Endoscopic surgical management of sinonasal inverted papilloma extending to frontal sinuses.

OBJECTIVE: Sinonasal inverted papilloma has been traditionally managed with external surgical approaches. Advances in imaging guidance systems, surgical instrumentation, and intraoperative multi-visualization have led to a gradual shift from external approaches to endoscopic surgery. However, for anatomical and technical reasons, endoscopic surgery of sinonasal inverted papilloma extending to the frontal sinuses is still challenging. Here, we present our experience in endoscopic surgical management of sinonasal inverted papilloma extending to one or both frontal sinuses. METHODS: We present 1

Recurrent inverted papilloma: diagnosis with pharmacokinetic dynamic gadolinium-enhanced MR imaging.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Dynamic gadolinium-enhanced MR imaging has been used successfully to identify post-treatment recurrence or postoperative changes in rectal and cervical carcinoma. Our purpose was to evaluate the usefulness of dynamic gadolinium-enhanced MR imaging for distinguishing recurrent inverted papilloma (IP) from postoperative changes. METHODS: Fifteen patients with 20 pathologically proved lesions (recurrent IP, 12; fibrosis or granulation tissue, eight) were enrolled in the study. Three observers, blinded to pathologic results, independently evaluated conventional MR images,

Detection of an unusual inverted schneiderian papilloma by cone beam computed tomography.

An inverted schneiderian papilloma (ISP) is a rare neoplasm that affects the nasal cavity or a paranasal sinus, especially the maxillary sinus. Although histologically benign, the lesion has a high potential for local destruction, has a high recurrence rate, and presents the possibility of malignant transformation into squamous cell carcinoma. To determine the extent of the injury and possible impairment of adjacent maxillofacial structures, accurate imaging, such as cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), is necessary. A 47-year-old man reported a nasal obstruction on the right side of his face

Primary Inverted Papilloma of Middle Ear and Mastoid: A Rare Case Report.

Inverted papilloma or Schneiderian papilloma arising primarily from middle ear and mastoid is a very rare entity. It is a benign and locally aggressive condition, with increased risk of recurrence and malignant transformation. Surgery is the primary treatment. Radiation therapy should be considered in case of malignant transformation, recurrent or inoperable disease. Here we are reporting a case of recurrent inverted papilloma with dysplastic changes arising from mastoid cavity in a 60-year-old male. The patient was treated with surgery followed by radiotherapy.

Sinonasal inverted papilloma: A case report and mini review of histopathological features.

Inverted papilloma is a benign epithelial growth in the underlying stroma of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. The pathogenesis of this lesion remains unclear although allergy, chronic sinusitis and viral infections have been suggested as possible causes. The tumor is well known for its invasiveness, tendency to recur and association with malignancy. Recurrence rates of inverted papilloma are unacceptably high, which actually represents residual disease in most cases. In this study, we have presented a case report and reviewed the histological features of sinonasal inverted papilloma.

Inverted papilloma of the maxillary sinus: Surgical approach and long-term results.

BACKGROUND: Inverted papillomas (IP) commonly develop in the maxillary sinus (MS). However, the MS is a complex structure, and all areas in the MS are not easily approachable. OBJECTIVE: This study reviewed our surgical outcome of patients with IPs that originated from the MS in long-term follow-up and suggests appropriate approaches according to the tumor origin. METHODS: Thirty-one patients who were diagnosed with IP that originated from the MS, underwent surgery by a single operator between 1999 and 2011, and had postoperative follow-up of >3 years were enrolled. RESULTS: In all the case

Bilateral ureteral inverted papilloma with synchronous transitional cell tumor of the bladder.

Inverted papillomas are benign urothelial tumors. The majority of cases occur in the bladder, while inverted papillomas of the upper urinary tract are very rare. The association of inverted papillomas of the bladder and urothelial malignancy is documented, but the incidence is low. Inverted papillomas of the upper urothelial tract coexist frequently with urothelial malignancy. Close follow-up with urography and cystoscopy is mandatory in such patients. We describe a case with synchronous bilateral ureteral inverted papilloma and a transitional cell tumor of the bladder, illustrating the strong

Occupational exposure and risk clusters in malignant transformation of inverted sinonasal papilloma.

Inverted sinonasal papilloma (ISP) is a benign epithelial neoplasm with potential for malignant transformation into squamous cell carcinoma (ISP-SCC). While high-risk HPV infection has been studied as a possible driver, other factors, including occupational exposures, may play a role. Thirty-two cases (n = 32) of ISP and ISP SCC were retrospectively analysed. These cases had been diagnosed between 2010 and 2022. We assessed their occupational history through the Italian Sino-Nasal Cancer Registry questionnaire and performed p16/p53 immunohistochemistry, HPV DNA and RNA testing. Overall, 41% of

Preoperative Prediction of Sinonasal Inverted Papilloma-associated Squamous Cell Carcinoma (IP-SCC).

INTRODUCTION: Sinonasal inverted papillomas (IP) can undergo transformation into IP-squamous cell carcinomas (IP-SCC). More aggressive treatment plan should be established when IP-SCC is suspected. Nevertheless, inaccuracy of the preoperative punch biopsy results to detect IP-SCC from IP raises the need for an additional strategy. The present study aimed to investigate significant clinicoradiological remarks associated with IP-SCC than IP. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Postoperative surgical specimens obtained from patients with confirmed IP or IP-SCC at a single tertiary medical center from 1997 to
