INTRODUCTION: Isolated coracoid process fracture of scapula is a rare. Usually, it happens along with the rotator cuff tear, dislocation of acromioclavicular joint, or glenohumeral joint. Displaced fracture will cause impairment of upper limb movement. Since there are very low numbers of cases reported so far, the treatment is still controversial.
CASE REPORT: We report a case of a 42-year-old male laborer with motor vehicle accident, following which he had pain and restricted movements on his left shoulder. On examination, Glasgow Coma Scale 15/15 and left shoulder had swelling and tendernes

BACKGROUND: Open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) has long been the conventional procedure for managing displaced patella fracture. This surgical approach has certain drawbacks, which might affect clinical outcomes and patient prognosis. Minimally invasive percutaneous fixation (MIPF) was proposed to overcome these disadvantages. Few in-depth investigations have been performed to determine the superiority of MIPF over ORIF. The aim of this study was to compare the efficacies of MIPF and ORIF for patella fractures.
METHODS: The PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Scopus databases were sear…

PURPOSE: Partial patellectomy (PP) and reattachment of the patellar ligament with transosseous suturing is the mainstay of surgical treatment for distal pole patellar fractures. An anchor suturing (AS) technique has recently been reported as an alternative to PP in such fractures and allows for bone-to-bone interface and possibly superior fracture healing than bone-to-tendon interface with PP. We present our experience with AS and compare it to PP.
METHODS: Between 2006 and 2011, 60 patients with distal pole patellar fracture underwent either AS (n = 27) or PP (n = 33). We retrospectively gat

This is the first reported case of bilateral sleeve fractures of the patellae in a child with crouch gait. A 12-year-old boy with hereditary spastic paraparesis (HSP), who was found to have mid-stance crouch of 20° on previous gait analysis, presented with pain of gradual onset and limited mobility. There was no history of trauma. Three-dimensional gait analysis showed that extensor mechanism function during loading response was intact, but knee flexion in swing was significantly reduced, indicating protective guarding by rectus femoris. X-rays showed bilateral minimally displaced sleeve fract

BACKGROUND: Comminuted fractures of the patella are traditionally treated by internal fixation. The modified tension-band technique is widely accepted for internal fixation. The management of comminuted fractures often requires additional K-wire and/or circlage material and wide surgical exposure. Therefore, symptoms and complications related to the stainless steel wire are not uncommon in these cases. We present a new alternative treatment technique for comminuted patellar fractures.
METHODS: Five comminuted patellar fractures of four patients were treated by circular external fixator (CEF)

Two hundred three fractures of the patella in 200 patients were treated by tension band wire fixation using one or several wire loops and 2 longitudinally directed Kirschner wires. They were reviewed with a mean follow-up of six years (range 1 to 10 years). There were 143 men and 57 women. Age at operation averaged 36 years (range 18 to 83 years). The most frequent etiology was a road traffic accident. The fractures were simple in 35.5%, slightly comminuted in 37%, and very comminuted in 27.5% of cases. Thirty-four fractures were open, and there were other associated fractures in 35 cases (17%

The purpose of this paper is to describe the author's personal experiences in using the Patella Tendon Bearing Cast (P.T.B.) as described by Sarmiento (6), in the management of tibial shaft fractures. In all patients weight-bearing was instituted in a P.T.B. cast 4 weeks from the date of the fracture. The results obtained were compared with those of conventional methods used in the treatment of tibial shaft fractures. Analysis revealed that when the P.T.B. cast was used for treatment of tibial shaft fractures, the time taken for fracture healing was significantly reduced and the functional res

This study aims to investigate whether an augmented wire in the treatment of patella distal pole fracture could improve knee range of motion (ROM) and radiographic features. Thirty-five consecutive patients with patellar distal pole fracture were analyzed from January 2014 to July 2019. The treatment is divided into two groups according to the presence or absence of augmented wire. Knee ROM, bone union, extension lag, and patellar height were compared between these two groups as the clinical and radiological outcomes. There was no significant difference in mean knee ROM (110° vs. 108°, p = 0.7

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to compare biomechanical characteristics of tension band wiring using Kirschner wires (TBWKW), cannulated screws (TBWCS), and ring pins (TBWRP) for transverse fracture of the patella.
METHODS: A total of 48 polyurethane synthetic patellae were biomechanically tested. All patellae were osteotomized to create a transverse fracture. Each TBWKW, TBWCS, and TBWRP fixed 16 broken patellae. A specially designed fixation board simulated a knee with 90° flexion. Ten static tests and six dynamic tests were performed on each method. The static test is measuring maxi

OBJECTIVE: Inferior pole fracture of the patella (IPFP) is notoriously difficult to manage. Although multiple surgical options are available, the percutaneous cannulated-screw tension-band (PCST) technique remains the conventional choice, despite its high complication rate. The recently introduced technique of tension-band wiring through a cannulated screw with suture anchors (TACS-SA) offers a promising alternative, though its efficacy requires further validation. This study was conceived to compare the biomechanical behaviour and early clinical results of the TACS-SA construct with PCST fixa

INTRODUCTION: Multiplanar mesh plating of patella fractures has become more popular in recent years. It was the goal of this study to compare the biomechanical stability of cannulated screw with anterior tension band to multiplanar mesh plating for fixation of transverse patella fractures in cadaver specimens.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eight matched pairs of fresh frozen cadaveric knees were obtained and soft tissues dissected leaving the extensor mechanism, joint capsule, and retinaculum intact. Transverse fractures were created at the mid-portion of the patella. For each pair, one specimen was…

A man in his 30s came to our clinic with a year-long history of progressive pain and swelling in his knee. Diagnostic imaging revealed a displaced patellar fracture with an osteolytic, septated lesion and thinned expanded cortex in both fracture fragments. A core needle biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of giant cell tumour. Treatment involved wide excision of the tumour and the use of polypropylene mesh and a peroneal longus tendon autograft to reconstruct the extensor mechanism of the knee joint. One year postoperatively, the patient experienced no pain, demonstrated full range of motion and sh
