The purpose of this study was to compare gait pattern and energy consumption in children with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy, when using anterior and posterior walkers, and to determine which walker should be recommended as a walking aid for these children. Ten spastic diplegic cerebral palsied children, of average age 9 years, were enrolled in this study. Before assessment, they had all received a practice period of 1-month to familiarize themselves with both types of walker. Gait characteristics were evaluated by computer-based kinematic gait analysis using Vicon 370 Motion Analysis, and en…

This study reports the first complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Neomyia gavisa. The mitochondrial genome is 16,205 bp in length, with an A + T content of 78.5%. The genome contains 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, 2 rRNA genes, and a control region. All PCGs start with ATN except cox1 (TCG). Bayesian inference analyses indicate that Neomyia is closely related to Eudasyphora, and that the tribe Stomoxyini is nested within Muscini. The present mitogenome expands taxon sampling within Muscidae and provides a valuable molecular resource for the reconstruction of evolutionary

Eupolyphaga sinensis Walker is an important animal-derived medicinal material, yet the analytical evidence supporting its authentication and quality control has not been critically mapped across method classes. This scoping review, reported with reference to the PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR), maps methods used for Eupolyphaga sinensis Walker, related or confounding materials, processed products, and exuviae, and distinguishes exploratory proof-of-concept studies from approaches with stronger validation. PubMed, Web of Science, CNKI, Wanfang, and VIP were searched for releva

BACKGROUND: The increasing digitalization of everyday life means that digital artifacts persist after death, presenting unique and complex challenges in palliative care. Lacking clear conceptualization, digital legacy raises clinical, ethical, and legal uncertainties. Conceptual clarity is crucial to support palliative care teams in addressing digital legacy issues at the end of life.
AIM: To examine and clarify the concept of digital legacy in palliative care.
DESIGN: A concept analysis was conducted using Walker and Avant's eight-step method.
DATA SOURCES: Seven electronic databases (CINA

DNA walkers, a key component of nanorobots, require precise movement control for applications in nanoscale transport and sensing. While biological tracks are widely used in experiments, recent proof-of-principle studies suggest that nanopore-based tracks offer a promising alternative for stepwise motion of the walkers. This study employs Langevin dynamics simulations to investigate the autonomous walking mechanism of a two-legged DNA walker on a track with positively charged nanopores. In addition to the forward motion of the stepping leg from one nanopore to another, a complete step also incl…

Specific Na+ imaging within cancer cells is of great significance for understanding their physiological state and malignant progression. Despite great success, Na+ imaging methods often face challenges related to specificity and sensitivity. Herein, we designed a fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO)-activated DNA walker for the specific imaging of metal ions in cancer cells. Abnormal FTO expression in cancer cells provides high specificity, while the self-amplification mechanism of the DNA walker provides high sensitivity.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Cast walkers (CWs) are often prescribed to offload diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs). However, their mass, the degree of ankle immobilization and the limb length discrepancy they induce may increase the energetic demands of walking, contributing to lower adherence and poorer healing. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of different commercially available CW options on the metabolic costs and perceived exertion of walking, and on related spatiotemporal kinematics, in healthy young participants as an initial step to understanding factors that impact adherence i…

Dandy-Walker spectrum disorder (DWSD) is a congenital abnormality of the brain, consisting typically of partial or complete hypoplasia of the cerebellar vermis, cystic dilation of the fourth ventricle, and enlargement of the posterior fossa. Approximately 1 in 10,000 to 30,000 live births is affected by this typically early-onset neurological condition, which commonly presents with hydrocephalus, irritability, and poor motor coordination. Usually, the diagnosis is confirmed by anatomic features typical of computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Management has been largely hydr

UNLABELLED: Dandy-Walker malformation is a relatively uncommon abnormality known as cerebellar dysgenesis. This condition is characterized by cerebellar vermis hypoplasia, an upwardly rotated and malrotated vermis, an enlarged fourth ventricle, and an enlarged posterior fossa. This syndrome is thought to affect roughly one in every 35000 live births. Here we present a case of a preterm male of 33 + 4 weeks period of gestation who presented to us with a posterior midline cystic swelling at the occipital neck region. While there was no bruit in the transillumination of the cyst, there was a brui

INTRODUCTION: Dandy-Walker malformation (DWM) is a rare congenital anomaly of the posterior fossa characterized by vermian hypoplasia, cystic dilation of the fourth ventricle, and hydrocephalus. Occipital encephalocele, a neural tube defect involving herniation of meninges and brain tissue, is an uncommon association with DWM, occurring in less than 5 % of cases. The coexistence of these anomalies presents significant diagnostic and management challenges.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of a one-month-old female infant of Pakistani origin who presented with a large occipital cystic swel

The prominent retrocerebellar cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) space can be frequently encountered on paediatric neuroimaging studies. In cases involving abnormal vermian development where imaging does not align with the established criteria of Dandy-Walker malformation (DWM), the term "Dandy-Walker variant or continuum" has been historically employed to describe the aberrant posterior fossa development. Instead, the emphasis is on a more elaborate description of the findings in the posterior fossa. Moreover, combining the findings in the supratentorial brain can occasionally predict certain neurogen

INTRODUCTION: Occipital encephalocele is a brain malformation that has been remotely associated with Dandy-Walker; only case reports and very small series have been published so far; therefore, their behavior and management are still under investigation. The goal of the present case-based review is to provide a summary of the state of the art in this association.
METHODS AND RESULTS: The pertinent literature has been reviewed, and an exemplary case has been reported (an 11-month-old female with Dandy-Walker malformation and occipital encephalocele). So far, 33 cases have been described, with

Dandy-Walker malformation (DWM) and Cerebellar vermis hypoplasia (CVH) are commonly recognized human cerebellar malformations diagnosed following ultrasound and antenatal or postnatal MRI. Specific radiological criteria are used to distinguish them, yet little is known about their differential developmental disease mechanisms. We acquired prenatal cases diagnosed as DWM and CVH and studied cerebellar morphobiometry followed by histological and immunohistochemical analyses. This was supplemented by laser capture microdissection and RNA-sequencing of the cerebellar rhombic lip, a transient proge

BACKGROUND: Kabuki syndrome (KS) is a rare congenital condition with cardinal manifestations of typical facial features, developmental delays, skeletal anomalies, abnormal dermatoglyphic presentations, and mild to moderate intellectual disability. Pathogenic variants in two epigenetic modifier genes, KMT2D and KDM6A, are responsible for KS1 and KS2, respectively.
CASE PRESENTATION: A Chinese girl had persistent neonatal hypoglycemia and Dandy-Walker variant. Whole-exome sequencing identified a novel single nucleotide deletion in KMT2D (NM_003482.3 c.12165del p.(Glu4056Serfs*10)) that caused f
