Impairment of adrenal function is a great hazard to patients undergoing major operation. The most important adrenal steroids are glucocorticoids (hydrocortisone), 17-ketosteroids, mineralo-corticoids (aldosterone), and small amounts of estrogen and progesterone. Urinary output of 17-hydroxycorticoids reflects overall adrenal cortical activity. Under severe stress this output increases greatly. OBJECTIVES: To report one case of precocious puberty in a 6-year-old boy with bilateral cryptorchidism.

A 16-year-old girl became progressively virilized from 13 to 16 years of age. A case of malignant interstitial cell tumor of the testis is reported and the literature is reviewed. Malignant interstitial cell tumors occur exclusively in adults. Gynecomastia was noted in 12% of the cases. Elevated plasma levels or increased urinary excretion of estrogen, 17-ketosteroid, or testosterone were demonstrated in 64% of the patients. Vessel invasion, which occurred in 74% of the patients, appears to be the only reliable histologic feature for predicting malignant behavior. Thirteen anovulatory oligomenorrheic, hyperandrogenic, and normoprolactinemic women were treated with spironolactone (aldactone) throughout six consecutive menstrual cycles in a dosage of 100 to 150 mg/day. In a statistical study the somatic and psychic variables of 42 unselected women were evaluated who were seen with the presenting symptom of hirsutismus at a medical out-patient department.
