Sera from 71 patients with culturally proven nocardiosis were tested for precipitins against a pool of Nocardia asteroides and N. brasiliensis culture filtrates and against antigens from the supernatant of homogenized N. asteroides cells. A cross-sectional study on suberosis was conducted in the Champagne-Ardenne County, France, to determine the prevalence of respiratory symptoms, the level of pulmonary function, and the presence of precipitins against Penicillium frequentans. Indoor cultivation of oyster mushroom Pleurotus osteatus lead to an outbreak of extrinsic allergic alveolitis in two workers. High titer of indirect fluorescent antibody and positive precipitins against basidiospores of P. osteatus were demonstrated in sera of the patients. Mushroom workers should protect themselves from the basidiospores, being aware of their pathogenicity.

BACKGROUND: Pigeon fanciers' lung (PFL) is a form of extrinsic allergic alveolitis. Affected individuals produce antibodies to various pigeon antigens, and the resulting immune complexes are thought to initiate the disease. However, high antibody titres also occur in some asymptomatic individuals. Previously attention has focused on protein antigens, but we have recently identified pigeon intestinal mucin as a novel antigen in PFL.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the relationship between IgG subclass antibodies to pigeon intestinal mucin and the development of pigeon fanciers' lung.

An autopsy was performed on a patient who had chronic hypersensitivity pneumonitis that was observed for 9 years. The patient was a farmer who developed symptoms every March through July during the use of moist hay that was infected heavily with Candida. Precipitins and an inhalation challenge test to C albicans were positive. We interpret the role of C albicans in this case.

We describe five patients with hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) that was related to using home ultrasonic humidifiers. All patients had micronodular infiltrates on their chest radiograph, and their lung biopsy specimens revealed alveolitis with or without epithelioid cell granulomas.
