BACKGROUND: Tuberous sclerosis, an autosomal dominant neurocutaneous syndrome seen in approximately 1 in 6,000 people worldwide, is characterized by the appearance of hamartomas in multiple organs. The classic clinical triad consists of angiofibromas, epilepsy, and developmental delay. Dermatologic disorder is one of the main characteristics. Angiofibromas, a common form of presentation, causes significant cosmetic and medical problems. The current treatment for skin lesions is laser therapy. The carbon dioxide (CO2) laser has been used satisfactorily in treating these lesions, but several stu

The fluorescence quenching of laser dye namely 4,4(‴)-Bis (2-butyloctyl-oxy)-p-quaterphenyl [BIBUQ] by carbon tetrachloride has been studied in different solvent mixtures of 1-4 dioxane (DN) and acetonitrile (AN) at room temperature. The quenching is found to be appreciable and a positive deviation from linearity was observed in the Stern-Volmer plot in all the solvent mixtures. Various parameters for the quenching process have been determined by sphere of action static quenching model and finite sink approximation model. The magnitudes of these rate parameters indicate that positive deviation

Hypertrophic scars are common and cause functional and psychologic morbidity. The conventional pulsed dye laser (585 nm) has been shown previously to be effective in the treatment of a variety of traumatic and surgical scars, with improvement in scar texture, color, and pliability, with minimal side effects. This prospective study was performed to determine the effectiveness of the long-pulsed dye laser (595 nm) with cryogen-spray cooling device in the treatment of hypertrophic scars. Fifteen Asian patients with 22 hypertrophic scars were treated by the long-pulsed dye laser (595 nm) with cryo

A technique embodying the use of chemical agents and the argon laser was developed in the 1981-1982 that provides for a more complete removal of tattoo dye with one treatment. The number of visits for the laser treatment to the patient is reduced to two or three treatment sessions, compared to five to eight visits previously required. The area of "chemo-laser" approximated the normal skin without hypertrophic scar tissue more than the areas of multiple or heavy laser treatment.

595-nm pulsed dye laser and fractional CO2 laser have been demonstrated effective to treat hypertrophic scar. The underlying mechanism may involve transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGFβ1) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), but remains to be clarified. Our study was performed to investigate how 595-nm pulsed dye laser combined with fractional CO2 laser treats hypertrophic scars in a rabbit model through regulating the expression of TGFβ1 and PCNA. Twenty-four New Zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into control group, pulsed dye laser group, fractional CO2 laser group, and p

BACKGROUND: Port-wine stain (PWS) is a disfiguring vascular anomaly characterized by persistent cutaneous erythema and progressive tissue hyperplasia. Although pulsed dye laser (PDL) is the first-line treatment and alleviates certain clinical manifestations, incomplete lesion clearance and high recurrence rates persist in some patients, posing significant therapeutic challenges.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of sequential therapy with a 755 nm picosecond laser (PSL) combined with 595 nm PDL versus 595 nm PDL alone in treating PWS.
METHODS: Thirty-four patients with PWS were

BACKGROUND: The development of scars presents a common clinical concern in the management of cleft lip patients. Both 595-nm pulsed dye laser (PDL) and CO2 fractional laser are effective treatment options; however, comparative studies between these two modalities are lacking. This study is to evaluate and compare the clinical efficacy of 595-nm PDL versus CO2 fractional laser in the treatment of post-cleft lip scars.
METHODS: A total of 34 patients with postoperative cleft lip scars were enrolled between May 2023 and July 2025. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either 595-nm PDL

BACKGROUND: Acne vulgaris is a common inflammatory disease associated with various sequelae after skin lesion remission. Acne erythema has been considered simple erythema or a vascular lesion; however, because the understanding of this disease has improved, acne erythema is currently considered an early scar with erythematous components.
AIMS: This study evaluated the efficacy of using both a 595-nm pulsed dye laser (PDL) and 1565-nm nonablative fractional laser (NAFL) for the treatment of erythematous scars caused by acne.
METHODS: Ninety patients with acne scars were equally randomized to

BACKGROUND: Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL) is the treatment of choice of Port Wine Stains (PWS). Laser Doppler Imaging (LDI) has been used to evaluate the effectiveness of this treatment. In a previous study, we demonstrated that LDI allows an objective evaluation. The purpose of this study is to investigate if reducing the delay between two laser sessions could improve the clinical outcome.
METHOD: This prospective study was conducted from September 2015 to November 2017. Three Laser sessions were performed every month in twenty patients with PWS. The PWS response was assessed by LDI after each sess

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Pulsed Dye Laser (PDL) is currently the gold standard treatment for port wine stains (PWS), although the degree of lesion blanching is variable and often unpredictable. This appears to be due to reformation and reperfusion of blood vessels. Rapamycin has shown potential as an antiangiogenic agent and may prevent the revascularization after PDL treatment. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of adjuvant use of (commercially available) topical rapamycin after PDL treatment in patients with PWS.
