[Inoperative ultrasound tomography in surgery of the bile ducts].

Intra-operative ultrasonic tomography has proved to be superior to cholangiography for a number of aspects, including avoidance of both contrast media and radiation exposure as well as increase in potential information due to possible checkup of surrounding regions (gall bladder, liver, pancreas). Accurate coverage of prepapillary area and the papilla proper is somewhat difficult with this method. Bile duct stones were recorded from nine of 52 patients examined by both methods. Concrement stayed undetected by ultrasound in one case and sludge in another. Nevertheless, the assumption is made th

Attachment anxiety moderates the relationship between childhood maltreatment and attention bias for emotion in adults.

Research indicates that some individuals who were maltreated in childhood demonstrate biases in social information processing. However, the mechanisms through which these biases develop remain unclear-one possible mechanism is via attachment-related processes. Childhood maltreatment increases risk for insecure attachment. The internal working models of self and others associated with insecure attachment may impact the processing of socially relevant information, particularly emotion conveyed in facial expressions. We investigated associations among child abuse, attachment anxiety and avoidance

[Pre-hospital care management of acute spinal cord injury].

Acute injury to the spine and spinal cord can occur both in isolation as also in the context of multiple injuries. Whereas a few decades ago, the cause of paraplegia was almost exclusively traumatic, the ratio of traumatic to non-traumatic causes in Germany is currently almost equivalent. In acute treatment of spinal cord injury, restoration and maintenance of vital functions, selective control of circulation parameters, and avoidance of positioning or transport-related additional damage are in the foreground. This article provides information on the guideline for emergency treatment of patien

Don't sit so close to me: unconsciously elicited affect automatically provokes social avoidance.

Behavior may be automatically prompted by cues in our social environment. Previous research has focused on cognitive explanations for such effects. Here we hypothesize that affective processes are susceptible to similar automatic influences. We propose that exposure to groups stereotyped as dangerous or violent may provoke an anxiety response and, thus, a tendency to move away. In the present experiment, we subliminally exposed participants to images of such a group, and found that they displayed greater avoidance in a subsequent interaction. Critically, this effect was explained by their incr

Idiopathic osteonecrosis of the hip during pregnancy: outcome in a subsequent gestation.

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic osteonecrosis of the hip is a serious complication of pregnancy, but there is little information available regarding its recurrence in a subsequent gestation. CASE: A woman with a history of pregnancy-related osteonecrosis, successfully treated with conservative therapy, presented for preconceptual counseling. Because a literature search uncovered only one applicable case, the patient was managed empirically. Her subsequent pregnancy was uneventful with no recurrence. CONCLUSION: Although idiopathic osteonecrosis of the hip during pregnancy is uncommon, it is important

Factors that influence USAF trainee pilot mental healthcare seeking and health information disclosure: A qualitative assessment.

United States Air Force (USAF) trainee pilots must meet medical standards to maintain flying status. Fear of losing flying status may contribute to healthcare avoidance. This qualitative study examined factors influencing mental healthcare seeking and health information disclosure among USAF trainee pilots. Sixteen interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using thematic content analysis, achieving acceptable data saturation. Most participants were male, aged 22-41 years. Four participants were enrolled in Pilot Instructor Training, while the remaining participants were early-career pi

Neural Correlates of Emotional Memory Biases in Adult Attachment: An Event-Related Potential Study.

Attachment-related defences are theorized to systematically distort emotional information processing, yet the temporal dynamics of these biases remain poorly understood. The present study elucidated the neurophysiological mechanisms underlying implicit and explicit memory biases in attachment anxiety and avoidance using event-related potentials (ERPs). University students completed both implicit and explicit memory tasks involving attachment-relevant stimuli (threat and positive). Behavioural data revealed a double dissociation; the anxious group exhibited heightened memory sensitivity to thre

A Control Method for Transtibial Prostheses with Bilateral Leg Data.

