Three-finger toxins (TFTs), including neurotoxins and cytotoxins, form one of the largest families of snake venom proteins and interact with various biological targets. OBJECTIVE: This study examined the changes of regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) by noninvasive near infrared spectrophotometry in neonates with meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS).
METHODS: Seventy-three full neonates with MAS were divided into three groups by respiratory symptoms: asymptomatic group (group 1, n=38), common group (group 2, n=28) and severe group (group 3, n=7). On the basis of atomic absorption spectrophotometry rat teeth and mandible copper levels in experimental postmenopausal osteoporosis and after administration of 17 beta-estradiol were measured. The results showed that estrogen deficiency leads to decrease in copper content in rat teeth and mandible, and giving of 17 beta-estradiol positively influence the content of mineral components in the examined tissues.

One hundred and forty-two teeth of children and adults were analysed for lead content by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The results showed that, for children, tooth age is an important factor that has to be taken into consideration when lead levels are evaluated. In adults tooth type may be ignored, as it is not a major factor affecting lead accumulation.

The present study revealed a significantly low zinc concentration, measured by atomic absorption spectrophotometry, in serum, plasma and erythrocytes of mothers with anencephalic babies as compared to two control groups of women. We feel that Turkey should be added to the list of geographic regions where zinc deficiency has been found together with a high rate of CNS malformations.

Polyene antibiotics are macrolide antifungal compounds obtained by fermentation of producer Streptomyces strains. Here we describe commonly used methods for polyene production, detection, and their subsequent extraction and purification. While bioassays are used to detect these compounds based on their biological activity, quantification by spectrophotometry or high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC ) relies on their physiochemical properties and is more reliable.

A method for the spectrophotometric determination of promazine by flow injection analysis is reported. The procedure is based on the reaction of promazine with molybdophosphoric acid. Concentrations of promazine in the range 1-25 ppm have been determined with a relative standard deviation of 1.8% at 10 ppm (n = 20). The method was applied to the determination of promazine in injections and compared favourably with an independent reference method based on spectrophotometry.
