PURPOSE: To investigate the effectiveness of open-loop, one-piece, flexible, Kelman-style, all-polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) anterior chamber intraocular lenses (AC IOLs) in patients undergoing pars plana vitrectomy surgery for a variety of vitreoretinal disorders.
METHODS: Fifteen patients (6 women and 9 men) underwent combined pars plana vitrectomy with insertion of an open-loop AC IOL. Postoperative results were evaluated.

We review our experience in the treatment of complex large chest-wall defects needing a multidisciplinary approach due to primary or secondary neoplasms. Non-small cell lung cancer with chest-wall invasion cases are excluded. Fifteen patients underwent whole thickness resection of the chest wall due to lesions affecting at least three ribs, sternum, clavicle or thoracic spine and the surrounding soft tissue. A cementable endosteal blade implant has been developed and evaluated. Inherent in the design are the following factors: minimization of stress concentrators, ease of implantation, and high resistance to loosening. Other potential advantages of this design as compared with conventional endosteal blade implants include reduced hazards of postoperative infection and reduced likelihood of metallic corrosion. Six conventional endosteal implants and six cementable implants were installed in steer mandibles using standard dental surgical techniques and Simplex-brand methyl methacrylate bone cement.
