Dobutamine (DBT) is a sympathomimetic amine drug that was designed as an inotropic agent for use in congestive heart failure. Hence, there was an impetus to develop a rapid and accurate method for monitoring the concentration of DBT within clinical samples. INTRODUCTION: Radiolabeling of a monoclonal antibody (mAb) with a metallic radionuclide requires the conjugation of a bifunctional chelator to the mAb. The conjugation, however, can alter the physical and immunological properties of the mAb, consequently affecting its tumor-targeting pharmacokinetics. The pathophysiology of brain damage induced by severe hypoglycemia is still unknown. We experienced a case with type 1 diabetes and recurrent severe hypoglycemic coma who showed a central brain atrophy and an abnormal cerebrospinal fluid flow, suggesting normal pressure hydrocephalus. Studies with In-111 platelets were conducted to evaluate pulmonary embolus, deep vein thrombus and cardiac thrombus. AIM: This study compares the diagnostic value of 111In-Octreotide- and 123I-MIBG scintigraphy in the diagnostic imaging of carcinoids and correlates the results with CT findings.
METHODS: Twenty-eight patients underwent octreotide-, MIBG scintigraphy and CT examination within a short time period.
RESULTS: In 13/15 preoperatively examined patients somatostatin receptor expression of the tumor was demonstrated; MIBG-uptake was found in 8/15 cases. Octreotide and MIBG scintigraphy revealed liver metastases in 26 and 19 cases, respectively. CT-examinations detected liver metastases in 22 cases.

A 4-month-old infant suffering from Stage IVs neuroblastoma (NB IVs; Pepper's syndrome) was repeatedly examined by I-123 MIBG and somatostatin analog in-111 pentetreotide (SMS) scintigraphy, during a 2-year period. Treatment was restricted to surgery of the primary tumor. Scintigraphy with a radiolabelled somatostatin analog represents a new highly specific approach in the diagnostic work-up of receptor-positive APUD tumours and their metastases. We present our preliminary results with somatostatin receptor scintigraphy in 15 patients with histologically proven midgut carcinoid. 5 out of 6 primary tumour sites (83%) and 90% of the known metastatic lesions could be detected; unknown metastatic lesions were seen in 5 patients.
