[Distribution of Enterobius vermicularis among the schoolchildren of two primary schools with different social-economic status in the Ankara province].

In this study, 207 cellophane-tape specimens were taken from children at two different primary schools in Ankara province. Twenty two out of 207 samples were positive for Enterobius vermicularis (10.6%). A questionnaire including the major factors affecting the distribution of E. vermicularis such as the students' ages, genders and socio-economic status was made. No relationship was found between children's gender and E. vermicularis infection, whereas a higher infection rate was seen in the low-income families. When the 6-9 age group was taken into consideration, the incidence of E. vermicula

Health-Related Social Needs and eHealth Literacy Among Community-Dwelling Older Adults With Chronic Diseases: Associations With Diabetes Status.

Diabetes, a chronic condition prevalent among older adults, imposes a substantial disease burden. Effective care requires sustained self-management, and digital health technologies increasingly support this process. For older adults, engagement in digital health depends not only on individual skills but also on health-related social needs (HRSNs), which reflect unmet social and environmental conditions that hinder effective health maintenance. This study aimed to examine associations between diabetes status and HRSNs and to investigate their associations with eHealth literacy in community-dwel

Prior Cervical Cancer Screening, Social Determinants of Health, and HIV Status Among Patients at the Cancer Disease Hospital, Zambia.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer screening uptake remains very low in sub-Saharan Africa, particularly in Zambia, where limited access results in high cervical cancer mortality. Social determinants of health (SDOH) are among the factors influencing low screening rates. Women living with HIV (WLHIV) are especially vulnerable due to additional risk factors. Although Zambia has expanded screening programs into HIV clinics, the impact of SDOH on screening uptake is not well understood. This study investigated the relationship between prior cervical cancer screening, SDOH, and HIV amongst diagnosed cerv

[Cross-sectional association between social isolation and nutritional status among older urban adults: The Itabashi Longitudinal Study on Aging].

AIM: The social isolation of older Japanese adults with infrequent contact with others diminishes appetite, reduces food intake, and worsens their nutritional status. However, there is insufficient evidence regarding the association between social isolation and nutritional status, with studies primarily confined to rural and suburban areas. This cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the association between social isolation and nutritional status among older adults residing in urban areas. METHODS: This cross-sectional analysis included 1,052 adults (mean age, 78 years). Nutritional statu

Social determinants of HIV status and viral load suppression among transgender women in South Africa: a cross-sectional analysis.

Transgender women in South Africa face a heavy HIV burden, but data on key psychosocial and structural factors remain limited. This cross-sectional study examined associations between HIV outcomes and psychosocial (substance use, alcohol use, medical distrust, community connectedness) and structural (education, homelessness, income, sex work, violence) factors. We conducted interviewer-administered surveys with 213 transgender women in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and East London between June and November 2018. Of the 213 participants, 196 knew their HIV status and 67 reported living with HIV. Mul

mTOR inhibitor reverses autistic-like social deficit behaviours in adult rats with both Tsc2 haploinsufficiency and developmental status epilepticus.

Epilepsy is a major risk factor for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and complicates clinical manifestations and management of ASD significantly. Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), caused by TSC1 or TSC2 mutations, is one of the medical conditions most commonly associated with ASD and has become an important model to examine molecular pathways associated with ASD. Previous research showed reversal of autism-like social deficits in Tsc1 +/- and Tsc2 +/- mouse models by mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitors. However, at least 70 % of individuals with TSC also have epilepsy, known to compl

Arrest Status, Suicide-Related Outcomes, and Moderating Social Factors: A Cross-sectional Study of a U.S. Sample (2015-2019).

Individuals impacted by the criminal legal system are at heightened risk for death by suicide. This study aimed to examine the association between arrest status and suicidal thoughts, suicide plans, and suicide attempts among a nationally representative sample in the United States and investigate if this relationship is moderated by social factors. Data were from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, a nationally representative cross-sectional survey of adults ≥ 18 years old (2015-2019). Logistic regressions were used to examine the relationship between arrest status (never arrested (n =

Celebrating more than 26,000 adult attachment interviews: mapping the main adult attachment classifications on personal, social, and clinical status.

Since the development of the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) in 1985, more than 26,000 AAIs have been administered, coded, and reported, representing 170 (wo-)man-years of work. We used multinomial tests and analyses of correspondence to compare the AAI distributions in various cultural and age groups, in mothers, fathers, high-risk, and clinical samples with the combined samples of North American non-clinical, non-risk mothers (22% dismissing, 53% secure, 8% preoccupied, and 17% unresolved loss or other trauma). Males were more often classified as dismissing and less frequently classified as

Social disadvantage, linguistic distance, ethnic minority status and first-episode psychosis: results from the EU-GEI case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Ethnic minority groups in Western countries face an increased risk of psychotic disorders. Causes of this long-standing public health inequality remain poorly understood. We investigated whether social disadvantage, linguistic distance and discrimination contributed to these patterns. METHODS: We used case-control data from the EUropean network of national schizophrenia networks studying Gene-Environment Interactions (EU-GEI) study, carried out in 16 centres in six countries. We recruited 1130 cases and 1497 population-based controls. Our main outcome measure was first-episode ICD

Matching on health status to estimate the effects of outpatient care and social factors in patients with COPD: a Norwegian registry‑based study.

Isolating the effects of outpatient care on hospitalisation in observational data is challenging. We estimate the effects of factors believed to influence hospital admissions in patients with COPD. The factors were related to outpatient care and social factors, motivated by recommendations in COPD guidelines and the literature. We applied linked national and municipal registry data on 25,369 COPD patients in Oslo and Trondheim 2008–2019. Yearly frequency and type of healthcare contacts (respiratory and non-respiratory, across providers), together with comorbidities, were used as proxies for pa

Race Differences in the Effect of Subjective Social Status on Hostility and Depressive Symptoms Among 9- to 11-Year-Old Children.

PURPOSE: Research shows that subjective social status (SSS) is a salient determinant of health. However, there is little research on SSS-related group differences on psychosocial outcomes among children. The purpose of the current study was to determine if associations between psychosocial functioning and SSS in children varied as a function of racial groups. METHODS: We used a series of regression models to examine associations between SSS and measures of hostility and depressive symptom severity in groups of Black and White children. All analyses controlled for objective markers of family- …

Social status and demographic effects of the kappa opioid receptor: a PET imaging study with a novel agonist radiotracer in healthy volunteers.

Kappa opioid receptors (KORs) have been characterized as an aversive system in the brain and implicated in social behavior in preclinical models. This work investigated the effect of social status on the KOR system in humans using positron emission tomography (PET) imaging with the novel KOR agonist radiotracer [11C]EKAP. Eighteen healthy participants (mean age 41.2 ± 9.3) completed the Barratt Simplified Measure of Social Status (BSMSS), an MRI and an [11C]EKAP PET scan on the High Resolution Research Tomograph. Arterial blood sampling and metabolite analysis were conducted to obtain the inpu…
