Serum granulocyte binding IgG, IgM, and the light chain composition of granulocyte binding immunoglobulins were measured in 58 adult subjects, including 8 normal individuals, 6 with Felty syndrome, 6 with chronic idiopathic neutropenia, 32 with B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), and 6 with multiple myeloma. An abnormal kappa/lambda ratio of granulocyte binding immunoglobulins was detected in 12 of 32 patients with CLL. We examined 245 patients with chronic rhinosinusitis not responding to prolonged antibiotic treatment and tested each patient for humoral antibody deficiencies. BACKGROUND: The hyper immunoglobulin M syndrome (HIM) associated with congenital rubella infection (rHIM) is an extremely rare disorder, where patients have elevated serum IgM in association with reduced IgG and IgA. We have previously shown that in contrast to X-linked HIM (XHIM), a patient with well-characterised rHIM is able to express functional CD40 ligand, undergo immunoglobulin isotype switching and to generate memory B cells. Common variable immunodeficiency (CVID) is a heterogeneous group of immunodeficiency syndromes that involves defective production of specific antibodies and decreased serum concentrations of > or =1 immunoglobulin isotype. We describe a patient with an atypical case of CVID who had extensive granulomatous lesions that were partially attributable to mycobacterial infection. In the peripheral blood, there was a massive increase in the number of double-negative CD3+ T cells that expressed the gammadelta T cell receptor.

Two monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) of the immunoglobulin G2A isotype, reacting with a Nocardia-specific 54-kDa antigen, were generated. As determined by Western blot (immunoblot), both MAbs reacted only with the 54-kDa band. As determined by indirect immunofluorescence or enzyme immunoassay with whole microorganisms, the MAbs did not react with Nocardia cells. One of the MAbs showed weak cross-reactivity with mycobacterial antigens, while the other showed no cross-reactivity.

We describe the immunologic and virologic impact of monkeypox (mpox) infection in a woman with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) whose plasma HIV viremia was suppressed by clinically effective antiretroviral therapy. This study was designed to investigate the longevity of maternally-acquired specific antibody (Ab) isotypes in piglets born to sows with Taenia solium cysticercosis. In a newly developed mouse model of Staphylococcus aureus arthritis the kinetics of joint destruction and serological manifestations as well as the clinical course of arthritis and osteitis were studied.
