Highly purified preparations of the DNA-dependent RNA polymerase obtained from Escherichia coli contain about 2 g-atoms of tightly bound zinc per mol (molecular weight 370,000) of enzyme. The prenylated protein carboxyl methyltransferase (PPMT) catalyzes the posttranslational methylation of isoprenylated C-terminal cysteine residues found in many signaling proteins such as the small monomeric G proteins and the gamma subunits of heterotrimeric G proteins. Vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) spectra are measured for dichloromethane solutions of the resolved enantiomers of [Ir(bzq)2(phen)]+ (bzqH = benzo[h]quinoline; phen = 1,10-phenanthroline).
