Dysbiosis of oral microbiota and its association with salivary immunological biomarkers in autoimmune liver disease.

The gut microbiota has recently been recognized to play a role in the pathogenesis of autoimmune liver disease (AILD), mainly primary biliar … related with the levels of IL-1β, IL-8 and immunoglobulin A in saliva and the relative abundance of Lactobacillales in feces. Dysbiosis of the oral microbiota is associated with inflammatory responses and reflects changes in the gut microbiota of patients with AILD. Dysbiosis may play an important role in the pathogenesis of AILD.

Lactic acid bacteria bacteriocins as novel antimicrobials against antibiotic-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae in opthalamic infections.

BACKGROUND: Ophthalmic infections, including conjunctivitis and keratitis, caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae may lead to significant ocular morbidity. Rising antibiotic resistance among ocular pathogens has reduced the efficacy of conventional treatments highlighting the need for alternative antimicrobial strategies. This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial potential of bacteriocins produced by lactic acid bacteria (LAB) against antibiotic-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae isolated from clinical ophthalmic samples and to compare their efficacy with conventional antibiotics. METHODS: A

Screening of lactic acid bacteria from the milk of Sahiwal cows and characterization of their probiotic potential for preventing bovine mastitis.

Antibiotic therapy has been the most popular line of treatment for the control of mastitis worldwide during the last few decades. Alternative and sustainable treatments must be developed because pathogens are becoming more resistant to antibiotics, leading to the development and spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The aim of the current investigation was to isolate lactic acid bacteria (LAB) with probiotic potential that can inhibit mastitis-causing pathogens to prevent bovine mastitis. Milk samples were collected from Sahiwal cows, and a total of 150 bacteria were isolated, of which 76

Listeria monocytogenes in aquatic food products: Spotlight on epidemiological information, bio-based mitigation strategies and predictive approaches.

Listeria monocytogenes is the foodborne pathogen responsible for listeriosis in humans. Its ability to grow at refrigeration temperatures, particularly in products that support its growth and have a long-refrigerated shelf-life, poses a significant health risk, especially for vulnerable consumer groups such as pregnant women and immunocompromised individuals. A comprehensive analysis of L. monocytogenes in aquatic food products (AFPs) was conducted, examining the prevalence of the bacterium, the associated outbreaks, and the resulting deaths. Data from 66 studies, comprising a total of 19,373

Isolation of New Strains of Lactic Acid Bacteria from the Vaginal Microbiome of Postmenopausal Women and their Probiotic Characteristics.

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB), traditionally consumed as fermented foods, are now being applied to the medical field beyond health-functional food as probiotics. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously discover and evaluate new strains with suitable probiotic characteristics, mainly focusing on safety. In this study, we isolated eight new strains from postmenopausal vaginal fluid using culturomics approaches, an emerging area of interest. Data showed that most strains possessed significant cell surface hydrophobicity (≥ 76%), auto-aggregation capacity (17 to 61%), strong adhesion activity (8 t

Microbial carcinogenesis: Lactic acid bacteria in gastric cancer.

While Helicobacter pylori is a fundamental risk factor, gastric cancer (GC) aetiology involves combined effects of microbial (both H. pylori and non-H. pylori), host and environmental factors. Significant differences exist between the gastric microbiome of those with gastritis, intestinal metaplasia and GC, suggesting that dysbiosis in the stomach is dynamic and correlates with progression to GC. Most notably, a consistent increase in abundance of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) has been observed in GC patients including Streptococcus, Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium and Lactococcus. This review sum
