Two cases of telangiectatic hamartoma of the iris and ciliary body are reported, one of them with its histopathological study. No previous cases have been found, as such, in the current literature. The most important descriptions of primary vascular lesions of the iris and ciliary body are briefly reviewed.

Intranuclear cytoplasmic inclusions have been described previously in both human and animal tissue. So far as we are aware they are described in detail for the first time in this paper in 60 cases of malignant melanoma of the iris, usually in spindle cells. The light microscopic appearances are described, and electron microscopic studies of selected cases show clearly the genesis of these inclusions by cytoplasmic invagination of the nuclear membrane. A large, inferior-sector melanoma occupying about one-fifth of the iris area in a 65-year-old white man is described. Pigmented lesions of the iris (freckles, nevi, and benign and malignant melanomas) and their signs are reviewed. The iris lesion shows signs of being both malignant and benign. Periodic monitoring of the defect is being continued.

We studied by light and electron microscopy the diffuse iris nevus of an eye in a 16-year-old patient with oculodermal melanocytosis and choroidal malignant melanoma. Four patients had pigmented lesions in the anterior uveal tract and choroid which presented clinically as malignant melanomas. All the lesions were successfully removed by local excision. Histopathological studies showed the tumours to be melanocytomas, indicating that enucleation or irradiation would have been contraindicated. BACKGROUND: Intraocular smooth muscle tumors have long been a subject of controversy. The advent of immunohistochemistry with antibodies against HMB-45, S-100, smooth muscle actin, desmin, and vimentin has helped greatly in the distinction between smooth muscle tumors and melanocytic lesions.
METHODS: Twenty-seven archival tissue blocks from patients who had had intraocular leiomyomas or leiomyosarcomas diagnosed were located and fresh sections cut and stained for the above markers. The cases constituted 24 iris lesions and 3 ciliary body lesions.

4 cases with intraocular metastases of primary skin melanoma are described. In 2 patients the diagnose could be confirmed by histological examination of the primary skin tumor and the involved eye. The poor prognosis of patients suffering from melanotic intraocular metastases indicates only a palliative ophthalmological treatment.

PURPOSE: Novel plaques are used to treat iris melanoma at the Mayo Clinic Rochester. The plaques are a modification of the Collaborative Ocular Melanoma Study (COMS) 22 mm plaque design with a gold alloy backing, outer lip, and silicone polymer insert. This case report describes the findings in a 10-year-old goat with metastasis of an adenocarcinoma in the iris. Two weeks before admission, the owner had noticed blepharospasm of the left eye. The clinical and pathological findings of 37 feline ocular melanomas are described. The majority of the tumors examined were diffuse iris-ciliary body melanomas of epithelioid and pleomorphic (anaplastic) cell type with numerous mitotic figures. The majority of the tumors showed invasion of the anterior sclera. Metastases were found in three cases predominantly in the abdominal viscera (liver). The clinical diagnostics as well as the differential diagnosis, therapy and prognosis of feline uveal melanoma are presented. The causal pathogenesis is discussed comparatively.
