Standardized Patient Education for Decompensated Cirrhotic Patients and Impact on Clinician Satisfaction.

The development of ascites in patients with cirrhosis can cause numerous complications including abdominal discomfort, pain, respiratory distress, decreased mobility, diminished quality of life, and contributes to an increased mortality. Symptom self-monitoring that incorporates evidence-based treatments has been effective when used by patients with noncirrhotic chronic diseases. Guided by the theory of Self-Care of Chronic Illness, a self-monitoring guide was adapted from an existing validated tool. In the context of a pilot quality initiative, staff nurses educated patients with ascites and

Gain of care independence following surgical intervention for cervical spondylotic myelopathy: a Quality Outcomes Database study.

OBJECTIVE: Chronic spinal degenerative diseases have been associated with reduced quality of life and dependency on others for personal needs and care. The change between preoperative and postoperative care dependency has yet to be explored in patients with cervical spondylotic myelopathy (CSM). In this retrospective study of a prospectively collected database, the authors evaluated the return to independence in performing self-care following surgical intervention for CSM. METHODS: The CSM dataset of the Quality Outcomes Database (QOD) Spine CORe study group was queried. Care dependency was a

The mediating role of rumination between boredom proneness and life satisfaction in married couples: a dyadic study.

Married couples invariably impact one another during their shared time. Prolonged interactions may influence their perceptions of one another. A total of 529 married couples (n = 1058) participated in the study, which employed the Brief Boredom Proneness Scale, the Satisfaction with Life Scale, and the Rumination Scale on Interpersonal Errors. Data were gathered via online questionnaires and analyzed employing the Actor-Dependency Mediat

Romantic Relationship Satisfaction and Sexual Communication Self-Efficacy Among Partnered Adolescent Sexual Minority Males.

Theoretical frameworks suggest that romantic relationship satisfaction may influence sexual communication self-efficacy, which involves the confidence to discuss personal sexual health goals and plays a key role in HIV prevention among partnered adolescent males who have sex with males (MSM). The current study examined romantic relationship satisfaction as a correlate of sexual communication self-efficacy in a sample of partnered adolescent MSM. Participants (n = 50) completed self-report measures including romantic relationship satisfaction and sexual communication self-efficacy. Domains of s

The response rate was 63% (520 of 830). 98.5% of women had hoped for a vaginal delivery and 1.5% for a Cesarean section. All primiparas had wanted a vaginal delivery. The majority of women were satisfied with their care in labour (65% had a score of > or

Factors associated with satisfaction with community-based non-medicalized counseling and testing using HIV rapid tests among MSM in France.

The aims of the study were to determine the level of satisfaction of men who have sex with men (MSM) participating in two community-based non-medicalized counseling and testing programs (ANRS-DRAG and ANRS-COM'TEST) offering HIV rapid tests (hereafter CBOffer), and to identify factors associated with satisfaction. Between 2009 and 2011, 436 participants voluntarily benefited from a CBOffer in the two programs. They completed self-administered questionnaires before and after testing. Psychosocial scores were constructed using principal component analyses to reflect the following dimensions: pos

Nurse faculty struggle to balance all aspects of their role, including scholarship/research, teaching, service, and practice, along with their personal values, which can contribute to feelings of burnout. PROBLEM: Traditional models for supporting nurse faculty professional development and evaluation fail to incorporate personal values and do not include practice as its own component of the faculty role. APPROACH: This article presents the quad

Domains of life satisfaction in social anxiety disorder: relation to symptoms and response to cognitive-behavioral therapy.

A general sense of satisfaction with life has been shown to be discriminable from symptom levels and disability in clinical populations. The current study focused on the utility of identifying domains of life satisfaction in social anxiety disorder and differential changes in these domains following cognitive-behavioral group therapy (CBGT). An exploratory principal axis factor analysis of the items of the Quality of Life Inventory in clients with a principal diagnosis of social anxiety disorder (N=138) yielded four domains of life satisfaction: (1) Achievement, (2) Social Functioning, (3) Per
