Hereditary neuropathy with liability to pressure palsies (HNPP) is an uncommon diagnosis that should be considered in patients with multiple compressive neuropathies. We present the case of a woman who presented with bilateral hand numbness and weakness. Electrodiagnostic testing revealed bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome, bilateral ulnar neuropathy at the elbow, left peroneal neuropathy at the fibular head, and a primarily demyelinating generalized sensorimotor neuropathy. Subsequent genetic testing identified a deletion at chromosome 17p11.2 to confirm the diagnosis of HNPP. Treatment of this

Peripheral neuropathy is an important manifestation of rheumatoid vasculiitis. It occurs in severe, long standing, seropositive, nodular, erosive rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A 56 year old female patient with fulminant RA, who developed a mononeuritismultiplex evolving into an asymmetrical neuropathy is described. The technique and utility of superficial peroneal nerve biopsy in patients with systemic vasculitis is discussed.

Early diagnosis of diabetic peripheral neuropathy is important for the successful treatment of diabetes mellitus. In the present study, we recruited 500 diabetic patients from the Fourth Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University in China from June 2008 to September 2013: 221 cases showed symptoms of peripheral neuropathy (symptomatic group) and 279 cases had no symptoms of peripheral impairment (asymptomatic group). One hundred healthy control subjects were also recruited. Nerve conduction studies revealed that distal motor latency was longer, sensory nerve conduction velocity was slow

The authors present a case of delayed peroneal neuropathy following a lateral gastrocnemius rotational flap reconstruction. The patient presented 1.5 years after surgery with a new partial foot drop, which progressed over 3 years. At operation, a fascial band on the deep side of the gastrocnemius flap was compressing the common peroneal nerve proximal to the fibular head, correlating with preoperative imaging. Release of this fascial band and selective muscle resection led to immediate improvement in symptoms postoperatively.

Peroneal nerve ganglion cysts typically present because of a palpable mass or symptoms and signs of entrapment neuropathy, including pain, diminished sensation, and motor weakness. Surgical treatment is usually successful when performed early, but, when diagnosis is delayed, intraneural growth and invasion may cause irreversible axonal injury and footdrop. This case report illustrates the importance of timely diagnosis when treating a ganglion of the peroneal nerve and reviews the appropriate workup, differential diagnosis, and treatment.

We present a case of peroneal nerve palsy which occurred 12 years after primary total knee arthroplasty as a result of extensive tibial osteolysis. The tibial osteolytic cyst extended through a cortical defect in the proximal tibia into the anterolateral compartment of the leg causing compressive neuropathy of the peroneal nerve. Imaging included radiographs, CT scan and MRI. At revision surgery, the tibial component was found loose with significant proximal tibial osteolysis. The cyst in the leg was decompressed through the cortical defect in the proximal tibia and analysis of cystic fluid re

Foot drop is a common condition that may impact physical function and health-related quality of life. A detailed clinical history and physical examination are critical components of the initial evaluation of patients presenting with foot drop. Patients with refractory foot drop without spontaneous recovery of motor deficits, delayed presentation greater than 12 months from injury, or neural lesions that are not amenable to or have failed nerve reconstruction may be candidates for tendon transfers to restore active ankle dorsiflexion. The modified Bridle procedure is a dynamic tendon transfer t

BACKGROUND: Sensory or motor syndromes, especially mononeuropathies, are infrequent complications of herpes zoster.
CASE REPORT: We describe a 77-year-old woman who developed a severe right common peroneal nerve mononeuropathy with clinical onset 10 days after a vesicular rash consistent with herpes zoster in the territory of distribution of this nerve.
CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, peroneal nerve mononeuropathy associated with herpes zoster has not been reported previously.

OBJECTIVES: Intraneural ganglia are nonneoplastic cystic formations contained within the epineurium of peripheral nerves. The common peroneal nerve at the fibular neck is the most frequently affected site. Intraneural ganglia are not a frequent occurrence in the adult patients and are even rarer in children, with only 10 pediatric cases reported in the English language literature. We report on a new pediatric case of intraneural ganglion of common peroneal nerve and present a review of the English language literature on this topic in children.
METHODS: A 10-year-old girl was admitted to our i

UNLABELLED: Peripheral nerve injuries may have a number of causes, most commonly mechanical. We describe a case of a deep peroneal nerve palsy in an adolescent boy which coincided with a large growth spurt. Spontaneous recovery of full function was seen without intervention.
CONCLUSION: In the absence of any other causative factors, we believe that this growth spurt resulted in temporary compression of the deep peroneal nerve at the level of the knee producing transient neurapraxia.

The anterior tarsal tunnel syndrome is a rare entrapment neuropathy of the deep peroneal nerve beneath the inferior extensor retinaculum of the ankle. It is frequently unrecognized and may lead to misdiagnosis and delayed treatment. We report the case of a 77 year old patient complaining of symptoms of an anterior tarsal tunnel syndrome with neuropathic pain located at the dorsal part of the foot, without any sensorimotor loss. The ENMG was in favour of a motor impairment of the deep peroneal nerve. MRI exploration of the ankle showed a millimetric bony overgrowth of the upper pole of the navi

We report a patient with type III Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, presenting with recurrent footdrop, who had electrophysiologic evidence of a conduction block of the common peroneal nerve followed by complete resolution. We feel that this case supports the possible link between Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and multiple pressure sensitive neuropathy (tomaculous neuropathy), alluded to by Schady and Ochoa (1984).

I reviewed 24 patients after decompression for peroneal entrapment neuropathy; in 3 cases the lesion was bilateral. There were 15 males and 9 females; mean age 44 (12-72) years. The etiology was an operation around the knee in 12, a tibial fracture in 2, a slight compression in 1, an ankle sprain in 2, excessive climbing in 2, sitting in a cross-legged position in 4, and in 4 cases no reason was found. There was foot drop in 15 and ankle instability in 12 cases. The nerve was decompressed after an average period of 17 months (4 days-8 years). Immediate relief of symptoms was achieved in 14 cas

There is no significant disagreement about the major common entrapment neuropathies, such as carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), ulnar neuropathy at the elbow, and peroneal neuropathy at the knee. In contrast, there is a group of entrapment syndromes about which there is major disagreement, including whether or not they even exist. There are other entrapment syndromes about which clinical questions arise on a regular basis, and which are the subject of this discussion. These include thoracic outlet syndrome, radial tunnel syndrome, ulnar nerve entrapment at the arcade of Struthers, piriformis syndro

Repetitive use injuries are commonly seen by musculoskeletal providers, usually in the form of tendinopathies. However, focal peripheral nerve entrapment can mimic or coexist with tendon pathology, particularly when weakness, sensory symptoms, or imaging findings are subtle or nonspecific. This review provides a practical, symptom-first framework to help clinicians distinguish tendon-dominant, nerve-dominant, and mixed presentations in clinical practice. Five clinically relevant tendon-nerve mimic pairs are emphasized: (1) rotator cuff tendinopathy versus suprascapular neuropathy; (2) lateral
