Delayed tooth replantation: MTA as root canal filling.

MTA has been investigated as a root-end filling material. Its mechanism of action has some similarities to that of Ca(OH)2. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the repair process taking place in the delayed replantation of monkey teeth using calcium hydroxide and MTA as root canal filling materials. Five monkeys had their lateral incisors extracted and bench-dried for 60 minutes. After root canal preparation, the teeth were assigned to two groups according to root canal filling material: I, calcium hydroxide; and II, MTA. The same treatment sequence was followed for both groups: coronal …

Negotiating and Treating Lateral Canals: Report of 7 Cases.

This is a series of 7 cases in which the operator penetrated lateral canals with instruments. Two teeth presented with irreversible pulpitis, 4 with necrotic pulps, and 1 with previous treatment. Except for the teeth with pulpitis, all the others were associated with apical periodontitis. The main root canal was always relatively straight, with the lateral canals at the middle third of the root. Suggestive images of lateral canal presence were seen on periapical radiographs in five cases. The clinician introduced intentionally small hand instruments in the lateral canal in 5 cases, while the p

Diagnosis and root canal treatment in a mandibular premolar with three canals.

This paper presents a case report of a left mandibular second premolar with three canals and three different apical foramina. A 39-year-old male patient presented to our clinic with pain in the mandibular left second premolar. Initially, pain was caused by cold stimulus and later was spontaneously. The intraoral clinical examination revealed a fractured amalgam restoration with occlusal caries. Percussion and cold (Endo-Frost) tests were positive. The radiographic examination showed the presence of two roots. The probable diagnosis was an acute pulpitis. After access cavity, it was observed re

Effect of root canal filling material and level of surgical injury on periodontal healing in dogs.

Some divergencies in the literature about periodontal healing after surgical injury stimulated the development of this experiment. The root canals of dogs' teeth were negotiated and filled by the lateral condensation technique with two kinds of sealers: Sealapex and zinc oxide-eugenol cement. In the second session, the bone tissue was exposed and one cavity was made at the apical third of the root and another at the border between the coronal and middle thirds, both penetrating into the root canal. Six months later the animals were sacrificed and the specimens prepared for histopathologic anal

Dens invaginatus Type II in an Immature Lateral Incisor With Apical Periodontitis Treated With Regenerative and Strategic Antimicrobial Procedures: A Case Report.

Dens invaginatus is a developmental dental anomaly that can predispose the tooth to pulp and periradicular disease. Management of this condition can be challenging because of anatomic and microbiologic issues. This case report describes the regenerative endodontic treatment using a strategic antimicrobial protocol for management of an immature maxillary lateral incisor with type-II dens invaginatus associated with apical periodontitis in a 13-year-old patient. The tooth presented with a complex anatomy and was associated with an active sinus tract. Because the true root canal was not negotiabl
