BACKGROUND: Extrapulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is a relatively rare form of tuberculosis infection, accounting for approximately 15% of all tuberculosis infections. Lymph nodes are the most commonly affected sites, while involvement of the parotid gland is extremely rare.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present the case of a 65-year-old male patient with a one-month history of a left parotid mass. The patient has a history of diabetes and long-term smoking, and a chest X-ray revealed secondary fibrotic pulmonary tuberculosis, while sputum smears were culture-negative for Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb).

Hiccups are commonly benign, self-limiting events often triggered by transient gastrointestinal or central nervous system irritants. However, when persistent, they may indicate underlying pathology involving the thoracic, gastrointestinal, or neurological systems. We report the case of a 65-year-old male smoker who presented with a 4-day history of persistent hiccups. He denied fever, chest pain, hemoptysis, or other systemic symptoms. Physical examination was largely unremarkable except for decreased air entry in the right middle and lower lung zones. Initial investigations, including gastros

BACKGROUND: The spectrum of lesions causing lower gastrointestinal hemorrhage shows marked geographic variation. The study was aimed to determine this spectrum in our region using endoscopic examination.
METHODS: 166 patients presenting with lower gastrointestinal hemorrhage were investigated using colonoscopy as the first investigation.
RESULTS: Lesions responsible for bleeding could be identified in 141 patients (84.9%). In 25 patients (15.1%), the etiology of bleed could not be determined either because of failure to identify a lesion (10 patients) or because of an incomplete examination

Gastrointestinal bleeding is a rare manifestation of intestinal tuberculosis, with massive hemorrhage from a mesenteric artery pseudoaneurysm representing an exceptionally uncommon and life-threatening complication. As illustrated by the case of a 27-year-old male with newly diagnosed HIV (CD4 count 10 cells/mm3) who presented with a 3-month history of diarrhea, fever, and significant weight loss. This led to a confirmed diagnosis of disseminated tuberculosis. On day 5 of anti-tuberculosis treatment, the patient developed massive hematochezia, and abdominal computed tomography (CT)-angiography

BACKGROUND Pulmonary cryptococcosis can be associated with various imaging findings and can occur in immunocompetent hosts. It is sometimes difficult to distinguish pulmonary cryptococcosis from pulmonary tuberculosis based on imaging findings. CASE REPORT A 34-year-old female nurse who worked in an endoscopy examination room visited our hospital because of an abnormal lung shadow. At her workplace, a gastrointestinal endoscopy had been performed on a patient with infectious tuberculosis. The nurse was asymptomatic, and acid-fast staining and culture of her sputum were negative. Chest computed

We report a case of a 61-year-old man who presented with a cough and abdominal discomfort. CT scan of the chest showed two lesions across both lungs, and an abdominal CT scan revealed multiple hypodense lesions in the spleen with cystic lesions on the splenic hilum. Upper gastrointestinal tract endoscopy found creamy yellowish discharge through a fistula between the stomach and splenic hilum. Under fluoroscopic guidance, forceps was inserted into the fistula tract, and forcep biopsy was done. The pathology was consistent with tuberculosis, and a nine-month anti-tuberculosis medication regimen

Tuberculosis is considered as ubiquitous disease as it involves any organ, but primary involvement of abdominal muscles is very rare. In most cases, the muscle involvement is secondary and is caused by either hematogenous route or direct inoculation from a tuberculous abdominal lymph node or extension from underlying tubercular synovitis and osteomyelitis. Autopsy studies have shown abdominal wall involvement in less than 1% of patients who died of tuberculosis. Antitubercular therapy is main form of management. Surgical intervention is always secondary in the form of either sonography or comp

A 26-yr-old male of Ecuadorian descent developed epigastric pain and bleeding per rectum, necessitating hospitalization. Upper endoscopy revealed an irregularly shaped gastric ulcer which was biopsied. Because of persistent bleeding and hemodynamic compromise, the patient underwent an exploratory laparotomy. Findings included peritoneal and visceral surfaces studded with small, round yellow lesions. Frozen section examination revealed granulomas with giant cells. Gastric biopsies from the endoscopy showed AFB. Although gastric involvement is seen in association with tuberculosis, the occurrenc

Actinomycosis is a form of painful abscess in the gastrointestinal tract or in deep tissue caused by actinomyces species. They are one of the commensal bacteria in the oral cavity and gastrointestinal tract of humans but can opportunistically cause infection in immunosuppressive hosts through invasion of breached mucosa or necrotic tissue while mimicking malignancy, gastrointestinal tuberculosis, and inflammatory bowel disease. Actinomyces israelii is, by far, the major and most common human pathogen throughout literatures. By virtue of rarity and diagnostic confusion with masquerading maligna

We had tuberculosis infection cases of gastrointestinal tract diagnosed histopathologically during January 1980 to December 1991 in Tokyo National Chest Hospital. There were 12 cases (male 8, female 4) from 24 y.o. to 88 y.o. (mean 50 y.o.). We got histopathological specimen by operation (6 cases), biopsy (4), and section (2). Pulmonary tuberculosis was complicated in 8 cases, 7 cases had cavity formation and another case was miliary tuberculosis. Distribution of tuberculous lesion was colon (7 cases), small intestines (5), cecum (2), rectum (1) and esophagus (1). First symptom was mainly abdo

Tuberculous persons tend to live longer, i.e. death from tuberculosis has shifted to the older age groups. Cavitating processes frequently accompany intestinal tuberculosis, but not tuberculosis of the bones and joints. Fungus infections were found in 36 of 846 post mortem examinations, in 22 cases in association with tuberculosis.

MSP is a rare and atypical form of benign granulomatous inflammation characterised by tumour-like local proliferation of spindle-shaped histiocytes containing acid-fast positive mycobacteria, which should be differentiated from neoplastic lesions. A 26-year-old Chinese man complained an intermittent and mild right lower abdominal pain for 5 months in May 2022.Histopathology of biopsy samples showed Mycobacterial spindle cell pseudotumor (MSP). The test of Mycobacterium tuberculosis detected by polymerase chain reaction using intestinal tissue slice was negative. The metagenomic next-generation

A 42-year-old man was admitted to the hospital with fever, abdominal pain and miliary radiological pattern. The amylase and lipase in serum, and the amylase in urine were increased. The tuberculin skin test was negative. The thoracic and abdominal CT scan showed costal affectation, multiple focal hepatic lesions and large necrosing peripancreatic lymphadenopathies. The transbronchial biopsy and the pancreatic punction demonstrated granulomatous necrotic lesions, and M. tuberculosis grew in the bronchial washing culture. The specific treatment normalized the pulmonary, costal and pancreatic les

Behçet's disease (BD) is a chronic and multisystem disorder characterized by recurrent oral and genital ulcers, along with ocular, cutaneous, vascular, gastrointestinal, and neurologic manifestations. The etiology is thought to involve an autoimmune response triggered by infectious or environmental factors in genetically predisposed individuals. Mycobacterium tuberculosis has been proposed as a potential trigger for BD, although this association remains rarely reported. We show a compelling case of a patient with BD diagnostic criteria who subsequently developed mediastinal tuberculous lymphad
