Clinicians' Assessment of Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD): A Network Analysis Approach on DSM-5-TR Criteria and Domains.

Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) is a personality disorder that entails significant impairments and/or costs at the individual, interpersonal, and community levels. Given its clinical relevance, scientific research is placing a significant focus on the study of the central characteristics of this condition to guide prevention and clinical practice. Within this framework, the present study aimed to investigate the associations and centrality of ASPD criteria and maladaptive trait domains in mental health professionals' conceptualization of the disorder, thus taking into account both categ

Functioning Assessment Short Test (FAST): validity and reliability in adolescent and young adults with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).

BACKGROUND: Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) significantly impacts individuals, causing substantial distress and impairing social, occupational, and other critical areas of functioning. Current tools to assess functioning in BPD are limited and often lack validation in BPD-specific populations. Furthermore, available instruments focus primarily on global functioning rather than specific areas such as cognitive functioning or interpersonal relationships. This study aims to validate the Functioning Assessment Short Test (FAST) in adolescents and young adults with BPD in a Spanish population

Psychometric properties of comprehensive cognitive, affective, and psychomotor competency assessment scales in psychodynamic psychotherapy for borderline personality disorder.

BACKGROUND: Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a type of psychotherapy for individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD). However, competency in conducting effective psychodynamic psychotherapy for BPD is difficult to evaluate. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the psychometric properties of a comprehensive scale to assess cognitive, affective, and psychomotor competencies (CS-CAPC) in psychodynamic psychotherapy for BPD. METHODS: This is a qualitative study. The first step used the Delphi technique to gather experts' opinions on the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor competenci

High-frequency assessment of mood, personality, and cognition in healthy younger, healthy older and adults with cognitive impairment.

Increased variability in cognitive scores, mood or personality traits can be indicative of underlying neurological disorders. Whether variability in cognition is due to changes in mood or personality is unknown. A total of 66 younger adults, 51 healthy older adults and 38 participants with cognitive impairment completed 21 daily sessions of attention, working memory, mood, and personality assessment. Group differences in mean performance and variability were examined using Bayesian mixed effects location scale models. Variability in attention decreased from younger to older adults and then inc…

Convergence in patient and therapist alliance ratings early in treatment with Personality Assessment Inventory clinical scales and subscales.

We examined discrepancies in 81 patient-therapist dyads' alliance ratings early in treatment (3rd or 4th session) in relation to Personality Assessment Inventory clinical scales, subscales and global psychopathology. Results indicated that PAI global psychopathology (mean clinical elevation) and the scales of Aggression [AGG], Somatization [SOM], and Anxiety-Related Disorders [ARD] were significantly, negatively associated with an absolute difference of patient and therapist alliance ratings at Session 3. Higher initial scores on these clinical scales at treatment onset are associated with les…

Implementation of the DSM-5 and ICD-11 Dimensional Models of Maladaptive Personality Traits Into Pre-bariatric Assessment.

Background: Personality pathology does not have to be a contraindication to a bariatric surgery if a proper pre-surgical assessment is done. Indicating subgroups of patients with their specific needs could help tailor interventions and improve surgical treatment outcomes. Objectives: Using the Alternative DSM-5 model for personality disorders (AMPD) and the ICD-11 model for PDs to detect subgroups of patients with obesity based on a specific constellation of maladaptive personality traits and the level of overall personality impairment. Methods: 272 consecutively consented patients who underwe

Contributions of acculturation, enculturation, discrimination, and personality traits to social anxiety among Chinese immigrants: A context-specific assessment.

Based on the diathesis-stress model of anxiety, this study examined the contributions of cultural processes, perceived racial discrimination, and personality traits to social anxiety among Chinese immigrants. Further guided by the theory of intergroup anxiety, this study also adopted a context-specific approach to distinguish between participants' experience of social anxiety when interacting with European Americans versus with other Chinese in the United States. This quantitative and ex post facto study used a convenience sample of 140 first-generation Chinese immigrants. Participants were re

Extending the validity of the Personality Assessment Inventory's (PAI) Level of Care Index (LOCI) in multiple psychiatric settings.

The purpose of this study was to extend the validity and clinical application of the Level of Care Index (LOCI) from the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) in 2 independent psychiatric samples. In Study 1 (N = 201), the LOCI effectively differentiated level of care (inpatients from outpatients), and was also meaningfully associated with risk factors for psychiatric admission (e.g., suicidal ideation, self-harming behavior, previous psychiatric admission, etc.), even after controlling for other demographic variables (range of Cohen's ds = 0.57-1.00). Likewise, the LOCI also incremented othe…

Personality-based subtypes of anorexia nervosa: examining validity and utility using baseline clinical variables and ecological momentary assessment.

