Rosai-Dorfman-Destombes histiocytosis is a rare histiocytosis characterized by an accumulation of histiocytes within the tissues. It is a heterogeneous entity with various clinical phenotypes: isolated lymph nodes, in association with extranodal involvement, autoimmune disease or neoplasm. These extra nodal lesions mainly affect the skin, the nasal cavity, orofacial sinuses, or are lytic bone lesions or even damage to the central nervous system. The diagnosis is histopathological. We present here the case of a histiocytosis of Rosai-Dorfman-Destombes in a 46-year-old patient with a lesion of t

BACKGROUND: Extranodal nasal-type natural killer (NK)/T-cell lymphoma represents a rare entity, typically originating in the nasal cavity, palate or midfacial region. Signs and symptoms include non-specific rhinitis and/or sinusitis, nasal obstruction, epistaxis, facial swelling and development of deep necrotic ulceration in the midline of the palate, causing an oronasal defect. Differential diagnosis includes fungal infections, Wegener's granulomatosis, tertiary syphilis, other non-Hodgkin's lymphomas and malignant epithelial midline tumors.
CASE REPORT: We present a case of a 40-year-old ma

OBJECTIVE: Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) is a rapid, reliable and safe diagnostic tool used for various lesions of the oral cavity and salivary glands. The present study was undertaken to categorize the cytomorphology of the oral cavity and salivary gland lesions on FNAC and to assess the accuracy of FNAC in arriving at a diagnosis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A prospective study on oral cavity swellings and salivary gland aspirates was done during a 2 year period from August 2015 to July 2017 in which a total of 70 FNAC's were performed. There were 12 aspirates obtained from oral cavity

Seven patients with salivary gland tumors who underwent between 1972 and 2012 were retrospectively evaluated. The age of the patients ranged from 6.3 to 13 years old; five were females and two were males. Five patients had stage IVa, one patient had stage I, and one patient had stage II disease. The surgical margin was found to be positive in five cases. There were three adenoid cystic carcinoma, two adenocarcinoma, one anaplastic carcinoma, and one mucoepidermoid carcinoma. There were five parotid, one lacrimal gland, and one palatal involvement. Three patients who had low stage tumors were t

Solitary pigmented melanocytic intraoral lesions of the oral cavity are rare. Oral nevus is a congenital or acquired benign neoplasm. Oral compound nevus constitutes 5.9%-16.5% of all oral melanocytic nevi. The oral compound nevus is commonly seen on hard palate and buccal mucosa and rarely on other intraoral sites. The objective of this article is to present a rare case report of oral compound nevus in the retromolar pad region along with a review of literature. A 22 year old female reported with a solitary black pigmented papule at retromolar pad region which was surgically removed and micro

Oncocytic neoplasms comprise a group of rare tumors of salivary glands. Histologically, World Health Organization (WHO) (1991) classified them into three distinct types: Oncocytosis, oncocytoma and oncocytic carcinoma. Oncocytoma is also known by the more descriptive and less confusing terms of oxyphilic adenoma and oxyphilic granular cell adenoma. Oncocytoma is a rare benign salivary gland neoplasm composed of large epithelial cells with characteristic bright eosinophilic granular cytoplasm (oncocytic cells). It accounts for approximately 0.4-1% of all salivary gland neoplasms, occurring prim

BACKGROUND: Salivary gland tumors are uncommon and constitute 2-6.5 % of all head and neck neoplasms. Tumors of minor salivary gland origin account for less than 25 % of all salivary gland neoplasms. Papillary cystadenoma of salivary glands is a rare benign epithelial neoplasm characterized by multicystic growth in which the epithelium exhibits adenomatous proliferation. Papillary cystadenoma of minor salivary glands most frequently involves the lip, buccal mucosa, and palate. This tumor typically presents as a slow-growing, painless mass, usually with diameter of less than 1 cm and clinical r

Recent advancements in endoscopy equipment have facilitated endoscopists' detection of neoplasms in the oral cavity and pharyngolaryngeal regions. In particular, image-enhanced endoscopy using narrow band imaging or blue laser imaging play an integral role in the endoscopic diagnosis of oral and pharyngolaryngeal cancers. Despite these advancements, limited studies have focused on benign lesions that can be observed during esophagogastroduodenoscopy in the oral and pharyngolaryngeal regions. Therefore, this mini-review aimed to provide essential information on such benign lesions, along with r

Spindle Cell Carcinoma (SpCC), also known as Sarcomatoid Carcinoma, is a rare and peculiar biphasic malignant neoplasm that occurs mainly in the upper aero-digestive tract, mostly in larynx. SCC accounts for 3% of all squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) in the head and neck region. It is a rare variant of SCC which shows spindled or pleomorphic tumour cells simulating a true sarcoma. We present a case report of SpCC nasal cavity in a 50-year-old female patient, presented with intermittent epistaxis from left nasal cavity. On physical examination, the patient had an ulcero-exophytic type of mass in

Extranodal follicular dendritic cell (FDC) sarcoma of the head and neck region is uncommon, with 16 well-documented cases previously reported (four in the tonsil, four in the pharynx, two in the palate, five in the soft tissue, and one in the thyroid). We here report an additional three cases of extranodal FDC sarcoma in the tonsil (two cases) and pharynx (one case). In these new cases, the neoplastic cells were arranged in diffuse, fascicular, and vaguely whorled growth patterns. A background lymphocytic infiltrate was sprinkled throughout the neoplasms, with focal prominent perivascular cuff

The presence of intermediate filament proteins (IFP) in normal salivary gland tissue and investigated by immunohistochemical techniques on frozen sections. Cytokeratins (CKs) were seen in almost all normal epithelial cells. In the parotid gland and in palatal gland tissue, a co-expression of cytokeratin and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) was seen in some myoepithelial cells, but this was not apparent in the submandibular gland. In some pleomorphic adenomas, carcinomas in pleomorphic adenomas, one mucoepidermoid carcinoma, one mucus-producing adenopapillary carcinoma and one adenoid cys

This study describes a novel surgical technique for recurrent soft palate carcinoma using a combined endoscopic endonasal and transoral approach. By employing a sequenced three-line osteotomy, this method allows for the precise en bloc resection of the posterior maxilla and the involved tensor veli palatini muscle while avoiding external facial incisions.

AIDS-associated Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is the most common HIV-associated neoplasm. Disseminated Kaposi sarcoma became rare with the application of antiretroviral therapy. Oral AIDS-associated KS has prognostic relevance, indicating higher mortality than those with cutaneous lesions only. In this study, we reported a 40-year-old man presented with ulcerated violaceous plaques on his hard palate. Similar lesion can be observed on his left groin and anus, as well as on esophagus and gastric fundus under upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. Histological examination accorded with KS. After five cycles of
