Recurrent multifocal primary amyloidosis of urinary bladder.

Primary localized amyloidosis of bladder is rare. We report a case of recurrence of multifocal primary amyloidosis of urinary bladder. Cystoscopy revealed a diffuse left lateral wall lesion with normal surrounding mucosa. Histopathological examination of the specimen revealed urinary bladder amyloidosis with negative surgical margins. Recurrent urinary bladder amyloidosis was confirmed 3 months after the first resection. Close follow-up is recommended.

Urinary bladder hyperreflexia: a rat animal model.

In this work, we are presenting a rat animal model for bladder hyperreflexia after suprasacral spinal cord transection. Our aim was to standardize an animal model that can be useful in studying this condition. After standardizing the animal model in a pilot study, 26 female Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to spinal cord transection at the level of T10 vertebra. Four animals were subjected to cystometrogram (CMG) 24 hr after spinalization and six rats 3 weeks post-spinalization. These CMGs were compared to that of six normal controls. The detailed description of the model presented in this m

[Spontaneous bladder rupture secondary to urinary tuberculosis].

Atraumatic spontaneous vesical fracture is an uncommon occurrence. Here we present the case of a female patient with spontaneous vesical fracture secondary to urinary tract tuberculosis. A review of current literature showed another published case similar to ours. A brief comment is made on presentation signs and symptoms and picture evolution, as well as a discussion on the predisposing factors of spontaneous vesical fracture and its treatment.

[Upper urinary tract tumors following bladder cancer].

We treated in total 795 patients with primary transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder between April, 1964 and December, 1988. Eighteen patients of them had upper urothelial cancer during the follow-up period. Thirteen of the 18 patients had received transurethral resection for the initial bladder cancer, while 3 total cystectomy and 2 segmental resection. The over-all incidence of bladder cancer patients who subsequently developed upper urinary tract tumors was 2.3 per cent. The interval between initial treatment of the bladder cancer and treatment for the upper urinary tract tumor …

Rheumatoid pseudotumor of urinary bladder simulating carcinoma.

A forty-nine-year-old female with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis was seen with hematuria and a urinary bladder lesion which on cystoscopic examination simulated carcinoma. Microscopic evaluation after segmental resection of the lesion revealed that it was a rheumatoid nodule. Rheumatoid nodules are known to occur in many parts of the body, but an extensive search of the literature has failed to reveal any previous report of urinary bladder involvement.

Does urinary bladder shape affect urinary flow rate in men with lower urinary tract symptoms?

We aimed to investigate the role of urinary bladder shape which may potentially change with advancing age, increased waist circumference, pelvic ischemia, and loosening of the urachus on bladder emptying and UFR. We retrospectively investigated the medical records of 76 men. The patients were divided into two groups according to bladder shapes in MRI scan (cone and spheric shapes). There was a significant difference between the two groups in terms of IPSS, Qmax, Qave, and waist circumference. A positive correlation has been demonstrated between mean peak urinary flow rate measured with UFM and…

Bladder carcinomas in patients with neurogenic bladder and urinary schistosomiasis: are they the same tumors?

PURPOSE: The aim of our study was to evaluate and compare the expression of different immunohistochemical markers in Bladder Carcinomas (BC) in patients with Neurogenic Bladder (NB) and Urinary Schistosomiasis (US) infection. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We collected tissue samples from patients with Neurogenic Bladder and Bladder Carcinoma (NBC Group) and from patients with Urinary Schistosomiasis infection and Bladder Carcinoma (SBC Group). We compared to these two groups to control samples from resection from patients with Urinary Schistosomiasis without Bladder Carcinoma (US Group); we also inv

Entrapment of the urinary bladder: A rare mechanism of bladder injury in pelvic trauma.

