[Autogynephilia].

Gender identity disorder is a sexual disorder characterized by strong identification with the opposite gender, followed by unpleasant feeling dueto the birth given gender. Longstanding clinical experience with transgender population has brought new knowledge and better understanding of gender identity and gender identity disorders. HIV risk behaviors among Mahuwahine (native Hawaiian transgender women).

This study explored HIV risk behaviors among Hawaiian and Polynesian- identified transgender women living in Hawai'i. The term transgender encompasses the experience of individuals who violate rigid binomial Western gender roles (Bockting, Robinson, & Rosser, 1998; Lombardi, Wilchins, Priesing, & Malouf, 2001; Yep & Pietri, 1999, pp. 199-200). Although traditional Polynesian cultures tolerate more gender role variations than Western culture, postcolonial acculturation has resulted in notable stigma for transgender individuals in Hawaiì today (Kameèleihiwa, 1999; Kanuha, 2000). Mahu is a cross-

Neuroradiology in Transgender Care: Facial Feminization, Laryngeal Surgery, and Beyond.

Transgender individuals experience incongruence between their gender identity and the sex assigned to them at birth. This incongruence can c … nd public acceptance. Reconstructive facial and laryngeal procedures are among the surgical options transgender persons may elect to undergo to better align their physical appearance with their gender identity. These include feminization surgeries such as facial feminization and reduction chondrolaryngoplasty, as well as masculinizing facial and laryngeal surgeries. …

[Cardiovascular health and transgender medicine].

Gender dysphoria, which describes the distress related to the incongruence between a transgender person's experienced gender and their assigned sex at birth, can be alleviated by specific treatments, notably through gender-affirming hormone therapy and surgeries. Transgender people suffer from an excess of cardiovascular and thrombotic risk, of multifactorial origin and influenced by hormonal therapies and surgeries. In this article, we describe the basis of hormonal treatments for transgender people. The associated thrombotic and cardiovascular risks are detailed, along their mechanisms. Fina

Detransition and Desistance Among Previously Trans-Identified Young Adults.

Persons who have renounced a prior transgender identification, often after some degree of social and medical transition, are increasingly visible. We recruited 78 US individuals ages 18-33 years who previously identified as transgender and had stopped identifying as transgender at least six months prior. On average, participants first identified as transgender at 17.1 years of age and had done so for 5.4 years at the time of their participation. Most (83%) participants had taken several steps toward social transition and 68% had taken at least one medical step. By retrospective reports, fewer

Health care needs and barriers to care among the transgender population: a study from western Rajasthan.

BACKGROUND: Transgender people comprise an estimated 0.3-0.5% (25 million) of the global population. The public health agenda focuses on understanding and improving the health and well-being of gender minorities. Transgender (TG) persons often have complex healthcare needs and suffer significant health disparities in multiple arenas. The international literature suggests that this community is at a higher risk of depression, and other mental health problems, including HIV. Many transgender people experience gender dysphoria and seek specific medical needs such as sex reassignment surgeries, im

Transgender training and knowledge left to chance.

Just 13% of nurses feel prepared to meet the needs of their transgender patients, according to a survey by the RCN. The UK-wide research involving more than 1,200 nursing staff found this could be due to lack of training, despite more than three quarters encountering transgender patients in their work, and 56% caring for them directly.

Efficacy, safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of long-acting injectable cabotegravir for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis in transgender women: a secondary analysis of the HPTN 083 trial.

BACKGROUND: The HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) 083 trial showed that long-acting injectable cabotegravir was more effective than tenofovir disoproxil fumarate plus emtricitabine in preventing HIV in cisgender men and transgender women who have sex with men. We aimed to characterise the cohort of transgender women included in HPTN 083. METHODS: HPTN 083 is an ongoing, phase 2b/3, randomised, multicentre, double-blind, double-dummy clinical trial done at 43 sites in seven countries (Argentina, Brazil, Peru, the USA, South Africa, Thailand, and Viet Nam). Histologic Findings in Surgical Pathology Specimens From Individuals Taking Masculinizing Hormone Therapy for the Purpose of Gender Transition.

