PURPOSE: This prospective clinical study evaluated an experimental custom-made zirconia abutment with respect to peri-implant hard and soft tissue reaction in narrow implants.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients were treated with prefabricated titanium implants and custom-made zirconia abutments. All-ceramic crowns were fabricated and cemented with resin cement. Clinical parameters such as Plaque Index, Sulcus Bleeding Index, peri-implant probing depth, and radiographic marginal bone loss levels were recorded, along with any biologic and mechanical complications, at baseline and up to 5 years.

Tracheal replacement has been a challenging problem for thoracic surgeons for over half of a century. We evaluated the in-vivo performance of a new tracheal bioprosthesis derived from Harp seal (Phoca groelandica) trachea that was fixed and preserved in 0.625% buffered glutaraldehyde solution for 3 months. After the intracranial application of microfibrillar collagen hemostat (Avitene), CT revealed contrast enhancement suggestive of brain abscess or residual or recurrent tumor in three patients. PURPOSE: Spinal epidural fibrosis and adhesion are implicated as one of the key factors of failed back surgery syndrome, which may cause dura mater compression or peridural tethering, resulting in persistent backache and leg pain. Various materials or drugs have been used to inhibit formation of epidural fibrosis and reduce the compressive effect on neural structures. Nevertheless, the effects are not satisfied. We present here the case of a 40-year-old woman with a greater than 10 year prior history of bilateral breast silicone injection and saline bag implantation. Bilateral palpable breast nodules were observed, but the ultrasound scan was suboptimal and the magnetic resonance imaging showed no gadolinium-enhanced tumor. The (18)F-FDG PET/CT scan showed a hypermetabolic nodule in the left breast with a 30% increase of (18)F-FDG uptake on the delayed imaging, and this mimicked breast cancer. She underwent a left partial mastectomy and the pathology demonstrated a siliconoma.

BACKGROUND: Frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) is an acquired scarring alopecia currently considered a clinical variant of lichen planopilaris (LPP). Our purpose was to examine the clinicopathological features of FFA. In addition, we investigated the similarities and differences between FFA and LPP.
