Sertoli-Leydig cell tumours (SLCTs) are rare sex cord stromal neoplasms of ovary accounting for less than 0.5% of all ovarian tumours. These are found in women of all age groups (2-75 y), but are most common in reproductive age group with an average age of 25 y. INTRODUCTION: An ovarian Sertoli cell tumour was detected in a 4-year-old girl with gonadotrophin-independent precocious puberty. Such gonadal tumours can be associated with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome, caused by mutations in the STK11 gene. We have therefore sequenced the STK11 gene.
RESULTS: Mutation analysis revealed a nonsense mutation in exon 1 (c.130A>T;p.Lys44X) of the SKT11 gene, which resulted in a truncated, inactive protein. The mutation was heterozygous in patient's lymphocytes and almost homozygous in the tumour, indicating loss of heterozygosity.

We report on del(1)(q44), developmental delay, cryptorchidism, and seizure disorder in a 19-year-old man. Endocrinologic evaluation showed delayed puberty and elevated gonadotropins. Testicular biopsy was consistent with Sertoli cell-only syndrome. The case illustrates a previously an unreported manifestation in males with del(1)(q44), and suggests a link between the development of germinal epithelium and genes in the 1q44 area.

Seventeen cases of Sertoli cell tumor in dogs were found by searching medical records from 1971 to 1985. The average age of affected dogs was ten years, and most animals were of mixed breed. Most of the dogs were presented for reasons unrelated to the Sertoli cell tumor, however, most dogs had one or more clinical signs associated with Sertoli cell tumor. A 17-year-old girl with refractory, but nonmalignant, hypertension and hypokalemia is presented. A state of primary hyperreninism and secondary hyperaldosteronism was found to exist, together with a renin-producing Sertoli cell ovarian tumor. Upon removal of the tumor, this patient attained both a normotensive and a normokalemic state. A brief review is given of renal and nonrenal renin-producing tumors.

The clinical and pathological features of 207 ovarian Sertoli-Leydig cell tumors from our consultation and hospital files were reviewed. The patients ranged in age from 2 to 75 (average 25) years. Seventy-five percent of them were 30 years of age or younger and less than 10% were over 50 years of age. Ovarian Sertoli Leydig cell tumours (SLCTs) are rare and occur predominantly in young females. Categorised as less common ovarian cancers, they have a favourable prognosis, and fertility preservation is an option in early-stage disease, where fertility is desired. Here, we describe a case of a late adolescent girl, who presented after tumour excision of left ovarian mass. Her initial histopathology report showed mucinous adenocarcinoma of left ovary. Slide review and immunohistochemistry suggested stage IC, intermediate grade Sertoli Leydig cell tumour and the patient was kept on observation.
