The purpose of this systematic study was to discover a connection between temporomandibular joint disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder. A systematic review of observational studies on post-traumatic stress disorder and the incidence of temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) was conducted. Electronic searches of PubMed, the Saudi Digital Library, Science Direct, the Virtual Health Library (VHL), Scopus, Web of Science, Sage, EBSCO Information Services, and Ovid were performed. There was a consensus among the reviewing examiners. Only studies with the following Medical Subject Headings

Objective: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a common risk factor for opioid use disorder (OUD). However, not all individuals with PTSD develop OUD when exposed to opioids. As the underlying moderators remain unexplored, this analysis aimed to determine if non-traumatic adverse experiences and stressors prior to the age of 18 moderate the relationship between PTSD and OUD. Methods: In a matched dataset (n = 830) of individuals with or without PTSD who reported lifetime use of opioids, the following non-traumatic adverse experiences and stressors were assessed: emotional abuse, emotional

OBJECTIVE: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and hypertension are highly prevalent among Veterans. Cognitive dispersion, indicating within-person variability across neuropsychological measures at one time point, is associated with increased risk of dementia. We examined interactive effects of PTSD symptom severity and hypertension on cognitive dispersion among older Veterans.
METHODS: We included 128 Vietnam-era Veterans from the Department of Defense-Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (DoD-ADNI) with a history of PTSD. Regression models examined interactions between PTSD symptom

Background: Patients with hematological malignancies undergo intensive treatments, endure prolonged hospitalizations, and face the stress of a life-threatening diagnosis, placing them at high risk for developing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and related trauma symptoms. Methods: This narrative review synthesizes findings from PubMed-indexed studies examining the prevalence, clinical features, and consequences of PTSD in patients with hematological malignancies. A separate focused search was also conducted to identify PTSD studies in patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplan

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: We aimed in this case series to identify shortcomings in assessment of long-term painful and psychosocial consequences of EI and to demonstrate the value of biopsychosocial assessment and the commonalities in outcomes.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 15 cases from 2004 to 2019 of adult claimants assessed in a medico-legal practice for complex chronic pain disorders secondary to EI. Extensive biopsychosocial information, including 165 data items on pre- and post-injury observations, were collected on each. Cutaneous and deep pressure somatosensory examination was pe

In traumatized patients, Rorschach responses draw from a variety of sources, including the traumatic event itself, past and current experiences, and internal fantasy. As complex and highly condensed mental constructions, these responses often serve to reveal the meaning of the trauma in terms of the patient's prevailing personality conflicts. In many cases, this meaning may be hidden in the response's distortion of or elaboration on images drawn from the actual event.

The aim of this study is to explore psychological and mental health implications of social distancing and lockdown, in Greece in order to gain a better understanding of the COVID-19 crisis. For the purposes of this article, quantitative measures are used: the Greek versions of "Life Orientation Scale-Revised" (LOT-R) (Lyrakos, Damigos, Mavreas, Georgia, & Dimoliatis, 2010) to investigate the presence of dispositional optimism tendencies, "Impact of Event scale" (Mystakidou, Tsilika, Parpa, Galanos, & Vlahos, 2007) to assess the traumatic evaluation of the current events, "Perceived Stress Scal

This narrative review examines post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma- and stressor-related mental health disorders in elite athletes. Elite athletes may experience these disorders at higher rates than the general population owing to disproportionate exposure to traumas and stressors, which can be experienced at individual and collective levels. These disorders can be difficult to detect due to complex symptom presentations and coping strategies that may mask symptoms. They can have both psychological and somatic components, and this dual nature has significant relevance for el

Evidence indicates that post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a significant risk factor for the development and progression of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Most explanations for PTSD-CVD associations conceptualize PTSD as a stress-related mental health disorder that elicits physiological, behavioral, and psychological responses that are causal factors in the development of cardiovascular disorders. This article reviews evidence for the broader physical health consequences of PTSD, and presents a conceptual model based on research suggesting that PTSD is a systemic disorder. Specifically, r

BACKGROUND: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a debilitating mental health disorder that may develop after exposure to traumatic events. Substance use disorder (SUD) is a behavioural disorder in which the use of one or more substances is associated with heightened levels of distress, clinically significant impairment of functioning, or both. PTSD and SUD frequently occur together. The comorbidity is widely recognised as being difficult to treat and is associated with poorer treatment completion and poorer outcomes than for either condition alone. Several psychological therapies have bee

OBJECTIVE: Eating disorders (ED) are associated with a higher prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, the impact they may have on the clinical features and severity of the ED remains unknown. In this study, we assessed the prevalence and the impact of PTSD in a disordered eating population sample.
METHODS: We recruited patients with eating disorders during a period of 6 months, in 2014. The patients underwent a semistructured diagnostic interview by trained psychiatrists. The severity of eating behaviours and PTSD was assessed using the Eating Disorder Inventory 2 and th

Fifty-six refugees and asylum seekers, with and without post-traumatic stress symptoms, and their autobiographical memories about traumatic experiences were evaluated with the Harvard Trauma Questionnaire, which allows the evaluation of traumatic symptoms and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and the Phenomenological Questionnaire on Autobiographical Memory (CCFRA/ PQAM) that allows analysing the characteristics of their memories about quality, associated emotions, and memory accessibility. Results showed that 30.4% of participants met criteria for PTSD, which affects the difficulty to pu

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is usually considered a psychiatric disorder upon emotional trauma. However, with the rising number of conflicts and traffic accidents around the world, the incidence of PTSD has skyrocketed along with traumatic brain injury (TBI), a complex neuropathological disease due to external physical force and is also the most common concurrent disease of PTSD. Recently, the overlap between PTSD and TBI is increasingly attracting attention, as it has the potential to stimulate the emergence of novel treatments for both conditions. Of note, treatments exploiting the

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a common anxiety mental disorder and can be manifested after exposure to a real or perceived life-threatening event. Increased noradrenaline and adrenaline in plasma and urine have been documented in PTSD. Dopamine-β-hydroxylase (DBH) catalyzes the conversion of dopamine to noradrenaline and consequently, DBH inhibition reduces catecholamines. Our aim was to evaluate if nepicastat treatment decreases PTSD signs in an animal model. Wild-type (129x1/SvJ) female mice were submitted to PTSD induction protocol. DBH-inhibitor nepicastat (30 mg/kg) or vehicle
