AIM: The aim of the study is to describe intracanalicular antibiotic ointment loading as a treatment option for canaliculitis.

OBJECTIVE: Recurrent aphthous ulceration is the most common oral mucosal lesion and may be associated with many systemic diseases. Topical corticosteroids are used frequently for recurrent aphthous ulceration; however, the number of high-quality clinical experiments available is insufficient, and no reports exist on the blood level of corticosteroids after topical usage in the oral mucosa. OBJECTIVE: To assess the effectiveness of nightly application of 5% lidocaine ointment for treatment of vulvar vestibulitis.
METHODS: Over 17 months, we assessed women presenting to our pain clinic for evaluation of introital pain; 61 women met the criteria for vulvar vestibulitis and participated in a treatment trial. We measured daily pain and intercourse-related pain using a 100-mm visual analog scale. We compared ability to have intercourse and pain ratings before and after treatment, and investigated whether prior treatment or gynecologic comorbidities predicted response to treatment.

BACKGROUND: Chronic anal fissure has traditionally been treated surgically. Initial enthusiasm for chemical sphincterotomy has waned because of poor outcomes with glyceryl trinitrate ointment. PURPOSE: To report two patients with severe fungal corneal ulcers who were treated successfully with topical amphotericin B ointment.
METHODS: Two eyes of two patients developed corneal ulcers and hypopyon after corneal foreign body removal. Aspergillus fumigatus and Fusarium solani were isolated in Patients 1 and 2, respectively. By antifungal susceptibility testing, amphotericin B was shown to have the lowest minimal inhibitory concentration.
RESULT: Topical administration of amphotericin B ointment resulted in dramatic improvement in fungal corneal ulcers.
