[Patient satisfaction with spinal cord stimulation for failed back surgery syndrome].

INTRODUCTION: The incidence of failed back surgery syndrome is about 40%. We studied the efficacy of and patient satisfaction with use of a spinal cord stimulator to treat this syndrome. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A period of 72 months of experience with implanted spinal cord stimulators was analyzed in this observational, descriptive study of patients who were included retrospectively. Patients met criteria for failed back surgery syndrome according to the taxonomy of the International Association for the Study of Pain. A chi2 test was used to compare qualitative variables. Results for quantitati…

Patient satisfaction after surgery for trigeminal neuralgia--development of a questionnaire.

OBJECTIVE: This project aimed to prepare a self complete patient satisfaction survey for patients who have undergone surgery for trigeminal neuralgia and then assess its reproducibility, validity and acceptability in one centre. METHODS: The questionnaire, for initial use in patients who had undergone posterior fossa surgery for trigeminal neuralgia, was designed after a systematic review of the surgical literature had been performed and discussions held at the US and UK Trigeminal Neuralgia Support group meetings. It underwent several changes after input from neurosurgeons, patients, copywri…

[Patient satisfaction following operation for lumbosacral radicular syndrome: an apparent paradox].

An operation for a herniated disc is successful in the majority of cases. In most patients the pain in the affected leg disappears almost immediately. However in 10-40% of cases the symptoms either do not disappear or recur. In spite of this high complication rate, it is reported that almost 90% of patients are satisfied with the operation. This should be interpreted as a compliment to the attending physician and not as the outcome of the operation. The high rate of symptoms or recurrences after operation calls for better prognostic studies. Based on better predictions, patients and their doct

Psychosocial and pharmacologic predictors of satisfaction with intravenous patient-controlled analgesia.

Despite intravenous patient-controlled analgesia's (IV-PCA) increasing popularity, the psychological and pharmacological factors upon which patient satisfaction with IV-PCA are based are unknown. Sixty-eight women scheduled for abdominal hysterectomy completed a series of questionnaires measuring emotional distress, locus of control, perceived support, and optimism before their surgery. Postoperative ratings of pain intensity, emotional distress, anticipated recovery time, nightmares, and satisfaction with IV-PCA were taken 1 and 3 days after surgery. A nurse observer rated perceived anxiety, …

Life satisfaction of patients with penile cancer.

INTRODUCTION: In penile cancer, both disease and treatment may be mutilating. We examined life satisfaction in three separate groups; at penile cancer diagnosis and one and two years later. METHODS: From 1 January 2013 to 31 December2015, Danish penile cancer patients completed the Life-Satisfaction Questionnaire-11 (LISAT-11) at diagnosis and after one year and after two years. Responders scored 11 domains of life on a six-point scale. We analysed the scores and compared scores with those of a Swedish control cohort from the literature with patients in the same age group. RESULTS: A total o

Satisfaction with life in a group of psoriasis patients.

OBJECTIVES: To characterise clinical amyopathic dermatomyositis (CADM) from a clinical, histological, and prognostic perspective. METHODS: We retrospectively recorded data from our DM cohort. Patients were categorised into three groups: classic DM, hypomyopathic DM (HDM), characterised by normal muscle strength and evidence of muscle involvement in laboratory tests and/or instrumental examinations and CADM, featured by normal muscle strength and unremarkable findings in both laboratory tests and instrumental examinations. Available muscle biopsies from each group were also compared. RESULTS:

Homeless patients' experience of satisfaction with care.

This article explores homeless individuals' experiences of satisfaction with health care, and explores the interrelationship among experiences of being homeless, health perceptions of participants, and experiences of satisfaction with health care. It presents the findings of a phenomenological study that was conducted using participants selected from five sites in one southeastern state. Participant interviews were conducted at a nurse-managed primary health care clinic for homeless, at a night time soup-kitchen, and at three private, not-for-profit, homeless shelters in two different towns. Digitally supported, patient-initiated care: Maintaining control of inflammatory bowel diseases while achieving high patient satisfaction.

BACKGROUND: The increasing prevalence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and constrained clinical resources necessitate a shift from fixed-interval outpatient visits towards patient-initiated, needs-based follow-up. Real-world evidence on whether such transitions maintain disease control and achieve patient acceptance remains limited. In 2024, Aalborg University Hospital (Denmark) transitioned all patients with IBD not receiving biological therapy to a digitally supported, patient-initiated monitoring model. We aimed to evaluate the quality of care and patient satisfaction after the transitio…

Patient Perception and Satisfaction Questionnaire for Microtia Reconstruction: A New Clinical Tool to Improve Patient Outcome.

BACKGROUND: Patients' satisfaction is an increasingly important indicator for successful ear reconstruction surgeries. However, there is no scientifically sound patient-based outcome instrument in this field. This study aims at developing a patient-reported outcome measure for microtia reconstruction for investigating patients' satisfaction and perception of reconstructed ear and clinical researches. METHODS: The development of questionnaire included 3 stages. Traditional psychometric tests were used for analysis. At first stage, a preliminary version of the questionnaire was developed using

Patient reported differences in dry eye disease between men and women: impact, management, and patient satisfaction.

PURPOSE: Dry eye disease affects women twice as often as men, but there is little information on whether dry eye treatments, treatment satisfaction, or the impact of dry eye disease on patients' lives and vision might differ by sex. DESIGN: Questionnaire survey of 4000 participants in the Women's Health Study and the Physicians' Health Studies I and II with a prior report of a diagnosis of DED. METHODS: Among participants who re-confirmed a diagnosis of dry eye disease, we assessed symptoms, treatments, patient satisfaction and impact of dry eye disease, and analyzed differences between men …

Patient satisfaction following Goldilocks mastectomy in non-obese women: A pilot study.

The Goldilocks mastectomy was described as a reconstructive option for obese patients undergoing mastectomy, aiming to reduce surgical burden by avoiding extremes of traditional reconstruction. In non-obese patients, a limitation of this technique is insufficient postoperative breast volume; however, data on patient-reported satisfaction remains scarce. In this pilot study, we evaluated postoperative satisfaction in non-obese patients undergoing Goldilocks mastectomy using the BREAST-Q questionnaire. Despite limited breast volume, patient-reported outcomes demonstrated favorable satisfaction a

Factors Associated with Patient Satisfaction in Older Adults Undergoing Outpatient Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation.

BACKGROUND: Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are a leading cause of long-term care needs in Japan; therefore, rehabilitation is essential. Although patient satisfaction is an important indicator of care quality, factors associated with satisfaction among older adults receiving outpatient musculoskeletal rehabilitation remain unclear. Therefore, the present study aimed to examine patient satisfaction and its associated factors in this population. METHODS: This observational study included 100 outpatients with MSDs at a community hospital in western Japan (mean age, 77.2 ± 6.1 years). Satisfact…
