12 adult patients with perennial asthma and chronic skin infection were found to have immediate hypersensitivity to Trichophyton spp. 10 patients were tested by bronchial provocation and gave immediate bronchial reactions to an extract of T tonsurans. A patient treated with immunosuppressant drug therapy for a non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and who presented with a tinea corporis developed a sudden outbreak of numerous subcutaneous nodules. Deep-seated hyphae and spores were found in skin biopsy specimens. There was no evidence of keratin debris or histologic features of granulomata and giant cells. Cultures from tinea and nodules grew Trichophyton rubrum and T. verrucosum. There are no more than 60 cases of deep dermatophytosis reported in the literature.

Globalization and the introduction of exotic pets have led to the identification of new species that produce tinea in humans. Here, we report the clinical case of a 22-year-old female, who presented with a lesion on her hand that was compatible with dermatophytosis. Molecular biology methods identified the cultured fungus as Trichophyton erinacei.

We report an outbreak of Trichophyton soudanense causing tinea capitis and corporis in an orphanage in Myanmar. The thirty orphan children were suspected to have anthropophilic tinea but zoonotic tinea could not be excluded as all children were playing with stray dogs. Direct mycological examinations of hair and scalp samples showed filaments but culture assays remained sterile. We revealed T. soudanense as the infectious agent by PCR amplification of extracted fungal DNA and further sequencing of the PCR products. Majocchi's granuloma is an uncommon fungal infection of the dermis and subcutaneous tissue. BACKGROUND: Trichophyton equinum is a zoophilic dermatophyte usually causing ringworm in horses. Cases of skin infections in humans are very rare. CASE REPORT : We describe a case of tinea corporis caused by T. equinum on a buttock of a rider who often rode bareback with short trousers.
CONCLUSION: Although T. equinum was considered in the past as a strict zoophilic dermatophyte, our case report confirms that it can cause dermatophytoses also in humans. A review of epidemiological and clinical features of human infections caused by T. equinum is presented.

Dermatophytes are Fungi which infect keratinized tissues, that is, skin epidermis, hair and nails. Trichophyton violaceum is an anthropophilic, cosmopolitan dermatophyte. It primarily causes tinea capitis and less commonly tinea corporis and tinea unguium. We present a report of two cases of tinea corporis due to T. violaceum in children. Infections due to T. violaceum are important because of its transmissibility within families and community and its potential to spread and establish in new geographical areas.
