This study assessed the impact of fruit temperature on the phenolic metabolism of grape berries (Vitis vinifera L. cv. Merlot) grown under field conditions with controlled exposure to sunlight. Individual cluster temperatures were manipulated in situ. Diurnal temperature fluctuation was damped by daytime cooling and nighttime heating of clusters. Medium peels are an excellent modality for treating actinically damaged skin. Because they create wounds that extend only down into the upper dermis, they have less risk of complications than deeper phenol peels. Conversely, because of their more superficial nature, they also are not as effective as phenol peels in improving deep scars and wrinkles. Cosmetic surgeons should consider medium-depth peels a useful addition to their current armamentarium against aging skin, rather than a replacement for phenol peels.

A series of 24 patients underwent 27 transtrigonal phenol injections for the treatment of bladder instability. Only 2 of 18 patients with detrusor instability and 2 of 6 with detrusor hyperreflexia continued to derive benefit from the procedure 6 months after it was carried out. Sclerotherapy with 2.5% phenol solution was used to treat 63 hydroceles in 55 patients with a mean age of 69 years. In 51.6% of the patients (32 hydroceles) 1 treatment was sufficient, while 2 treatments were necessary in 25.8% (16 hydroceles), 3 in 13% (8 hydroceles) and 4 in 8% (5 hydroceles). The racemic monoclinic polymorph of the title com-pound, C8H10O, is known from the literature [Antona et al. (1973 ▸). Acta Cryst. B29, 1372-1376] and has been redetermined here. Additionally, a new enanti-opure ortho-rhom-bic polymorph is reported. The strongest inter-molecular inter-actions are within one-dimensional hy-dro-gen-bonded chains which are very similar in the two polymorphs. On the other hand, the packing of the chains in the crystal differs significantly between the two forms.
