Voices of Stroke Survivors With Dysphagia: A Roy Adaptation Model-Based Qualitative Analysis.

AIM: To explore the neurobehavioral and psychosocial adaptation experiences of stroke survivors with dysphagia using the Roy Adaptation Model as an analytical framework. METHODS: This qualitative study employed a deductive design guided by the Roy Adaptation Model. Nineteen adults with acute stroke and clinically confirmed dysphagia were recruited from a university hospital in Türkiye between July and October 2025. Data were collected through semi-structured, face-to-face interviews conducted within the first week after stroke onset. Interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed verbatim, and a

Psychosocial mechanisms of sustained learning engagement in university Tai Chi courses: a qualitative study of teacher-peer dual-support synergy and learning pathways.

BACKGROUND: In university physical education courses, Tai Chi, as a course requiring a high level of bodily coordination and sustained practice, poses challenges in maintaining students' learning engagement. Although teacher support and peer support are widely regarded as important psychosocial resources for promoting learning engagement, their mechanisms of action and interactive processes in skill-based embodied learning contexts remain insufficiently explained. In particular, how social support facilitates sustained learning engagement through psychological mechanisms has not yet been fully

Understanding the needs of children and young people with food hypersensitivities: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Research has highlighted the psychosocial impact of living with food hypersensitivities (FHS) on children and young people (CYP). However, there is a paucity of qualitative data from CYP themselves in terms of the support they would like to receive to improve their psychological well-being. OBJECTIVE: To further understand firsthand the experiences of CYP with FHS including the challenges they face and to inform structural changes in how their psychological well-being is supported. METHODS: CYP aged 8 to 17 years were recruited with self-reported food allergy or celiac disease an

Psychological Support for Personality (PSP) versus treatment as usual: study protocol for a feasibility randomized controlled trial of a low intensity intervention for people with personality disorder.

BACKGROUND: Previous research has demonstrated the clinical effectiveness of long-term psychological treatment for people with some types of personality disorder. However, the high intensity and cost of these interventions limit their availability. Lower-intensity interventions are increasingly being offered to people with personality disorder, but their clinical and cost effectiveness have not been properly tested in experimental studies. We therefore set out to develop a low intensity intervention for people with personality disorder and to test the feasibility of conducting a randomized con

The Community Navigator Study: a feasibility randomised controlled trial of an intervention to increase community connections and reduce loneliness for people with complex anxiety or depression.

BACKGROUND: Loneliness is associated with poor health outcomes at all ages, including shorter life expectancy and greater risk of developing depression. People with mental health problems are particularly vulnerable to loneliness and, for those with anxiety or depression, loneliness is associated with poorer outcomes. Interventions which support people to utilise existing networks and access new social contact are advocated in policy but there is little evidence regarding their effectiveness. People with mental health problems have potential to benefit from interventions to reduce loneliness,

The Incremental Validity of Transdiagnostic Dimensions of Personality and Psychopathology in Predicting Important Psychological Outcomes.

Dimensional models of psychopathology offer an alternative to traditional categorical systems, yet research examining the incremental validity of transdiagnostic dimensions over diagnostic categories remains limited. The current study uses data from 685 outpatients, who presented at an academic medical centre for psychological assessment, to determine whether transdiagnostic dimensions derived from commonly used clinical assessment measures (Fear/Distress, Narcissistic Antagonism, Attachment, Flexible Thinking, Somatization, External Coping and Anger/Aggression) increment the variance in suici

Impact of Mobility Loss on Independence and Psychosocial Wellbeing in People With Parkinson's Disease and Carers: A Meta-Ethnography.

BackgroundMobility impairments in Parkinson's disease (PD) significantly impact individuals' physical health, independence, and psychosocial wellbeing. In this review, mobility loss is used to refer to altered or impaired mobility (eg, reduced gait, balance difficulties, freezing of gait), rather than a complete loss of mobility. These changes affect daily functioning and quality of life. Carers also experience significant burden as they manage mobility issues. Understanding the implications of mobility loss in PD is essential for improving support for both people with PD and carers. This revi

The barriers and solutions to effective management of bipolar disorder during the perinatal period: a thematic review.

BACKGROUND: Perinatal bipolar disorder (BD) presents unique challenges due to physiological, hormonal, and psychosocial changes during pregnancy and postpartum, increasing vulnerability to mood instability. Effective management is vital for maternal and infant health, but multiple barriers complicate care. This review aims to clarify whether obstacles arise from limited psychiatric expertise among obstetric providers, insufficient perinatal knowledge among psychiatric providers, or both. METHODS: A thematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines, synthesizing literature (2015-2025)

Attitudinal barriers to psychological support-seeking among carers of people with a chronic physical health condition: A qualitative meta-synthesis.

OBJECTIVES: Family/friend carers are the "invisible backbone" of our healthcare systems, providing essential support to people with chronic physical health conditions. Yet many face significant unmet needs, burdens and psychosocial concerns. Psychological interventions can help carers to manage these impacts, however, carers often demonstrate low engagement with psychological support services. This systematic review aimed to provide a meta-synthesis of qualitative studies to determine the attitudinal barriers to seeking formal psychological support services among carers of people with a chroni

Understanding Nicotine Use in Schizophrenia Through a Psychosocial Lens: A Narrative Review.

Objective: Nicotine use in schizophrenia remains markedly higher than in the general population, contributing to increased morbidity, relapse, and functional impairment. While biological factors have been widely studied, limited attention has been given to the psychosocial factors that sustain nicotine use in this group. This review synthesizes available evidence on these psychosocial influences to inform intervention planning and policy development. Methods: A narrative review was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, and Google Scholar to identify studies from 2000 to 2025 that examined

Universality in daily primary care practice: a qualitative study of mental health management in Italy and Spain.

AIM: This article examines how general practitioners (GPs) in Italy and Spain manage patients with mental health needs in daily primary care practice, and how their discretionary choices shape the substantive reach of universal access to care. BACKGROUND: Modern healthcare systems in Italy and Spain formally guarantee universal access to primary care. However, mental health services in primary care reveals persistent gaps between this normative principle and everyday practice. Drawing on Lipsky's Street-Level Bureaucracy (SLB) theory, GPs are understood as frontline professionals whose discre

Experiences of burden and needs in caregivers with pediatric noninfectious uveitis: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Long-term, potentially lifelong therapy is needed to treat noninfectious uveitis (NIU) in children. Previous research has focused primarily on treatment approaches, but few studies have investigated the effect of children's chronic illness on other family members. The aim of this study is to explore the experiences of burden and needs in caregivers of children with NIU, and to provide a reference for formulating targeted intervention strategies. METHODS: A total of 11 caregivers of children with NIU were recruited from a tertiary-level eye hospital in Wenzhou Province, China. For

[Psychosocial rehabilitation applied to children].

Based on a developmental approach, psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR) for children assumes that a combination of factors points to problems and, as for adults, focuses on recovery. It does not depend solely on the child but on a process involving supportive adults. Recovery in children supports the hope of the parents and builds a new form of parenthood to cope with the child's disability. To optimize psychosocial abilities of a child with a neurodevelopmental disorder (NDD), a personalized assessment and early interventions are needed. Promoting parental skills is the key to preventing additio