CONTEXT.—: Transgender men and transmasculine persons experience a discordance between the female sex they were assigned at birth and their gender. They may choose to take hormone therapy and/or undergo surgery to masculinize the body. Understanding the common (and less common) histologic changes present in patients taking masculinizing hormones will empower pathologists to better serve this unique patient population. OBJECTIVE.—: To summarize histologic findings in surgical pathology specimens from persons taking masculinizing hormones as a part of gender transition. DATA SOURCES.—: A syste

Australian standards of care and treatment guidelines for transgender and gender diverse children and adolescents.

The Australian standards of care and treatment guidelines aim to maximise quality care provision to transgender and gender diverse (TGD) children and adolescents across Australia, while recognising the unique circumstances of providing such care to this population. Recommendations are made based on available empirical evidence and clinician consensus, and have been developed in consultation with Australian professionals from multiple disciplines working with the TGD population, TGD support organisations, as well as TGD children and adolescents and their families. Main recommendations: Recommen

Possible Neurobiological Underpinnings of Homosexuality and Gender Dysphoria.

Although frequently discussed in terms of sex dimorphism, the neurobiology of sexual orientation and identity is unknown. We report multimod … e matter connections and a partly reversed sex dimorphism in Cth. Similar patterns were detected in transgender persons compared with heterosexual cisgender controls, but the significant clusters disappeared when adding homosexual controls, and correcting for sexual orientation. Instead, both TrW and TrM displayed singular features, showing greater Cth as well as wea …

Undiagnosed HIV Among Transgender Women in the United States: Implications for Testing Programs.

INTRODUCTION: Transgender women experience health care barriers that can impede HIV status awareness, increasing the risk of delayed diagnosis. We sought to characterize undiagnosed HIV among transgender women in the United States. METHODS: We used data from a hybrid cohort using digital and in-person strategies for transgender women in the United States who are not living with HIV. Assessments include a sociobehavioral questionnaire and HIV testing. Using baseline screening data, we identified undiagnosed HIV among transgender women who self-reported no HIV testing history or a negative resu

A Cautionary Tale: Digital Clinical Trial Implementation of a Couples-Based HIV Prevention Study among Transgender Women and Their Partners in the United States.

This study investigates baseline differences in couples enrolled in the "It Takes Two" HIV prevention intervention for transgender women and their partners, comparing in-person participation pre-COVID-19 and digital participation during the pandemic. Among 52 couples (40% in-person, 60% digital), bivariate analyses revealed that in-person participants were more likely to be African American, have cisgender male partners, report higher unemployment, incarceration histories, greater relationship stigma, and lower relationship quality. The findings highlight the limitations of digital modalities

Social Media Use and HIV-Related Risk Behaviors in Young Black and Latino Gay and Bi Men and Transgender Individuals in New York City: Implications for Online Interventions.

Urban young men who have sex with men (YMSM) and transgender women continue to experience high rates of new HIV infections in the USA, yet most of this population is not reached by current prevention interventions. The rate of Internet and social media use among youth is high. However, continually updated understanding of the associations between social media access and use and HIV risk behaviors is needed to reach and tailor technology-delivered interventions for those most vulnerable to HIV-racially and ethnically diverse urban YMSM and transgender persons. Thus, we conducted an in-person, v…

INTRODUCTION: Transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) people’s health is a public health issue impacting a significant portion of the population. Health-related decisions are made in an artificially uncertain and contentious climate in which knowledge plays a central role. Rapid developments in the field, along with the increasing politicization of language in research, contribute to the proliferation of terms that shape and complicate bibliographic searches. METHOD: This study of the journal Santé publique focuses on publications available online since 2001 that include conte
