[Myringoplasty and its effect on a vestibular function in patients with otitis media purulenta chronica (OMPC)].

A complex vestibulologic and audiologic examination was made in 25 patients with OMPC free of mesotympanitis before and after experimental myringoplasty with hen's egg amnion. The patients were divided into two groups depending on the presence of vestibular complaints. Partial or complete disappearance of subjective vestibular symptoms, reduced stimulation of the vestibular receptors (by 19%, on the average) were detected by experimental vestibular tests on the side of the affected ear. The asymmetry coefficient by labyrinth lowered by 31.1%, on the average.

Symptoms, Audiometric and Vestibular Laboratory Findings, and Imaging in a Concurrent Superior Canal Dehiscence Syndrome and Vestibular Schwannoma: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Dizziness is a common complaint that can arise from multiple systems in the body. Objective vestibular tests are used to understand the underlying function of the vestibular system and whether or not it may be contributing to the dizziness symptoms experienced by the patient. Even when comprehensive case history is consistent with an otologic etiology, audiometric and vestibular tests are ordered to objectively characterize inner ear function to help further refine the differential diagnoses and aid in guiding treatment options. Few reports in the literature describe audiometric an

Uncoupling VOR and vestibuloautonomic retention to Coriolis acceleration training in student pilots and control subjects.

PURPOSE: Explore the different vestibular physiologic response retention patterns after Coriolis acceleration training in student pilots and extend the results for use with Chinese astronauts in the future. METHODS: Twelve healthy control male subjects were screened from males familiar with vestibular training and who physically resembled the astronauts. Fourteen student pilots were selected from 23 participants by rotational vestibular function tests. All subjects were exposed to five-day continuous or intermittent Coriolis acceleration training. Subjective motion sickness (MS) symptom score…

Vestibular Dysfunction in Euthyroid Children with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.

A relationship exists between autoimmune thyroid disorders and vestibular dysfunction. This study aimed to analyze cervicalevoked myogenic potentials (cVEMP) and video head impulse test (vHIT) results between children with Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) and healthy controls to determine vestibular end-organ problems. Thirty-six children with HT and 30 healthy subjects were recruited. The main inclusion criteria for the healthy group were the presence of normal thyroid function and no clinical history of vestibular problems. Each participant (both HT and healthy groups) was assessed using audiovest

Presbyvestibulopathy: Diagnostic criteria Consensus document of the classification committee of the Bárány Society.

This paper describes the diagnostic criteria for presbyvestibulopathy (PVP) by the Classification Committee of the Bárány Society. PVP is defined as a chronic vestibular syndrome characterized by unsteadiness, gait disturbance, and/or recurrent falls in the presence of mild bilateral vestibular deficits, with findings on laboratory tests that are between normal values and thresholds established for bilateral vestibulopathy. The diagnosis of PVP is based on the patient history, bedside examination and laboratory evaluation. The diagnosis of PVP requires bilaterally reduced function of the vestib

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. State of the art.

This paper defines the benign paroxysmal vertigo (BPV). It recalls the ethiopathogeny of the syndrome and describes the different types of BPV and their treatment by "liberatory maneuvers". The paper also discusses the need for an otoneurological examination to achieve an exact diagnosis.

Translation and Tilt Perceptual Thresholds Are Elevated in Meniere's Disease Compared With Vestibular Migraine.

OBJECTIVES: The clinical differentiation of two common vestibular disorders, Meniere's disease (MD) and vestibular migraine (VM), remains challenging and is based on criteria provided by expert panels rather than the results of diagnostic tests. We therefore investigated the hypothesis that perceptual thresholds for passive motions that activate the inner ear vestibular sensors (canals, otolith organs) can be used to improve the clinical differentiation of MD and VM. DESIGN: Self-motion perceptual thresholds were measured in MD and VM patients using a multiaxis motion platform during movement

Audiological and vestibular findings in the Kabuki syndrome.

Since the first description of Kabuki syndrome (KS) in 1981, over 350 cases from a variety of countries have been reported. Even though otolaryngological manifestations are common in KS, only a limited number of the reports provide audiological and vestibular data. The aim of the present study was to investigate the vestibular function and describe the audiological findings in KS. The present study reports no audiological and vestibular features in a group of 10 KS patients (7 males, 3 females), with chronological age ranging from 10 to 25 years (mean age = 14.5): a complete otoneurological an

Vestibular "PREHAB".

A sudden unilateral loss or impairment of vestibular function causes vertigo, dizziness, and impaired postural function. In most occasions, everyday activities supported or not by vestibular rehabilitation programs will promote a compensation and the symptoms subside. As the compensatory process requires sensory input, matching performed motor activity, both motor learning of exercises and matching to sensory input are required. If there is a simultaneous cerebellar lesion caused by the tumor or the surgery of the posterior cranial fossa, there may be a risk of a combined vestibulocerebellar l

Gravitational change-induced alteration of the vestibular function and gene expression in the vestibular ganglion of mice.

Gravity has profoundly influenced life on Earth, yet how organisms adapt to changes in gravity remains largely unknown. This study examines vestibular plasticity, specifically how the vestibular system responds to altered gravity. We subjected male C57BL/6J mice to hypergravity (2 G) followed by normal gravity (1 G) to analyze changes in vestibular function and gene expression. Mice showed significant vestibular dysfunction, assessed by righting reflex tests, which persisted for days but reversed at 1 G after exposure to 2 G. Gene expression analysis in the vestibular ganglion identified signi

Ocular Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential Response Patterns for Characterizing Vestibular Dysfunction in Peripheral Vestibular Disorders.

Ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potential (oVEMP) testing provides electrophysiological information on otolithic and superior vestibular pathway function, but its clinical interpretation often remains limited to a binary normal-or-abnormal judgment. This study developed and applied a structured oVEMP response-pattern protocol, together with an exploratory, study-specific composite abnormality-burden grade, to characterize vestibular dysfunction in patients with peripheral vestibular disorders. From February 2024 to December 2025, 110 adults with Ménière's disease, benign paroxysmal positiona

[Preoperative vestibular diagnosis in therapy of Menière's disease].

Surgical treatment of Meniere's disease is indicated in patients with severe attacks who have failed drug therapy. A decision between a conservative or destructive procedure demands firstly exclusion of patients with non-otogenic diseases, bilateral disease or complete unilateral loss of function, and secondly assessment of the laterality of the disease, of residual labyrinthic function and of vestibular compensation. A total of 185 patients with Meniere's disease were investigated. All of them had a history and clinical signs that indicated surgery. Canal function, otolith responses and vesti

Ménière's disease treatment: a patient-centered systematic review.

Ménière's disease is a disorder of the inner ear affecting hearing and balance to a varying degree. It is characterized by episodes of vertigo, low-pitched tinnitus, and hearing loss. There is currently no gold standard treatment for Ménière's disease. We conducted a systematic search of the Cochrane Database, as a high-quality source of evidence-based therapies, for reviews on the efficacy of etiological therapy or on Ménière's disease or its symptoms. Following recent positive experiences reported by other research teams, we decided to involve a patients' representative in the assessment and
