The interactions of Aspergillus flavus uricase with the substrates O2 and urate and the inhibitors xanthine, cyanide, periodate and hydroxylamine were investigated. Under equilibrium conditions O2 does not bind directly to the enzyme, and the absence of O2 had no effect on either the binding stoicheiometry or binding constant for xanthine, as measured by equilibrium dialysis and microcalorimetry. In this work, we prepared a three-dimensional vanadium octacyanoniobate-based magnet, K(0.10)V(II)(0.54)V(III)(1.24)[Nb(IV)(CN)(8)].(SO(4))(0.45).6.8H(2)O. This compound exhibits ferrimagnetism with a Curie temperature of 138 K, in which the sublattice magnetizations of V(II) (S = (3)/(2)) and V(III) (S = 1) are antiparallelly ordered to that of Nb(IV) (S = (1)/(2)). The estimated superexchange interaction constants of V(II)-Nb(IV) and V(III)-Nb(IV) are -51 and -25 cm(-1), respectively.

The stability to heart of cis-permethrin and beta-cypermethrin in the solid phase was studied and the decomposition products identified. Samples heated at 210 degrees C in an oven in the dark showed that, in the absence of potassium chlorate (the salt present in smoke-generating formulations of these pyrethroids), cis-permethrin was not isomerized, although in the presence of that salt, decomposition was greater and thermal isomerization occurred. This study was aimed to compare the efficacy of aqueous garlic extract, sodium nitrite (SNT), sodium thiosulfate (STS) and hydroxocobalamin against oral cyanide exposure in rabbits. For this purpose, forty two adult male rabbits were divided randomly into 7 groups of 6 animals (A-G) each. Rabbits in group A were offered feed only and served as negative control, while the rabbits in group B received feed plus potassium cyanide (KCN) at 3mg/kg orally and were kept as positive control. Animals in group C received feed, KCN and intraperitoneal injection (IP) of aqueous garlic extract at 500mg/kg.

Treatment of cyanide poisoning generally includes methemoglobin forming agents, like amyl nitrite and/or sodium nitrite (SN), in combination with sodium thiosulphate (STS). The ecto-ATPase activity of washed human platelets has been characterized by a higher-performance liquid chromatographic method. Mg++ was found to stimulate ecto-ATPase activity more strongly than Ca++. The combination of Mg++ and Ca++ at increasing concentrations caused diminishing activity levels.
