Immature necrotic teeth after trauma pose both endodontic and restorative challenges because of incomplete closure of the apex, and thin and weakened dentinal walls that make them prone to fracture. The use of light-transmitting plastic posts, in combination with adhesive materials, enable intraradicular reinforcement of flared canals, helping to rehabilitate fractured immature teeth and maintain a functional unit within the dental arch. The purpose of this paper is to present the case of a nine-year-old patient who had a complicated fracture of an immature anterior tooth, which was endodontic

The influence of thermocycling on the bond strength of fibre posts cemented with different luting approaches was investigated. A total of 84 human incisors were selected for the study. Sixty teeth were assigned to one of the following adhesive/cement combinations for push-out bond-strength evaluation: group 1, XP Bond/CoreXFlow + DT Light-Post; group 2, Panavia F 2.0 + Tech 21; or group 3, RelyX Unicem + RelyX. Bonded specimens were cut into 1-mm-thick slabs and either thermocycled (40,000 cycles) or stored in artificial saliva (control specimens) before push-out bond-strength testing. Additio

Witkop's tooth and nail syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant disorder of ectodermal dysplasia characterized by hypodontia and nail dysplasia. Mutations in MSX-1 have been shown to be associated with this syndrome. There is failure of development and eruption of the dentition. Tooth shape may vary; the most common forms are conical and narrow crowns. The nails may be spoon shaped and slow growing and affect both finger and toe nails. The nail involvement is more severe in childhood. The present case describes a 14-year-old boy who showed the characteristic features of Witkop's syndrome. A mult

The field of dental medicine is constantly evolving and advancing toward minimally invasive techniques. Several studies have demonstrated that bonding to the tooth structure, particularly enamel, yields the most predictable results. In some instances, however, significant tooth loss, pulpal necrosis, or irreversible pulpitis may limit the options available to the restorative dentist. In these cases, placement of a post and core followed by a crown is the preferred treatment option, provided all requirements are met. This literature review provides an overview of the historical development of d

BACKGROUND: The selection of post-core material holds significant importance in endodontically treated teeth, influencing stress distribution in the dental structure after restoration. The use of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) glass fiber post-core possesses a better adaptation for different root canal morphologies, but whether this results in a more favorable stress distribution has not been clearly established.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study employed finite element analysis to establish three models of post-core crown restoration with normal, oversized, and

PURPOSE: Clinical failures of teeth restored with post-and-core are critical issues for the survival of teeth and maintenance of oral functions. A tooth with post-and-core restoration is a complex structure. Cement adhesion is believed to be the weakest component, and breakage in this component leads to changes in stress distribution in the complex structure. The tested hypothesis was that cement breaking processes of prosthetic treated teeth were affected by elastic properties of post-and-cores.
METHODS: Finite element analysis focused on sequential adhesion failure between the dentin and ce

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of three metal priming agents on the bond strength of adhesive resin cement to Silver-Zinc-Tin-Indium (Ag-Zn-Sn-In) alloy and pure Ag, Zn, Sn, and In. The specimens were air-abraded with alumina and then primed with one of three metal priming agents: V-Primer, Estenia Opaque Primer, or Alloy Primer. The metal disks were bonded with adhesive resin cement (Super-Bond Bulk-mix technique). Shear bond strengths (n=10/group) were determined before and after 50,000 thermocycles for Ag-Zn-Sn-In alloy as well as after 5,000 thermocycles for pure Ag, Z

Following avulsion and replantation, teeth are at risk for infection and infection related resorption (IRR). Severe discolorations of tooth crowns and cervical root fractures are common. This study presents data on endodontic related complications of avulsed teeth replanted following an extraoral endodontic treatment. Periodontal aspects will be discussed in the second part of the present publication. Twenty-eight permanent teeth in 24 patients aged seven to 17 years were replanted after avulsion. All teeth could be evaluated. In all teeth extraoral endodontic treatment by retrograde insertion

Aesthetic rehabilitation of sub-gingival crown fractures of the maxillary anterior tooth present extreme challenges to the dental surgeon. The prognosis of traumatized tooth depends on accurate diagnosis and physiological status of the involved tooth. This paper discusses two different cases of subgingival fracture of maxillary anterior tooth that was managed by two different technique of forced eruption. After endodontic management and forced eruption, esthetic rehabilitation was completed by placing post and core, and all ceramic crown. The final result was successful and resulted in good es

The aetiology of post-tonsillectomy fever is obscure. Bacteraemia during surgery, anaesthetic agents and the inflammatory response of tissue to injury have been implicated. A prospective study was undertaken in 100 consecutive children to evaluate the occurrence and severity of fever in the 24 h after tonsillectomy and its relationship to bacteraemia during surgery and qualitative and quantitative cultures (colony counts) of organisms in tonsil core tissue. Fifty-four patients had a fever (> 37.5 degrees C) postoperatively, of whom, 30 had a fever greater than 38 degrees C. Blood cultures duri
