Complications of thulium fiber laser lithotripsy: a systematic review and meta-analysis by the EAU-YAU endourology and urolithiasis working group.

BACKGROUND: Thulium Fiber Laser (TFL) has emerged as a promising alternative to Holmium: YAG for lithotripsy, yet its safety profile remains fragmented across various trials. This study aims to synthesize available evidence to determine the pooled complication rates associated with TFL lithotripsy . METHODS: A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. We searched PubMed, Cochrane CENTRAL, and ClinicalTrials.gov for studies reporting complications of TFL in adult patients with urolithiasis. The primary outcome was the overall complication rate. Secondary outcomes included Cl

Intraoperative detection of a right atrial mass during holmium: YAG laser lithotripsy: A fatal and rare complication: A case report.

RATIONALE: Holmium:YAG laser lithotripsy is widely used for the treatment of urinary tract stones and is generally considered safe. However, cardiovascular complications such as intracardiac masses are exceedingly rare and potentially fatal. This report presents a case in which an unexpected right atrial mass was detected intraoperatively during laser lithotripsy under general anesthesia using real-time transthoracic echocardiography. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 54-year-old woman with right-sided hydronephrosis and ureteral calculi was admitted for elective holmium:YAG laser lithotripsy. Preoperative

Comparative analysis of thulium fiber and holmium: YAG lasers on retropulsion and stone migration in ureteroscopic lithotripsy: real-world data.

Laser lithotripsy, which is widely applied in treating urinary system stones, presents difficulties such as stone migration due to retropulsion, especially in upper ureteral stones. This study aims to compare the stone migration rates of conventional Holmium:YAG (Ho:YAG), pulse modulated Ho:YAG, and Thulium Fiber Laser (TFL) in patients undergoing laser lithotripsy. A retrospective analysis of 455 patients who underwent laser lithotripsy for upper ureteral stones between 01.01.2021 and 01.06.2025 at a tertiary hospital was conducted. The cohort was divided into three groups based on the laser

In vitro and in vivo assessment of a bilayered degradable rapamycin-eluting stent for ureteral stricture caused by holmium: YAG laser lithotripsy.

Ureteral stricture caused by holmium: YAG laser lithotripsy is one of the most challenging issues for urologists. Currently, evidence for rapamycin application in reducing ureterostenosis is not sufficient. This study aimed to assess the inhibition of ureteral stricture of rapamycin-eluting stents in vitro and in vivo. A bilayered drug-eluting ureteral stent consisted of drug blending with poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PU/drug stent), which was over-layered by polycaprolactone (PCL) by ultrasonic atomizing spraying. Stent morphology was observed by scanning electron microscope. A kidney-uret
