labetalol to Induce Controlled Hypotension on Hemodynamic Changes During Spinal Fusion Surgery.

BACKGROUND: Spinal fusion surgery is often associated with heavy bleeding. Labetalol is one of the most effective drugs used to control bleeding in surgery. OBJECTIVES: Here, we measured the effect of two therapeutic doses of labetalol on the amount of bleeding. METHODS: This is a randomized clinical trial that was performed in 2020-2021 in Al-Zahra hospital in Isfahan, Iran, on patients that were candidates for posterior spinal fusion surgery under general anesthesia. A total number of 64 patients were entered and randomized into two groups, one receiving labetalol at the dose of 2 mg/min a

Optimal Infusion Rate of Norepinephrine for Prevention of Spinal Hypotension for Cesarean Delivery: A Randomized Controlled Trial, Using Up-Down Sequential Allocation.

BACKGROUND: Norepinephrine has recently been suggested to be as effective as phenylephrine for the prevention of hypotension after spinal anesthesia for cesarean delivery. Moreover, compared to phenylephrine, norepinephrine may be superior in maintaining heart rate (HR) and consequently, cardiac output (CO). A recent study demonstrated that norepinephrine given as a single intravenous bolus is approximately 13 times more potent than phenylephrine. However, it is uncertain whether this finding can be applied when these vasopressors are administered as infusions. Therefore, the optimum infusion

Comparison of Intermittent Intravenous Boluses of Phenylephrine and Norepinephrine to Prevent and Treat Spinal-Induced Hypotension in Cesarean Deliveries: Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Phenylephrine (PE) is currently the vasopressor of choice to prevent and treat spinal-induced hypotension at cesarean delivery (CD). However, its use is often associated with reflex bradycardia. Norepinephrine (NE) has been put forward as an alternative vasopressor during CD due to its ability to treat hypotension while maintaining heart rate (HR). Recent studies have focused on the role of NE used as an infusion with favorable results compared to PE. No studies have compared equipotent bolus doses of PE and NE at CD. We hypothesized that when used in equipotent doses as an intermi
