Encephalocraniocutaneous lipomatosis "ECCL" is a rare, sporadic neurocutaneous disorder that results from a lethal autosomal mutation surviving by somatic mosaicism. It is characterized by unilateral involvement of skin, eyes and central nervous system in addition to a propensity for mesenchymal tumors. A 30-year-old male with previously controlled epilepsy presented with recurrent seizures. Brain imaging revealed a left parietal parasagittal enhancing tumor, in addition to left sided gyriform calcifications, and bilateral cerebral atrophy and ventricular dilatation more prominent on the left

The aim of this case report was to detail diagnosis and therapy in a case of implant-associated peripheral giant cell granuloma (IA-PGCG) of the jaw. Case Report: The 41-year-old female attended the outpatient clinic for treatment of recurrent mandibular IA-PGCG. The lesion was excised and the defect was closed with a connective tissue graft of the palate. Healing of oral defects was uneventful, and no local recurrence has occurred during a follow-up of 7 months. Genetic examination of the lesion identified a somatic mutation in KRAS. Conclusion: The lesions are assessed as reactive-inflammato

Glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC) is a relatively rare but well-described clinicopathologic entity. Its rarity and unpredictable clinical behavior are challenging to managing clinicians. Its variable and overlapping histomorphologic features are also diagnostically challenging for pathologists. Other odontogenic cysts and oral cystic neoplasms can simulate GOC. There are specific histologic criteria that help distinguish GOC from other mimickers. To our knowledge, the phenomenon of hemosiderin pigments deposition within the lining glandular epithelium of GOC has not been covered in detail or sp

A 39-year-old man presented with unilateral visual loss as the first sign of multiple myeloma (MM). His visual loss was due to a plasmacytoma in the sphenoid sinus compressing the optic nerve with resultant optic nerve atrophy. Shortly after this presentation he developed numb chin syndrome due to a mandibular plasmocytoma compressing the mental nerve. His MM progressed rapidly despite treatment with high-dose steroids and alkylating agents and he required allogeneic bone marrow transplantation in order to achieve a remission. We reviewed the published medical literature on the presentation of

Metastatic tumors result from hematogenous spread through a tumor located at a distance. All these tumors represent about 1% of malignant tumors of the oral cavity (1). The most common location is the mandible (70%), more rarely maxillary (2). The most frequently encountered tumors are carcinomas or adenocarcinomas of mammary origin, brocho-lung, prostate, kidney or another. This study reports the case of a 46 year-old man, who presented for consultation with a low left laterofacial swelling, paresthesia lip and chin straight associated with pain at the lower edge of the mandible evolving for

Chondroma of the mandibular condyle is rare and its signs and symptoms can mimic those of patients with more common disorders of facial asymmetry or dysfunction of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). We report a case of chondroma of the mandibular condyle that presented as temporomandibular pain with malocclusion, and which relapsed 5 years after the initial treatment. To our knowledge only 7 cases of chondroma of the mandibular condyle have been reported in the last 70 years. This case is the eighth.

PURPOSE: The present study aimed to investigate the clinical efficacy of simultaneous management of condylar osteochondroma and its secondary dentofacial deformities using an intraoral surgical approach.
METHODS: Six patients with condylar osteochondroma were treated with intraoral vertical ramus osteotomies and condylar resection. The free rising branch was used for reconstructing the temporomandibular joint. The simultaneous orthognathic surgery and plastic surgery were performed sequentially to correct the secondary dentofacial deformities. The indexes of aesthetic symmetry, occlusion rela

Big craniofacial resections for highly invasive malignant neoplasm, including skull base and maxillary bones, always represent a difficult chance for the reconstructive surgeon. In these cases it is not easy to restore anatomy and function simultaneously even adopting complex microsurgical techniques. In maxillofacial and oral surgery, simple bone homotransplantation for small bone segments reconstruction has been developing as popular technique and tissue banks offer not only bone segments but also many different tissues including complex body parts. In this paper we present, a case report of

Ameloblastoma is a rare odontogenic tumour that develops from the epithelial remains of the dental lamina. It is a benign but locally aggressive neoplasm that typically manifests as slow-growing tumours in the jaw, with posterior maxilla ameloblastoma being the rarer occurrence compared to mandibular ameloblastoma. This case report is about a 46-year-old Malay man who presented with a two-month history of left palatal and cheek swelling, along with symptoms such as left eye blurring, nasal block, and dysphagia. Imaging revealed a massive cystic lesion in the left maxillary sinus, which was dia

BACKGROUND: Noonan syndrome (NS) is a multigenic disorder with a highly variable phenotype. Cardiac disorders and a predisposition to neoplasm often require early medical attention. Central giant central lesions (CGCLs) of the jaws are part of the phenotype.
CASE REPORT: In a patient with genetically confirmed NS and multiple teeth loss presumably caused by CGCL, careful review of the medical history and radiographic findings made it probable that the cause of tooth loss was cervical root resorption (CRR) of the teeth following long-term orthodontic therapy.
CONCLUSION: CRR is a rare dental

INTRODUCTION: Osteoma is a rare slow-growing benign neoplasm which is often asymptomatic and composed of mature bone. Only 21 cases were previously reported in the mandibular condyle.
OBSERVATION: A 60 year old male presented with gross asymmetry of the lower jaw and reduced function. He mentioned that he was involved in an accident to the head about 16 years ago. Upon examination, it was noticed that the chin deviated to the left with some discomfort during function. Computed tomography revealed a radiopaque mass medial to the left condylar pole. The lesion was gradually increasing in size a

Epulis is a benign tumor, rarely involves aggressive alveolar bone resorption. This study reported a rare case of rapid growth of pregnancy epulis with extensive alveolar bone destruction and the management of this case. A 24-year old pregnant woman at 35 weeks and 1 day of gestation presented a large asymptomatic nodular mass with severe teeth loosening at the anterior mandibular region for 4 weeks. Radiographic examination showed extensive alveolar bone resorption around the affected teeth to the apical area. After delivery, the patient received an extended resection under general anesthesia

Giant cell granuloma (GCG) of the jaw is a rare, well-known feature of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), an inborn multisystem disorder. Recently, the development of GCG in NF1 was attributed to second hit mutations in the NF1 gene. The treatment of GCG is pragmatic with a preference for local curettage of lytic osseous areas. This report describes the surgical therapy of an NF1-affected female with multilocular mandibular GCG and hypodontia who additionally suffered from a brain tumour and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Although local recurrence of GCG was noted, augmentation of the curetted cavities
