Mutlifocal osseous posttransplantation lymphoproliferative disorder: case report.

Posttransplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) is a known complication of organ transplantation, but musculoskeletal involvement of PTLD remains very rare. We present a case of recurrent PTLD of the bone in a heart transplant patient that was misdiagnosed as gout for several years. There are only a few cases of osseous PTLD in the literature, and we hope to better characterize its imaging findings on multiple imaging modalities.

Post-kidney transplant large bowel lymphoproliferative disorder.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD) is a serious complication of organ transplantation. The gastrointestinal (GI) tract is a common site involved, but non-specific signs and symptoms often delay the diagnosis. We report a case of EBV-associated GI-PTLD in a 68-year-old kidney transplant patient who received the kidney ten months earlier. He presented with chronic diarrhea and developed massive pneumo-peritoneum secondary to multiple colonic perforations.

Investigation of the BRAF V600E mutation by pyrosequencing in lymphoproliferative disorders.

The presence of the BRAF c.1799T>A V600E mutation was recently described in cases of hairy cell leukemia (HCL) but not in other common lymph … tations were identified in variant HCL, NMZL, ENMZL, PTLD, PTCL, ALCL, or LGL proliferations. Among lymphoproliferative disorders, BRAF mutations are restricted to HCL.

[The autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome: a disorder of programmed cell death].

The autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome (ALPS) is a chronic, nonmalignant lymphoproliferative disorder caused by mutations in the genes that are involved in programmed cell death (apoptosis). The impaired apoptosis causes accumulation of lymphocytes, which underlies the clinical manifestations of lymphadenopathy, autoimmune phenomena and a markedly increased risk of malignant lymphomas. During the last few decades, great progress has been achieved in elucidating the aetiology of this syndrome. Several mutations have been found in the genes encoding proteins that are involved in the apoptot

The natural history of a lymphoproliferative disorder in aged NZB mice.

The molecular lesions of human familial and common B-CLL remain unknown. As an approach to this problem, aged NZB mice with a B cell lymphoproliferative disorder were chosen as a murine model. Three groups of NZB mice (2 months, 6 months and > 18 months) for a total of nineteen were studied. A complete autopsy including a CBC was performed on each mouse. Spleen cells were immunophenotyped and cell cycle analysis was performed. Spleen weight, peritoneal cell counts and absolute lymphocytes counts were all elevated in the oldest group. All mice showed evidence of extramedulary hematopoiesis and

A familial lymphoproliferative disorder presenting with primary pulmonary manifestations.

A familial lymphoproliferative disorder presented in three male siblings with primary pulmonary involvement manifested as either lymphoid interstitial pneumonia or an angiodestructive polymorphous infiltrate morphologically resembling lymphomatoid granulomatosis. The polymorphous infiltrate consisted chiefly of mature T-cells with a few B-cells and plasma cells, and gene rearrangement studies failed to show clonality. Epstein-Barr virus, frequently associated with proliferative lesions in males in the X-linked lymphoproliferative syndrome, was not demonstrated in any of the pulmonary lesions.

The splenomegaly of myeloproliferative and lymphoproliferative disorders: splenic cellularity and vascularity.

Employing radionuclide scanning, the volume of the spleen, its red cell pool and plasma pool have been measured in vivo, and the relative proportions of cellularity and vascularity of the spleen have been calculated in 51 patients with myeloproliferative and lymphoproliferative disorders. In primary proliferative polycythaemia (polycythaemia vera), the increase of spleen size was attributed mainly to the increase of splenic vascularity; in myelofibrosis and in hairy cell leukaemia, the increase of spleen size was associated with increase in both splenic vascularity and cellularity, whilst in C…

Isolation of a new virus, HBLV, in patients with lymphoproliferative disorders.

A novel human B-lymphotropic virus (HBLV) was isolated from the peripheral blood leukocytes of six individuals: two HTLV-III seropositive patients from the United States (one with AIDS-related lymphoma and one with dermatopathic lymphadenopathy), three HTLV-III seronegative patients from the United States (one with angioimmunoblastic lymphadenopathy, one with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, and one with immunoblastic lymphoma), and one HTLV-III seronegative patient with acute lymphocytic leukemia from Jamaica. All six isolates were closely related by antigenic analysis, and sera from all six virus-

Refractory anaemia terminating in a combined lymphoproliferative and myeloproliferative disorder.

We report a case of non-sideroblastic refractory anaemia which evolved to a double lymphomyeloproliferative disorder. At presentation, bone marrow appearances and peripheral blood pancytopenia without myelomonocytosis were consistent with a diagnosis of non-sideroblastic refractory anaemia. Subsequently, the patient developed pronounced myelomonocytosis and lymphocytosis with prolymphocytes. Light and transmission electron microscopy as well as surface marker studies were compatible with a diagnosis of prolymphocytic transformation of chronic lymphocytic leukaemia/prolymphocytic leukaemia asso

Treatment of Methotrexate-Associated Lymphoproliferative Disorder With Biological Therapies.

Lymphoproliferative disorders may arise as a complication of immunosuppressant medications, such as methotrexate. This case report describes a patient who developed a rare subtype of methotrexate-associated lymphoproliferative disorder. His disease initially responded well to the withdrawal of methotrexate. However, several months after diagnosis, surveillance testing revealed progressive lymphadenopathy. Owing to his multiple comorbidities and resultant poor baseline functional status, he was not a candidate for cytotoxic chemotherapy. Based on key histopathological characteristics of his rar…

Multicentric clonal expansion of T cells do not inevitably indicate lymphoma. Lymphoproliferative disorders that display features of reactive hyperplasia and lymphoma and are not easily classified need to be carefully monitored.

Hydroa vacciniforme lymphoproliferative disorder, a clinicopathologic and genetic analysis.

Hydroa vacciniforme lymphoproliferative disorder (HV-LPD) is a rare Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated disease and the systemic form shows a propensity to progress and some cases may eventually develop a disease simulating NK/T-cell lymphoma or even aggressive NK-cell leukemia. We report 12 patients with systemic HV-LPD of median age 15.8 years with dermatosis involving the face, trunk, extremities and serous membranes. Ten of 12 patients (83 %) had systemic symptoms including 9 with prominent facial edema and 2 with bone marrow involvement. All cases were positive for EBER and CD3 and lacked

EBV and post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder: a complex relationship.

Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD) are a heterogeneous category of disease entities occurring in the context of iatrogenic immune suppression. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-driven B-cell lymphoproliferation represents the prototype of quintessential PTLD, which includes a range of histologies named nondestructive, polymorphic, and monomorphic EBV+ diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) PTLD. While EBV is associated with the majority of PTLD cases, other drivers of lymphoid neoplasia and lymphoma transformation can occur-with or without EBV as a codriver-thus underlining its vast he…

Updates in the Classification of T-cell Lymphomas and Lymphoproliferative Disorders.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Mature T/NK-cell neoplasms comprise a heterogeneous group of diseases with diverse clinical, histopathologic, immunophenotypic, and molecular features. A clinically relevant, comprehensive, and reproducible classification system for T/NK-cell neoplasms is essential for optimal management, risk stratification, and advancing understanding of these diseases. Two classification systems for lymphoid neoplasms were recently introduced: the 5th edition of World Health Organization classification (WHO-HAEM5) and the 2022 International Consensus Classification (ICC). In this review,
