OBJECTIVE: The number of cycles performed with egg donation increases every year. In Brazil, between 2020 and 2023, 3.754 pregnancies were obtained with the aid of egg reception. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the emotional impact and psychological aspects involving treatments with heterologous oocytes.

Obesity can have detrimental effects on pregnancy rates in natural conceptions and also in women undergoing IVF or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). This review summarises the most recent clinical literature investigating whether obesity impacts oocyte quality and early embryo growth. In other tissues, obesity leads to lipotoxicity responses including endoplasmic reticulum stress, mitochondrial dysfunction and apoptosis. Recent reports indicate that lipotoxicity is a mechanism by which obesity may impact oocyte quality.

Pig oocytes matured in vitro are parthenogenetically activated after treatment with nitric oxide (NO)-donor SNAP. The chelation of intracellular calcium ions with BAPTA-AM suppressed the SNAP-induced activation in a dose-dependent manner. Spermatozoa from a patient with an artificial spermatocele (Dardik's prosthesis) implanted onto the vas deferens were found to have high levels of IgG/IgA antibodies absorbed on their surfaces (MAR-test). An intracellular level of cGMP (but not cAMP) transiently decreased the reinitiation of oocyte maturation in the starfish, Asterias amurensis. Exogenously applied cGMP inhibited hormone-induced maturation. Methylxanthines inhibited oocyte maturation by suppressing the decrease in cGMP levels. These results suggest that a decrease in cGMP levels is a prerequisite for meiosis reinitiation of starfish oocytes.

Collection and investigation of human oocytes are essential to the solution of certain medical problems. A total of 265 oocytes was obtained in the authors' own experiments from 34 surgical specimens, seven ovarian wedges, and 46 follicular punctates, all collected during operations. Oocytes may differ greatly in quantity and quality, depending on the original material or, more specifically, physiological condition of the ovaries, technique of collection, case history, and age of patient.