A pelvic fracture with entrapment of the urinary bladder in the fracture site is a rare pattern of injury. As the "team captains" in the trauma bay and in the care of polytraumatized patients, trauma surgeons must be aware of this entity and its implications. We report a case of acute bladder entrapment in the fracture site of a lateral compression pelvic fracture. A review of the English literature yielded four previous reports, including two patients with delayed diagnosis (Ghuman et al., 2014; Kumar et al., 1980; Wright and Taitsman, 1996; Min et al., 2010 [1-4]). Kumar and colleagues first…

Patient with inguinal hernia containing the urinary bladder complicated by bladder stones.

INTRODUCTION: We encountered a patient in whom bladder inguinal hernia complicated by bladder stones was incidentally diagnosed. Bladder inguinal hernia containing stones in the prolapsed bladder is rare and only two cases have been reported. CASE PRESENTATION: The patient was an 82-year-old male in whom ascending colon cancer and inguinal hernia containing the urinary bladder were diagnosed based on abdominal computed tomography performed to examine anemia. The urinary bladder contained several small stones. Radical surgery for the hernia and lithotripsy of the urinary bladder were concomita…

Non-Functional Paraganglioma of the Urinary Bladder: A Rare Cause of Bladder Tumor.

INTRODUCTION: Paragangliomas of the urinary bladder (PUBs) are rare neuroendocrine tumors, representing less than 0.06% of all bladder neoplasms. While most are functional and associated with catecholamine excess, approximately 15% are non-functional, often presenting asymptomatically and discovered incidentally. Due to their rarity, standardized management guidelines are lacking. CASE PRESENTATION: We report a 57-year-old female evaluated for ureterolithiasis who was incidentally found to have a 1.5 cm posterior bladder lesion. Biopsy confirmed paraganglioma. Functional studies, including pl…

Müllerianosis of the urinary bladder may simulate a bladder cancer: a case report.

Müllerianosis is an extremely rare entity consisting of an admixture of 2 or more müllerian tissues. We report the case of a 61 years old woman who came to our attention with hypogastric pain and dysuria. She was in menopause and had a previous history of cesarean section. Ultrasound and CT-scan of the abdomen showed a proliferative bladder lesion close to the left ureteric orifice. Transurethral resection of the bladder (TUR-B) was performed. Histopathological examination of the specimens was negative for bladder cancer and revealed the presence of endosalpingeal tissue. Postoperative course

Association of bladder sensation measures and bladder diary in patients with urinary incontinence.

INTRODUCTION: Investigation suggests the involvement of afferent actions in the pathophysiology of urinary incontinence. Current diagnostic modalities do not allow for the accurate identification of sensory dysfunction. We previously reported urodynamic derivatives that may be useful in assessing bladder sensation. We sought to further investigate these derivatives by assessing for a relationship with 3-day bladder diary. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Subset analysis was performed in patients without stress urinary incontinence (SUI) attempting to isolate patients with urgency symptoms. RESULTS: No

Bladder augmentation and urinary diversion in patients with neurogenic bladder: surgical considerations.

In patients with a neurogenic bladder, the primary goal is preservation of renal function and prevention of urinary tract infection, with urinary continence as the secondary goal. After failure of conservative treatment (clean intermittent catheterisation and pharmacotherapy) urinary diversion should be considered. In this review, the surgical options with their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. In patients with a hyper-reflexive, small-capacity and/or low-compliance bladder with normal upper urinary tract, bladder augmentation (bowel segments/ureter) is an option. To those who are u

Nocturnal bladder emptying for reversing urinary tract deterioration due to neurogenic bladder.

Although daytime clean intermittent catheterization with urotropic medications is often sufficient therapy to relieve urinary retention and elevated intravesical pressures, neglecting the bladder affected by neuropathy or other significant pathologies during sleeping hours can lead to overdistension of the bladder and its deleterious consequences. The effect of this seemingly inconsequential clean intermittent catheterization interlude for some patients on an ideal daytime-only management protocol can lead to a syndrome of nighttime overdistension of the bladder, which can result in recurrent
