PURPOSE: Convergence insufficiency, the most common binocular vision anomaly, is characterised by a receded near point of convergence and an exophoria which is at least 4 prism dioptres (Δ) larger at near than at distance. However, the repeatability of standard heterophoria measures are poorly understood. This study assessed the ability of four common heterophoria tests to detect differences of 4Δ by evaluating the inter- and intra-examiner variability of the selected techniques.

We examined the binocular vision of 14 patients with esotropia under a dynamic background. There are four classic types of visual field defects. Altitudinal field defects in which the defect is present above or below the horizontal midline are usually associated with ocular abnormalities. A central scotoma is characteristic of optic nerve disease of macular disease. A bitemporal hemianopia signifies optic chiasm disease and is most frequently associated with pituitary tumors. With homonymous hemianopia, the same portion of the field is absent in both eyes, and is found with lesions behind the chiasm.

Deaf patients depend on intermediate vision for interpersonal communication. Deaf presbyopes are at a particular disadvantage since they are usually corrected for near and far vision with bifocals without consideration of their intermediate vision. Peekaboo Vision is an iPad grating acuity app built with typically developing children in mind. Given the ease of using this app in the pediatric age group, this study determined its clinical utility in children with Down syndrome. Clinical, ophthalmoscopic, perimetric, and color vision tests and visual evoked responses were recorded in symptomatic and asymptomatic eyes in five members of a family with Leber hereditary optic atrophy. This report details the chronology of vision loss for an 18-year-old Caucasian male with Leber's optic neuropathy. Findings of an oculo-visual assessment with auxiliary in-office tests of visual neural function, results of neurophysiological testing, and rehabilitative therapy with low vision aids are presented. The clinical characteristics of this devastating disorder are reviewed.

A literature review reveals old references to an association between migraine headache and binocular vision anomalies, but a lack of scientific evidence evaluating these claims. In a masked case control study, we investigated binocular vision using standard clinical tests in people with migraine and in controls. Some research reports suggest that visual anomalies may have a causative role in dyslexia, and on this basis certain forms of therapy have been proposed. Recently, we have published the initial results of a matched group study which found dyslexia to be associated with binocular instability, reduced amplitude of accommodation, and reduced contrast sensitivity for both low spatial frequencies and uniform field flicker.
