The resulting sulfonamides were reacted with potassium trimethylsilanolate. A 25-year man presented to the Accident and Emergency Department complaining of dizziness and shortness of breath after taking 70 grams of cocaine over 10 hours. He said a friend had noticed that his skin had turned dark blue. On examination the patient was severely centrally and peripherally cyanosed. His pulse oximeter oxygen saturations were 88% on air. An arterial blood gas showed a methaemoglobin level of 45.6%. The patient was diagnosed with cocaine-induced methaemoglobinaemia and given methyl thioninium chloride (methylene blue). He made an uneventful recovery.

The crystal structure of the title compound, (C(5)H(9)N(2))(2)[HgCl(4)], consists of discrete tetra-chloridomercurate dications and discrete 2-methyl-imidazolium cations. In the complex anion, the mercury cations are coordinated by four chloride anions with distances between 2.4568 (14) and 2.4936 (15) Å in a tetra-hedral geometry. In the crystal, the cations and anions are connected by inter-molecular N-H⋯Cl inter-actions. One C atom of the cations is disordered and was refined using a split model (occupancy ratio 0.75:0.25).

The effects of ethylene oxide (EO), acrylamide, N,N'-methylene-bis-acrylamide (bis-acrylamide), and methyl mercury chloride (MMC) on brain creatine kinase (CK) activity were examined in vivo. EO and acrylamide, both of which cause central-peripheral distal axonopathy, inhibited CK activity in the brain and spinal cord. On the other hand, neither bis-acrylamide, a nonneurotoxic analogue, nor MMC which causes neuronopathy affected brain CK activity significantly. The inhibition of CK may play a role in the pathogenesis of distal axonal degeneration in the central and peripheral nervous systems.

CLNS1A is a chloride channel protein and an essential component of the methylosome complex, which additionally comprises PRMT5 and MEP50. In this study, we investigated its contribution to lung cancer and its potential as a therapeutic target. We examined monomethylmercury (MMHg) in sediment reference material IAEA-405 and sediments from Long Island Sound. MMHg was extracted by both aqueous distillation and leaching with dilute solutions of nitric acid.
