A 60-year-old woman had developed ptosis, progressive external ophthalmoplegia and action tremor over the last ten years. Physical examination also revealed short stature and retinal pigmentation. A 60-year old man with a 10-year history of multiple system atrophy (MSA) was found in respiratory arrest. After 4 months of respiratory support with two episodes of septic shock, he died. Latexin is a novel 29 kDa protein which is expressed in a subpopulation of neurones in the lateral cerebral cortex of adult rats.
