This was the first multicenter, cross-sectional survey to assess the prevalence of anemia, patient awareness, and treatment status in China. Data of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD; age, 18-75 years; both out- and inpatients) from 25 hospitals in Shanghai, seeking medical treatment at the nephrology department, were collected between July 1, 2012 and August 31, 2012. The prevalence, awareness, and treatment of anemia in patients with nondialysis CKD (ND-CKD) were assessed. Anemia was defined as serum hemoglobin (Hb) levels ≤12 g/dL in women and ≤13 g/dL in men. BACKGROUND: Proliferative glomerulonephritis with monoclonal immunoglobulin deposits (PGNMID) is an exceptionally rare glomerular disease, accounting for only 0.17-3.7% of all renal biopsies, and no consensus-based treatment algo-rithm has been established. Although daratumumab, a humanized anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody, has shown promising efficacy in PGNMID, the existing evidence is limited to small case series using standard-dose regimens (16 mg/kg). Critically, data on reduced-dose daratumumab in elderly patients with CyBorD-refractory disease and multiple comorbidities remain scarce. This

Expanded haemodialysis (HDx) has emerged as a promising solution to improve haemodialysis effectiveness. A medium cut-off membrane allows the removal of a wider range of uraemic toxins. However, little is known about the potential interesting applications of HDx therapy. Feedback from the first routine use of HDx therapy under real-life conditions in European facilities was excellent for priming and rinse back. There was no adverse event after 5191 HDx treatments. Patients suffering from itching, restless legs syndrome, persistent asthenia or malnourishment could benefit from HDx therapy. More

Acute kidney injury (AKI), either of pre-renal, renal or post-renal origin, is an important complication in cancer patients, resulting in worse prognosis, withdrawal from effective oncological treatments, longer hospitalizations and increased costs. Uremia has been associated with slowed intestinal motility, resulting in loss of peristalsis and the development of paralytic ileus. We present a case of uremia-induced paralytic ileus in a 70-year-old woman. The patient was admitted with a 7-day history of abdominal pain, vomiting, and constipation. Initial evaluation revealed a soft non-tender abdomen with decreased bowel sounds. Urgent ultrasonography showed dilated gut loops and sluggish gut motility, while atrophic kidneys with hydronephrosis were also appreciated. Non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) has a less severe ratio of acute coronary syndromes compared with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), arising from complete occlusion of a major coronary artery. The name implies a syndrome that does not exhibit the dramatic ST-elevation seen in the traditional 12-lead ECG in chest pain patients with a confirmed diagnosis of STEMI. The crucial clinical significance of NSTEMI is that delay in diagnosis can lead to increased morbidity, risk of arrhythmia, and death.
