Hypercalciuria associated with pediatric prostatic calculi.

Prostatic calculi, though common in adult men, are rare in children. We report three cases of pediatric prostatic calculi seen at our clinic that were associated with hypercalciuria and elevated urinary calcium/creatinine ratios. The patients had no symptoms from their prostatic calcification, but one patient had recurrent symptomatic renal calculi. In patients with prostatic calculi, determination of spot urine calcium/creatinine ratios is recommended. If significant hypercalciuria is found, treatment to prevent upper urinary tract calculi may be considered.

Pelvic lipomatosis with ureteral calculi managed by flexible ureteroscopy: A case report.

RATIONALE: Pelvic lipomatosis (PL) is a benign disease characterized by overgrowth of adipose tissue in pelvic space. Hydronephrosis and ureterectasis are common complications caused by PL in urinary system. But PL accompanied with upper urinary tract calculi is rare. Also there has been no report of PL with ureteral calculi managed by flexible ureteroscopy (fURS). PATIENT CONCERNS: A 62-year-old man who has been diagnosed of PL was found to have a right-side ureteral calculi by ultrasound in the routine health examination. In addition, the patient has a history of open surgery of uretero-ves

Jackstone calculus within a renal cyst.

Jackstone Calculi are rare stones of the urinary tract that have a distinct morphology, that of a child's toy jack. They have typically been found in the bladder, and there have been a few reported cases of Jackstone Calculi found in the renal pelvis or calyx. We present the first reported case of a Jackstone Calculi found within a renal cyst on computed tomography in a patient who presented with unilateral left upper quadrant abdominal pain. It is important to recognize these stones and further understand that their formation is not limited to the bladder and instead, they can be found in any

[Urolithiasis].

Epidemiologic investigation did not show any special environmental combination causing urinary calculi creation. The disease concerns usually people between 25-50 year old. Most of the urinary calculi are compound of calcium oxalate and phosphate. In contaminated urine more often ammonia-magnesium phosphate. General constitutional factors having influence on urinary stones creation are specific gravidity, crystallization inhibiting factors concentration, hypercalcuria, urine acidity, hyperoxaluria and urinary tract infection. Unilateral, single urine stone is usually the effect of the local fa…

[In situ dissolution of uric acid obstructive calculi].

The dissolution of uric acid calculi can be obtained by per os or parenteral alkalinization, but this method cannot be used in case of obstructive calculi. With 3 patients, whose urinary tract was obstructed by a radio-transparent calculi at the pyelo-ureteral junction, the ureteral probe setting by endoscopic way permitted to realize the in situ alkalinization. After 5 to 11 days of treatment, the calculi have been completely dissolved. A patient also presented a slightly radio-opaque lithiasis, but it remained still. The in situ alkalinization is an effective and non invasive treatment in ca

Splenic rupture following ESWL for a pancreatic duct calculus.

Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is an established and extensively used treatment alternative for urinary calculi. It is also an established method of dealing with pancreatic duct calculi complementing endoscopic techniques in selected cases. Three reports of splenic injury following and probably caused by ESWL for urinary calculi have previously been published. We report a case of splenic rupture presenting with life-threatening hemorrhage 6 days after a single ESWL therapy session for pancreatic duct calculi.

The role of MMP-7 protein structure and PTH gene polymorphism in the clinical treatment of urinary tract stones: The influence of protein expression and serum calcium molecule concentration.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

The formation mechanism of urinary stones is complex and involves many genetic and environmental factors. The purpose of this study was to investigate the structure of MMP-7 protein and its role in the formation of urinary calculi, and to analyze the influence of PTH gene polymorphism on the clinical treatment of urinary calculi. The specific region of PTH gene was amplified by PCR (polymerase chain reaction), and the gene polymorphism was detected by restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis (RFLP). Then Western blot was used to detect the difference in the expression of MMP-7 protein…

Impacted urethral calculus discovered on pelvic ultrasound: a case report.

Most urinary tract calculi are formed in the upper urinary tract while urethral calculi are uncommon. In young men, lower urinary tract symptoms are often due to infections and are treated with antibiotics, but unusual causes may be overlooked. We present a case of an impacted urethral calculus in an otherwise healthy young male who presented with several months of lower urinary tract symptoms.

[Unenhanced spiral CT in urolithiasis: indication, performance and interpretation].

Unenhanced spiral computed tomography is now applied in the investigation of patients with acute flank pain to search for suspected urinary tract calculi. Spiral CT can depict urinary calculi more accurately than plain radiographs, sonography or excretory urography, and can be performed using a low dose protocol. Almost all urinary calculi, including calculi composed of uric acid, xanthine and cystine, can be detected. In addition to determining size and location of the stone, unenhanced helical CT can predict its composition. Furthermore, it reveals secondary signs of obstruction, such as dil…

Outcomes of urethral calculi patients in an endemic region and an undiagnosed primary fossa navicularis calculus.

Urethral calculus is a rare form of urolithiasis with an incidence lower than 0.3%. We determined the outcomes of 15 patients with urethral stone, of which 8 were pediatric, including an undiagnosed primary fossa navicularis calculus. Fifteen consecutive male patients, of whom eight were children, with urethral calculi were assessed between 2000 and 2005 with a mean of 19 months' follow-up. All stones were fusiform in shape and solitary. Acute urinary retention, interrupted or weak stream, pain (penile, urethral, perineal) and gross hematuria were the main presenting symptoms in 7 (46.7%), 4 (

[Clinical studies on the recurrence of urolithiasis (5). Diurnal variation in urinary pH and stone compositions].

Correlation of the composition of the urinary calculi with urine pH, especially of diurnal variation, and composition of urinary excretion was studied. Urine pH in the patients with uric acid stones was constantly low and urinary pH in the patients with apatite and struvite stones was always high. Diurnal variation was not observed. In patients with pure calcium oxalate stones, however, urinary pH was low in the early morning, increased during the daytime, and was lowered at night. In the patients with mixed calcium oxalate-phosphate stones, a similar diurnal variation in urinary pH was found,…

[Modern conservative (citrate) therapy for urate calculi in the ureters].

The results of conservative citrate therapy of 35 patients with urate calculi in ureter are presented. Due to the violation of the passage of urine in the upper urinary tract, the vast majority of patients (31 (88%)) underwent ureteral stenting to restore adequate flow of urine before treatment. In four patients, drainage of the upper urinary tract was not required. Citrate therapy allowed to achieve complete dissolution of calculi within 2 months in 25 (72%) patients. Another 14% of patients were able to reduce the size of the calculi, and in combination with contact ureterolithotripsy achiev

Complication with mechanical stapling device in creation of ileoconduit.

Of 296 patients with pelvic malignancy and ileal urinary conduits, urinary tract calculi developed in 14. Calculi which ordinarily require surgical intervention because of their size may pass spontaneously in patients with ileoconduits because of the presence of a chronically dilated colllecting system and the surgical elimination of three of the four sites of stone impaction (pelvic brim, ureterovesical junction, and ureteral orifice). In 1 patient multiple calculi developed around the surgical staples used to create the proximal end of the ileal conduit. We recommend that autosuture with sta
