Inflammatory pseudotumour is a rare pathologic lesion, of unknown aetiology, rarely involving the liver. Resection seems to be the treatment of choice and it is generally associated with a good prognosis. Histologically, these processes appear to be benign, nevertheless, aggressive courses or recurrences of inflammatory pseudotumour with tumor-like deaths have been reported. Excavated lesions of small intestine are rare and generally of a malignant nature, the must frequent cause being metastases. In Tunisia these lesions are usually the aneurysmal type of lymphoma. The etiology in a series of four cases of excavated lesion of small intestine was not always lymphomatous. Radiologic and ultrasound semeiology are outlined and etiologies discussed. Scan images are not available since whole-body scanners are not in use in Tunisia.

One of 3 patients with peiomyosarcomas of the epididymis and spermatic cord treated by inguinal orchietomy was cured, 1 died 18 months after diagnosis and 1 was living but had a pulmonary metastasis 4 years after excision of the primary tumor. All 3 patients with leiomyoma of the testicular adnexa were cured. The literature concerning smooth muscle tumors of the adnexa is reviewed.

BACKGROUND: More than 40 years ago, patients with tumors infiltrating the confluence of the hepatic veins were deemed unresectable; however, in situ hypothermic perfusion, first described by Fortner et al. (Ann Surg 180(4):644-652, 1974), allowed resection of these tumors. In order to prevent liver ischemia after total vascular exclusion, the liver was flushed with a cooled organ preservation solution. The surgeon was able to resect the tumor and reconstruct the hepatic veins with occlusion of the hepatic inflow and outflow.

Male breast carcinoma is uncommon and accounts for less than 1% of all cases of breast carcinoma. Soft tissue sarcomas also occur infrequently and cause less than 1% of all cancer related deaths. We report a case of breast carcinoma and soft tissue sarcoma occurring simultaneously in a 34-year-old male with a family history of gastrointestinal neoplasia suggestive of Cancer Family Syndrome. Features, diagnosis and management of this syndrome are reviewed.

Sixteen women with clinically diagnosed uterine masses were studied by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Pelvic study was carried out in the coronal, sagittal and axial planes. Uterine leiomyomas were detected in 12 cases, while the remaining cases were one each of uterine sarcoma, invasive molar pregnancy, cervical malignancy with pyometra and haematometra with congenital cervical stenosis. The uterine origin of the masses could be clearly detected in all patients, as well as the nature of the masses, the presence of degenerative or malignant changes and the nature of the intrauterine fluid.

Five patients with sarcomas of the spermatic cord were imaged with sonography and/or computed tomography (CT). The former modality is most helpful in demonstrating the extratesticular origin of the mass and evaluating its scrotal extension for local staging. The authors assess the efficacy of CT of the pancreas in a series of 151 patients with suspected pancreatic carcinoma. CT diagnoses were divided into four categories based on the original interpretation: "mass" or carcinoma (53 scans); normal pancreas (68 scans); normal pancreas, but another pathologic process was discovered on the CT scan (20 scans); and unsatisfactory or indeterminate examinations (10 scans). Normally, in the sagittal projection, the descending duodenum is situated to the right of the spine. There is a great range of variation in its position, so that a slight medial displacement by an enlarged liver or a mass adjacent to the latter cannot be diagnosed unless either an extrinsic pressure effect is demonstrated or a previous study is available for comparison. On a single study, displacement of the duodenum by an enlarged liver is suspected whenever the descending duodenum overlies the spine. This position is more indicative of displacement in sthenic than in asthenic individuals.
