METHODS: We examined the Supreme Court appeal decisions related to urology ma…

Medical malpractice claims in laparoscopic gynecologic surgery: a Dutch overview of 20 years.

BACKGROUND: The success of newly introduced surgical techniques is generally primarily assessed by surgical outcome measures. However, data on medical liability should concomitantly be used to evaluate provided care as they give a unique insight into substandard care from patient's point of view. The aim of this study was to analyze the number and type of medical claims after laparoscopic gynecologic procedures since the introduction of advanced laparoscopy two decades ago. Secondly, our objective was to identify trends and/or risk factors associated with these claims. METHODS: To identify th

Emerging patterns and themes related to the development of injury were identified. The database is a collection of medical liability claims filed against CRNAs insured by the St Paul Fire and Marine Insuran…

We excluded cases that did not mention the urologist, preoperative care, postoperative care, or complications. [Diseases and procedures apt to conflict with patients: an analysis of medical malpractice litigation cases].

The aim of this study was to explore effective ways to prevent conflicts between patients and healthcare professionals by analyzing 836 malpractice cases. The analysis revealed two points that especially influence court decisions: disease prognosis and inadequate informed consent. Regarding prognosis, decisions are more in favor of the defendant (medical institution) in diseases with poor prognoses, such as sepsis and anaphylaxis, than in diseases with typically good prognoses, such as acute epiglottitis and strangulation ileus. Regarding insufficient informed consent, the cases fell into two …
