Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease complicated with brachial plexus neuritis in a young woman: a case report and review of the literature.

BACKGROUND: Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD) is a rare necrotizing lymphadenitis. Brachial plexus neuritis is an exceptionally rare complication of KFD. CASE PRESENTATION: A 31-year-old Asian female was diagnosed with KFD via excisional biopsy of a posterior cervical lymph node. Four days after the biopsy, pain and disability occurred in her left arm and shoulder. While Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) suspected compression of the brachial plexus nerves, the ultrasound indicated inflammatory changes consistent with neuritis. Diagnosis was challenging; however, distinguishing between mechanical …

Castleman-Like Lymphadenopathy in a Patient with Mixed Connective Tissue Disease: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Differentiating reactive lymphadenopathies in the context of autoimmune disease from Idiopathic Multicentric Castleman Disease (iMCD) poses … ibodies were, however, inconsistent with iMCD, favouring the diagnosis of a reactive Castleman-like lymphadenitis secondary to MCTD. This report highlights that Castleman-like lymphadenopathy can occur in MCTD, closely mimicking iMCD. Therefore, in patients with autoimmune diseases not explicitly listed among the CDCN exclusion criteria, comprehensive clinicopa …

Kikuchi-Fujimoto Disease Presenting as Refractory Eyelid Lesions Mimicking Chalazia.

Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease is a rare, benign, self-limited inflammatory disorder characterized by necrotizing lymphadenitis. Ocular manifestations are uncommon, and periocular involvement is rare. We report a 16-year-old male with a remote history of biopsy-proven Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease who presented with a 2-year history of recurrent left upper and lower eyelid lesions clinically diagnosed as chalazia. Despite multiple incision and drainage procedures, the lesions recurred and were associated with progressive eyelid thickening and mechanical ptosis. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated dif…

Multiple-site venous thromboembolism in acute toxoplasmosis: report of two cases.

Venous thrombosis triggered by infection (immunothrombosis) is increasingly recognized during viral infections, but it can also occur in bac … imary T. gondii infection, and T. gondii DNA was detected in a lymph node showing Piringer-Kuchinka lymphadenitis. The second case involved an immunocompromised adult with fever, seizures, cerebral infarction, cerebral venous sinus and jugular thrombosis, and splanchnic thrombosis. T. gondii serology confirmed recent infection, and Toxoplasma DNA was retrieved …

[Follicular T-cell lymphoma successfully treated with long-term corticosteroid].

Follicular T-cell lymphoma (FTCL) is a rare disease, recently defined in the revised WHO classification Tumours of Haematopoietic and lymphoid tissues (4th edition). Although angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) and FTCL share similar T follicular helper (TFH) cell immunophenotypes and gene mutations, the clinical course of FTCL is not well characterized. Herein, we report the case of a 91-year-old woman with FTCL, who was successfully treated with corticosteroid. The patient, who had systemic lymphadenopathy and splenomegaly, was first diagnosed with necrotizing lymphadenitis. Re-biopsy …

Hyaline Vascular Type of Castleman Disease: Diagnostic Pitfalls on Cytology and Its Clinical Relevance.

Castleman disease (CD) is an uncommon cause of lymphadenopathy. The role of fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) as a diagnostic modality in this disease is not well established. Cytological features of CD have a considerable overlap with many reactive conditions. It has subtle morphological features; which if overlooked, may miss the diagnosis. A two-year-old girl presented with cervical lymphadenopathy. FNAC of the cervical lymph node showed features of granulomatous lymphadenitis. Excision biopsy revealed the hyaline vascular type of CD. Cytological smears were reviewed carefully and reve…

Novel NCF2 Mutation Causing Chronic Granulomatous Disease.

Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is a rare primary immunodeficiency disorder caused by defects in the NADPH oxidase complex. Mutations in … fects. The two siblings also had variable presentation with one having history of severe pneumonia, lymphadenitis, and recurrent skin abscesses and the other presenting in his 30s with discoid lupus erythematosus and without significant infectious history. We therefore identified a novel pathogenic NCF2 mutation causing diverse and unusual clinical phenotype.

Bartonella henselae is usually not viable in lymph nodes of patients with cat scratch disease.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Bartonella henselae, the agent of cat scratch disease (CSD), appears to be a common organism responsible for lymphadenitis in both adults and children. There is a very low isolation rate for B. henselae from lymph nodes of patients with CSD. Our objective was to evaluate B. henselae viability in a large series of lymph nodes from patients with CSD. From January to November 2016, we analyzed lymph node biopsy samples from patients diagnosed with CSD. We used reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) to detect B. henselae RNA, as well as cultures, histological analys…

Behçet's disease-like syndrome secondary to microbial infection: a case report and review of the literature.

Behçet's disease (BD)-like syndrome is an extremely rare situation occurred after Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection and virus infection. We reported a 45-year-old woman who visited our hospital complaining of swollen left ankle, painful genital ulcer, redness in the left eye and skin rash on lower limbs. The patient had a history of pleural tuberculosis and had received anti-tuberculous therapy for one year. Her left cervical lymph node sample demonstrated tubercle bacilli DNA fragmentation. The diagnosis of tuberculous lymphadenitis and Behçet's disease (BD)-like syndrome were made. This p…

Questing one Brazilian query: reporting 16 cases of Q fever from Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Q fever has been considered non-existing in Brazil where reports of clinical cases still cannot be found. This case-series of 16 patients is a result of a systematic search for such illness by means of clinical and serologic criteria. Serologic testing was performed by the indirect microimmunofluorescence technique using phase I/II C. burnetii antigens. Influenza-like syndrome was the most frequent clinical form (eight cases--50%), followed by pneumonia, FUO (fever of unknown origin), mono-like syndrome (two cases--12.5% each), lymphadenitis (one case--6.3%) and spondylodiscitis associated wit…
