Giant mucocele secondary to cocaine abuse.

Mucoceles are benign lesions originating in the paranasal sinuses. Presented here is a novel case of a giant frontoethmoidal mucocele extending into the orbit and causing proptosis. The etiology was chronic transnasal cocaine abuse leading to extensive scarring and distortion of the nasal anatomy.

Mucocele formation following laryngeal cleft injection.

A 12-month-old male underwent injection laryngoplasty for dysphagia associated with a deep interarytenoid notch. He subsequently developed a large postcricoid mucocele requiring revision surgery and marsupialization of the cyst just 2 weeks following the initial surgery. Laryngoscope, 129:1696-1698, 2019.

Maxillary sinus mucocele with orbital complications.

INTRODUCTION: Maxillary sinus mucocele is an unusual clinic entity (incidence of 3-10%), represented by mucous secretion lined by respiratory stratified pavemented epithelium and its origin is mainly secondary to infections, inflammations, surgery, trauma or neoplasia. CASE REPORT: We present a case of maxillary sinus mucocele. Subject of the study is a 74 aged patient referring positive anamnesis for nasal cavity surgery. His symptoms appeared six months ago and he complainted vertical ocular diplopia and ocular tension sensation, without rhinologic complaints. Oculistic examination confirme…

Frontoethmoidal mucocele following pediatric craniofacial surgery.

BACKGROUND: Mucoceles occur as a result of accumulation and retention of mucous secretions in a paranasal sinus and are uncommon in the pediatric age group. Persistent or intermittent closure of its ostium through a variety of causes, including previous surgery, is implicated in etiology. The authors report 2 cases of frontoethmoidal mucocele that followed box osteotomies for the treatment of orbital dystopia, with medical literature review and discussion of possible causal factors and events. METHODS: Case histories and radiological imaging are presented on 2 patients presenting with frontoe…

Mucocele formation under pedicled nasoseptal flap.

The pedicled nasoseptal flap has become an indispensible tool for the reconstruction of skull base defects. This flap is easily harvested, provides a large surface area of vascularized tissue, and has few reported complications. We describe the case of a 60-year-old man who underwent endoscopic, endonasal transsphenoidal surgery with septal flap reconstruction who developed a sphenoid sinus mucocele postoperatively. We also have reviewed the literature for similar findings and discuss this complication in the setting of pituitary surgery and endoscopic skull base repair. Although likely a rare…

Frontoethmoidal mucocele presenting as progressive enophthalmos.

In this case report we describe a 27-year-old man who presented with progressive enophthalmos for 5 months without any other associated ocular symptoms such as pain, diplopia, or visual disturbance. Computed tomography showed that his progressive enophthalmos originated from a frontoethmoidal mucocele and this caused destruction of the lamina papyracea and shrinkage of the ethmoidal air cell. Finally the enlarged orbital space caused an inward deviation of the eyeball. Endoscopic marsupialization was successfully performed by an otolaryngologist and did not result in any ophthalmologic sequela…
