Tubercular lymphadenitis (TBL) is the most common form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB), accounting for 20%-40% of EPTB cases. We present you a case of a 45-year-old male presented with gradually progressive swelling in the lower right side of the jaw for 2 months. At his initial consultation at another center, a diagnosis of carcinoma of the right lower alveolus was suggested. However, the histopathological examination (HPE) performed at the same center revealed a tubercular granulomatous lesion. As the patient's symptoms didn't seem to correlate with this diagnosis, he didn't initiate h…

This case report describes a case of probable non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) cervical lymphadenitis with extensive necrotic skin involvement. A girl in early childhood had a 3-month history of unilateral submandibular swelling. This developed into an abscess which discharged following trauma. She subsequently developed a significant necrotic soft tissue wound and was referred as suspected necrotising fasciitis of the neck. Following multidisciplinary input, she was diagnosed with probable NTM cervical lymphadenitis. A joint decision was made to avoid surgical debridement and not to treat w…

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an autoimmune disease that can be triggered by different infectious agents. Here we report the case of a 26-year-old Algerian woman who developed GBS associated with a Mycobacterium bovis cervical lymphadenitis. Following intravenous immunoglobulin therapy, the patient's neurologic state returned to normal after 3 months. The lymphadenitis responded more slowly to the antituberculous treatment and an excision of necrotic cervical lymph nodes had to be performed four times. Antibiotics were administered for 16 months: ethambutol was stopped after 2 months, and r…

Syphilis is coming back in the recent a few decades especially in the gay and HIV populations. Since syphilis can be "the great mimic" clinically and pathologically, a case report with updated review can be helpful to the medical community. We report, a case of syphilitic lymphadenitis diagnosed via fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB). The pitfalls associated with the diagnosis of syphilitic lymphadenitis will be discussed. The patient's medical records were reviewed. The pertinent history, clinical course, and ancillary studies including FNAB cytology with special stains are presented. In ad…

Two cases of scrofula are presented. These cases were very different in terms of age of the patient, duration of the lesion, and the clinical course. The final diagnosis was based on the histologic findings and tuberculin tests.

Mediastinal tuberculous lymphadenitis and tuberculous fistulae are recognised complications of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB); however, we could find no documented cases of broncho-mediastinal-oesophageal fistulae. We describe the case of a patient in their early 20s from a South Asian country with endemic TB who presented to a UK hospital with a productive cough, fevers, reduced appetite, inter-scapular pain and feeling generally unwell. They were initially diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia but their symptoms were refractory to antibiotic therapy. Following CT and endoscopy with biopsie…

Tularemia, caused by Francisella tularensis, is a zoonotic infection that typically presents with lymphadenopathy, acute tonsillitis, or ulcerative skin lesions. Various infectious agents and malignancies may underlie lymphadenopathy. Although necrotizing granulomatous reactions are common in suppurative lymphadenitis, caseating granulomas are rare and often raise suspicion for tuberculosis. We report two tularemia cases presenting with lymph node enlargement and caseating granulomas on histopathology. Case 1 involved a 27-year-old woman with axillary lymphadenopathy and no systemic symptoms. …

Caseous lymphadenitis is an infectious disease that has a significant economic impact on sheep breeding. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of season, animals' age, sex, body score and shearing on the clinical incidence of caseous lymphadenitis, relapses and abscess location in sheep from Settat province, Morocco. In this longitudinal study, 274 clinically healthy sheep were recruited in six flocks among 1451 inspected sheep and followed during 12 months to cover four seasons. The animals involved in this study were assigned to different age categories at continuous recru…

The differential diagnosis between malignant and benign adrenal cortical tumors is challenging, and concurrent androgen and cortisol production should raise suspicion of a malignant tumor. We present the case of a 36-year-old woman who exhibited pronounced hirsutism, clitoromegaly, and secondary amenorrhea. A contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a 35 × 27 mm right adrenal mass with unenhanced CT attenuation of 40 Hounsfield units (HUs). The mass exhibited absolute and relative washout rates of 50% and 28%, respectively, and was accompanied by a 25 × 20 mm adenopathy locate

Cryptococcal infection is a life-threatening, opportunistic infection in human immunodeficiency virus-infected individuals. The infection most commonly begins in the respiratory tract, with secondary involvement of the brain, skin, and lymph nodes. We report a rare case of isolated cervical cryptococcal lymphadenitis diagnosed on fine needle aspiration cytology, which was the initial presentation of secondary immunodeficiency in the patient. Periodic acid-Schiff stain, India ink preparation, and culture were done to confirm the diagnosis. He was diagnosed as HIV-positive on further investigati…

Leprosy is a chronic cutaneous infection. It is usually characterized by thickened nerves and maculo-anesthetic patches. Leprosy often has an unusual presentation, which is a diagnostic challenge. In this case report, we present a case of an elderly male who presented with fever and chronic pus-draining axillary, cervical, and inguinal lymph nodes. He also had a weak left foot for the previous 5 months. During his hospital stay, he developed additional papular lesions over his extremities. We performed fine needle aspiration from the lymph nodes and skin biopsy, which were suggestive of leprom

This report describes two cases of Salmonella mesenteric lymphadenitis leading to septic peritonitis in two young dogs. The cases were similar in presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and length of hospitalization. Both cases presented with clinical signs of vomiting, abdominal pain, and fever and were treated successfully via surgical debridement, omentalization, and antibiotic therapy. Both cases grew multi-drug resistant Salmonella spp. with resistance to ampicillin sulbactam, which is a common empiric antibiotic choice for cases of canine septic peritonitis. In both cases, the source of Salm…

UNLABELLED: Available reports dealing with acute nonspecific mesenteric lymphadenitis do not address the total duration of symptoms. However, it is commonly assumed a time for recovery ≤ 4 weeks. The purpose of this report was to investigate the course of acute nonspecific mesenteric lymphadenitis in childhood. A review was made of the patients aged ≤ 16 years in whom the diagnosis of acute nonspecific mesenteric lymphadenitis was established between 2011 and 2015 at the Pediatric Emergency Unit. The records of the Pediatric Emergency Unit, those of the referring family doctors, and the result…

Esophagomediastinal fistula secondary to mediastinal tuberculosis (TB) lymphadenitis is a rare and unusual complication. A 32-year-old woman visited our clinic because of chest pain. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated an esophagomediastinal fistula with subcarinal lymphadenopathy and no remarkable parenchymal lung lesions. The esophagomediastinal fistula was confirmed by esophagoscopy; however, the patient's bronchoscopy findings were unremarkable. The endobronchial ultrasound-guided lymph node aspiration did not confirm a diagnosis of TB. Finally, the patient was diagnosed via a lymph node…