OBJECTIVE: This study sought to empirically derive and validate clinically relevant personality-based subtypes of anorexia nervosa (AN). METHODS: Women (N = 116) with full or subthreshold AN completed baseline measures of personality, clinical variables, and eating disorder (ED) symptoms, followed by two weeks of ecological momentary assessment (EMA). A latent profile analysis was conducted to identify personality subtypes, which were compared on baseline clinical variables and EMA variables. RESULTS: The best-fitting model supported three subtypes: underregulated, overregulated, and low psy

[Prognosis of pathologic personality changes, repeated hospitalizations and assessment of the risk of suicide attempts in reactive depression].

With the aid of clinical scales and eventual components, regressive and discriminant analysis the author elaborated a system of prognostical indices for the assessment of unfavourable outcomes and formation of pathological personality development as well as in patients with reactive conditions in the form of depressions, neurasthenia and hysterical neurosis. Observations which amounted to the mark equal to or exceeding the critical (68) should be considered as dangerous in relation to a formation of a pathological personality.

Assessment of medication management by community-living elderly persons with two standardized assessment tools: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: The ability of patients to adhere to a medication regimen is imperative for achieving optimal outcomes. Elderly patients, especially those with memory loss, should be evaluated for their ability to manage medications to prevent significant drug-related problems. Assessment tools to determine the ability to manage medication therapy have not been tested in elderly patients with cognitive impairment. OBJECTIVES: This study compared the Medication Management Ability Assessment (M1V1AA) and the Drug Regimen Unassisted Grading Scale (DRUGS) as standardized tools to assess medication ma

Personalized Lifespan Approach to Autism Assessment: A Clinical and System Framework for Developmentally Informed Assessment Across the Life-Course.

The increasing prevalence of autism has led to considerable system challenges as specialist-driven approaches have struggled to keep pace. Recent research has challenged status quo models by demonstrating that community-based pediatric clinicians can accurately diagnose autism in young children. This research provides an opportunity to further expand capacity of community systems to conduct developmentally relevant, context-specific assessments of autistic people over their lifespan. In this Commentary, we propose a personalized lifespan approach to autism assessment as a precision care and sy

Assessing the Effect of Personalized Diabetes Risk Assessments During Ophthalmologic Visits on Glycemic Control: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

IMPORTANCE: Optimization of glycemic control is critical to reduce the number of diabetes mellitus-related complications, but long-term success is challenging. Although vision loss is among the greatest fears of individuals with diabetes, comprehensive personalized diabetes education and risk assessments are not consistently used in ophthalmologic settings. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether the point-of-care measurement of hemoglobin A(1c) (HbA(1c)) and personalized diabetes risk assessments performed during retinal ophthalmologic visits improve glycemic control as assessed by HbA(1c) level. The multidomain mobility lab in older persons: from bench to bedside. The assessment of body composition in older persons at risk of mobility limitations.

With body composition it is possible to divide human body in compartments on the basis of different physical properties. The two level body composition model subdividing the whole body in fat mass and fat free mass is the most used in epidemiological and clinical studies in the elderly. Body composition techniques may be used to study ageing process. Changes in body composition occur as part of the normal ageing process and are associated with important effects on health and function. It has been shown that body composition changes with aging, with an increase in fat mass and a decrease in mus

A deep learning approach to personality assessment: Generalizing across items and expanding the reach of survey-based research.

Traditional methods of personality assessment, and survey-based research in general, cannot make inferences about new items that have not been surveyed previously. This limits the amount of information that can be obtained from a given survey. In this article, we tackle this problem by leveraging recent advances in statistical natural language processing. Specifically, we extract "embedding" representations of questionnaire items from deep neural networks, trained on large-scale English language data. These embeddings allow us to construct a high-dimensional space of items, in which linguistic…

Evaluating Personality Assessment Inventory Response Patterns in Active-Duty Personnel With Head Injury Using a Latent Class Approach.

OBJECTIVE: Previous research has found that among those with brain injury, individuals have a variety of different potential symptom sets, which will be seen on the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI). The number of different groups and what they measure have varied depending on the study. METHOD: In active-duty personnel with a remote history of mild traumatic brain injury (n = 384) who were evaluated at a neuropsychology clinic, we used a retrospective database to examine if there are different groups of individuals who have distinct sets of symptoms as measured on the PAI. We examined t…

International Assessment of DSM-5 and ICD-11 Personality Disorder Traits: Toward a Common Nosology in DSM-5.1.

INTRODUCTION: The DSM-5 Alternative Model of Personality Disorders (AMPD) and the ICD-11 classification of personality disorders (PD) are largely commensurate and, when combined, they delineate 6 trait domains: negative affectivity, detachment, antagonism/dissociality, disinhibition, anankastia, and psychoticism. OBJECTIVE: The present study evaluated the international validity of a brief 36-item patient-report measure that portrays all 6 domains simultaneously including 18 primary subfacets. METHODS: We developed and employed a modified version of the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 - Brief