Micro-controlled lower limb prosthetic devices typically employ onboard sensors on the amputated side of the user's body to generate control patterns. However, balanced ambulation in a healthy subject requires synchronized neural control to facilitate appropriate positioning and orientation of both limbs. Building upon this idea, this study introduces a control architecture that utilizes information acquired from both limbs using only two inertial measurement units (one placed on the left shank, and one placed on the right thigh) to generate the control commands for a transtibial prosthesis pr

Reversible antepartum fetal distress.

Information generated from the various tests of fetal well-being must be interpreted correctly to avoid unnecessary intervention for assumed fetal distress. This applies to both the intrapartum and antenatal period. The presence of normal data (e.g., reassuring fetal heart rate tracing) allows the woman to continue confidently with the pregnancy or labor course. When the information is nonreassuring, the cause of the abnormal data should be identified and corrected. Position change and discontinuation of pitocin are examples of common intrapartum actions. In the antepartum period, a compromise

A Memristor-Based Saturation-Constrained Information Capacity Framework for Temporal Information Processing.

Physical reservoir computing (PRC) has emerged as a highly energy-efficient paradigm for processing high-dimensional spatiotemporal data in edge-intelligent systems. However, the deployment of PRC is often limited by the quantization mismatch between continuous input signals and the finite dynamic range of hardware substrates. Conventional binary time-multiplexing ensures high noise immunity but necessitates protracted pulse sequences that induce high latency and premature physical saturation. Conversely, multi-valued analog encoding enhances information density but frequently induces state ov

Auditory processing control by the medial prefrontal cortex: A review of the rodent functional organisation.

Afferent inputs from the cochlea transmit auditory information to the central nervous system, where information is processed and passed up the hierarchy, ending in the auditory cortex. Through these brain pathways, spectral and temporal features of sounds are processed and sent to the cortex for perception. There are also many mechanisms in place for modulation of these inputs, with a major source of modulation being based in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC). Neurons of the rodent mPFC receive input from the auditory cortex and other regions such as thalamus, hippocampus and basal forebrain

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The main aims of fragrances are to create pleasing scents or to mask unpleasant odors. We hereby review their main exposure sources, presumed benefits, and unwanted effects, with special attention to allergic contact dermatitis (prevalence, regulatory environment, risk assessment methodology, and preventive measures). RECENT FINDINGS: Fragrances elicit positive emotions and presumably have therapeutic benefits related to stress reduction and memory enhancement. However, they also cause detrimental health or environmental effects including contact dermatitis (irritant and/or

Impact of Online Information on Self-Isolation Intention During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Cross-Sectional Study.

BACKGROUND: During the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, governments issued movement restrictions and placed areas into quarantine to combat the spread of the disease. In addition, individuals were encouraged to adopt personal health measures such as social isolation. Information regarding the disease and recommended avoidance measures were distributed through a variety of channels including social media, news websites, and emails. Previous research suggests that the vast amount of available information can be confusing, potentially resulting in overconcern and information overload. OB

The Role of Social Media Use in Peer Bullying Victimization and Onset of Anxiety Among Indonesian Elementary School Children.

Objectives: This study explored a multidimensional model of the relationships between social media use, gender, peer bullying victimization experiences, and the onset of anxiety symptoms among children. We hypothesized that greater experience of bullying would be associated with greater onset of anxiety. We also expected that gender and social media use (specifically Instagram and YouTube) would be linked with anxiety among elementary school children. To test this hypothesis, a structural equation modeling approach was used. Methods: A total of 456 elementary children aged 11-13 years from nin

Identity disruption, fear of progression, and avoidance in postoperative adaptation following vestibular schwannoma surgery in China: An interpretative phenomenological analysis.

BACKGROUND: Vestibular schwannoma is a benign intracranial tumour with a generally favourable prognosis. However, many patients continue to experience persistent postoperative symptoms, functional limitations, and long-term medical follow-up after surgery. These experiences extend beyond physical recovery and may affect patients' sense of self, social roles, and everyday life. Limited research has examined how patients experience and make sense of these changes during long-term postoperative adaptation. OBJECTIVE: To explore how Chinese patients experience, interpret, and cope with bodily cha
